I knocked off work early on Friday to take my wife shopping and to take in a movie at a popular " Life-style " shopping center here in Pittsburgh. After the movie we had to walk past where we parked and of coarse there was a small crowd gathered at my car - or so I thought. Parked next to my 328 was a new black Cammaro ss. I've never seen one before and I havn't decided if I like the ss but it sure was a menacing looking car. I almost felt slighted when a kid around ten years old ran past my car to take a picture of the Cammaro. :).

I'm embarrassed for the kid. Did he have a mullet? If you get that excited over a Camaro....you're probably Waffle House management material.

I can vouch for the allure of the Camaro to the masses. I was suppose to sell my 69 Camaro to buy the fcar, of course I've been so busy with fcar I've failed in the selling of the Camaro. Whenever I have the garage open & someone comes to the house for the first time they hardly notice the 308 & start going crazy over the Camaro. Go figure.

Come on fellas, for those of us living in the USA the Camaro is practically a Constitutional cultural corner stone. And, the new design is certainly striking and attractive in its own way. I just wish the build quality and the ride/handling was a little more refined (like our ferraris....)

...like our ferraris..... best joke of the year! Almost as good as the quote in Road & Track on the arrival of the Mondial...'at last a Ferrari built to Porsche standards' still laughing 28 years on :)

My kids would ride in/buy one of the new Dodge Challengers way before they would bother with a Ferrari...;)

I personally don't care much for any of the "new" versions of the classic muscle cars; the new ones seem bulky in comparison. I thought the new mustang looked OK until I saw one next to an old 65 fastback. The new one looks like a truck in comparison and to me the new Challenger and Camaro have that same look in comparison to the originals.

My kids are the same way. I was at a show 2 weeks ago, a 'new' Challenger was in the Mopar section, parked right next to an original, both orange. The new one looked like a Fun House mirror reflection of the other, stretched in every dimension.

I'll concede that, though bloated, the car does look pretty good on its big wheels with a nice stance. (I'd forgotten how the originals had such undersized wheels and tires.) To my eye, the Camaro is not quite as successful though I truly hope they sell a zillion of them. Long live the musclecar.

Nothing against American Muscle cars and I sure wish I had had the hindsight to buy one or two back when they were 'inexpensive'. But just like movies and albums, the remakes are usually pale in comparison. Gawd I'd love to have Eleanor sitting next to my F-car.

If I was going to have an americal muscle car, it would be the '66 - '68 mustang fastbacks, a great looking car. I would have the Crager "S/S" mag wheels instead of thoses in the picture.

I test drove a new Hemi Charger Datona RT and because it was too expensive and did not drive right bought the Ferrari Mondial 8 off ebay lol--Charger and Challenger is on same platform is tooo woooobbllly in the turns. Nose dives in quick cut. The Challenger does have the advantage over the Charger in being 2 door and manual trany available.

I say the Ferrari is my used subcompact I bought because they wanted too much for a new Dodge--lol ;-)

I figure the Ferrari is 1/2 the out of pocket per month, including parts payment taxes and insurance, that the Dodge woulda been and has alot more WOW factor. Not to mention that the Dodge would have already depreciated more than I paid for the Mondial 8 that has not depreciated.

That said the Ferrari and Bertone X 1/9s in the fleet are now kissing cousins to the Dodge trucks, Jeep, and 60's Chryslers in the fleet due to Fiat buying Chrysler. For many years I have gone to Fiat group for small cars and sports cars and Chrysler for big cars and trucks. Can they come up with a medium to large car that will do straight line like a 440 Chrysler, low speed quick responsiveness of an X 1/9, and high speed drivability of the Ferrari? Preferably at a fiat price point.

I still need a rain car vs driving the Dodge truck.

    Hi,

I'm not following you. I'm suggesting that the build quality and the ride and handling of the Camaro (and most other American cars) are not up to the same levels as Ferrari. Not so?

Porsche builds amazingly well engineered and built cars. At the time the Mondial was introduced, a 911, for example, was a much better built and engineered car than the Mondial. I guess I don't understand what's off about the R&T quote.....?

    Thanks.

It depends...............I've got a '78 911SC Porsche that drives like a tractor in comparison to my 308............but it's still fun to drive and also has a timeless look like my 308. I refer to my F-car and my P-car as 'the lady and the tramp'. Neither of them are up to today's standards, speeds and amenities, but they're both a blast to drive and their appearance will never grow old.......Unlike a mullet or a Waffle House Manager............that response still cracks me up!

I really like the looks of the new Camaro and look forward to renting one this summer on my next business trip. I think the 308 is a timeless beauty but the original 67-69 Camaro is also a timeless classic. The guy who called the new Camaro "Menacing" definitely labeled that car with the right adjective.

I thought the Camaro looked good in black. It's seems to me that truly beautifull cars look right in almost any color ; almost any ferrari ,for instance. The Camaro, on the other hand, dosen't do it for me in red or yellow. The one I saw looked like the "whole can of whoop ass". It also struck me as a very large car - maybe just because it was next to mine.

Ah, I see, think I'm following you. Well, in the build quality and engineering department you can be sure that Porsche would have never let a car leave the factory in the 70's or 80's with an electrical system as bad as the Mondial, for example. And, there are loads of 200,000+ mile 911SC's that have never had the engine apart (and some w/o ever having had the engine out!) but you'd be hard pressed to get an 80's ferrari past 100,000 miles without a major rebuild, or at least a valve job. And in the ride and handling department, my '83 911SC drives much better than either of my low mileage (and well maintained) '88 Mondial or '82 308gtsi - just my personal experience. I guess individual cars can vary substantially...? Anyway, variety is the spice of life and I love all the differences and distinctions and different natures of these cars (Camaro excepted of course).
