Most important feature of Supercars

It must have had a TV series made about it being a 'Supercar' and saving the world once a week, piloted by marionettes.

I voted sunglass/cupholder....a rearward facing suction camera mount on the hood is important too, in order to snap important looking pictures of the driver....

I'd have to say it is good, if the car is loud (in addition to the vanity mirror features).


This would be a good feature to have, if you don't want to hear the senseless babble from the passenger and or auto enthusiast etc..., who may know more trivial information about the car than you do - and keeps on talking and talking.

I can't really do that, at least, not while being extremely interesting.

I would say the person representing the car is the most important component. After all, there are good and bad cars, and who is shilling, I mean selling it, is probably more important than what they are selling, is it not? I dunno about you, but I'll buy a rotten cabbage if the salesman is in interesting enough. I'll take it a step further and suggest that the proximity of the seller to important and learned people is probably the key factor. I want to know that my salesman is interesting enough to wave to Mario Andretti as they pass on the road. Not only does this boost my ego by 3rd-hand association, it also infinitely adds to the knowledge of the seller.

I remember at Monza last year, I shouted out to Ross Brawn as he walked past. He turned and smiled, and I instantly had a working understanding of F1 aerodynamics.

As for name dropping... it's lame. "I have no need to drop names to make my point". That's what I told Jay Leno the other day when he called me seeking car knowledge.

A combination of styling and performance figures

 

I reckon its a combo of speed, acceleration and styling.

But, as you can only vote for one..........I voted top speed.

No one wants a Supercar that only does 200 mph.

 

It's a combination of the top three, everything else is just rediculous.

I subscribe to the above theory that noone wants a supercar that can do 'only' 200mph, they always want more, so it's top speed I'd say.

Besides, there are cars like the Ariel Atom that accelerate just as quick as most if not all supercars and aren't supercars themselves.

 

I remember Ross telling me-"Gee, Mike is interesting" that day at lunch.
Dan Gurney and I discussed Jay's superior aerodynamics, a "chin spoiler" as it were. Really helps on the bikes.

 

Where is the *Noise* option?

The construction process and "radicalness" of the design

Nissan GTR, ZR1 don't even qualify as wanna-be supercars. The problem is the guys writing the magazine articles have the mindset of a starbucks employee and generally don't deserve to be qualifying these amazing machines. Now they are "hypercars". -->That is the dumbest word I have ever heard. Especially out of the mouth of a grown up. The murcielago is the closest exotic to a supercar, without being a supercar. CGT is the entry-level supercar. 1 thing for certain, if it is practical it is automatically not a supercar, regardless of all other conditions being met.

CGT is a real supercar, not entry level. SLR probably closest to entry level. Murc exotic but not supercar. Not enough airfoils.

What do you do about what used to be a supercar, but now it's old and slow, some even slower than the entry level exotics, like the F40, 288 GTO, etc.? Most of those were pretty good in their day, now about all they are good for is getting money out of people who want to live in the past. Maybe we need a new category: supercars beyond their prime?

What is the difference between a ZR1 and a CGT, Enzo, etc ? performance numbers are so close to be meaningless. So it must be something else...

Styling ? Price ? Heritage ? Quality of materials ?

because if performance were the qualifier the ZR1 would be a supercar right ???

... and don't get me started on what a dog the 250 Goat is. For the same money I could have a Pep Boys franchise, the strip mall it sits in, and it'd only take a fraction of the nifty doo-dads inside to make my Schwinn smoke that "Old and Slow" rig like the fossil it is! Then I'd drop some of the $ left over on a spankin' new 430. Stick or F1, many might ask? There'd be enough spare change to bypass that ultimate windbreaker dilemma and score both - then a Z06 could put me on the trailer twice ...
