The shape of the air intake holes are of very questionable shape on my "L" series, as you can ascertain,
since a lot of botched surgery was performed by a variety of body expert wannabees.
The whole assembly was a horrid patchwork.
The solution is on hold, as I cannot find a reference. I can shape both sides in the metal, as they are formed,
unevenly, but at this point easier than leading.
Jon Hansen's photos (on my resto thread), show the streamlining on the outside, but none on the inside of the body, thus possibly indicating leading?
I would appreciate if my Dino friends could help me with close as possible photos of the intake holes.
If anyone has them of "E" and "M" series, I would like to see them also.
Dimensions, as kindly offered by Jon, would be very beneficial.
Are they streamlined in the metal or are they leaded? How are they attached to the nose?
Are seams visible anywhere inside the holes? The chicken wire is held by thin sheet metal bands, is that correct?
I need to get this issue taken care of, as I have to get the nose back on...
    Thanks for the great help.

Alberto, The air intakes that you depict conform to the type seen on late "E" series Dinos, not the "L." My earlier Dino (03964- June, 1972) has the earlier rectangular front pan air intakes. My later Dino (04808--October, 1972) has the intakes that appear on your car. Search out photos of the front of early model Dinos and you will see the difference, both in the side air intakes and the under-grille opening (which came fitted with a vertically-divided metal air intake that covered the larger pan opening under the grille). The grille itself on the later "E" Dinos is more rectangular in shape. Fred

    Ciao Alberto,
I went down to my garage and took a few pictures for you. That is the shape a L-Series front must be! If the pictures are not good enough for your needs, if you want tomorrow I can do better ones by daylight. (please let me know)

Thank you, Götz, I appreciate your photo, and it looks like I have the wrong set-up.
Please do send more photos, as I need all the help I can get...
Are the intakes made out of fiberglass? My number is quite high in the "L"s, #1104,
could it be possible mine had the next version? I hate to go and cut up something that
    might be right. Regards, Alberto

    Hello Alberto,

even all M-serie and the frist approx. 1000 E-serie Dino`s had the front shown on Götz`s pictures.
If you want an original car, you need this front.
Surely, Götz can send you more detailed pictures.
    Regards Matthias

Götz , thank you for the help!
I see I have a lot of metal to reshape... Not a problem.
    My e-mail is: [email protected]
What is the purpose of the removable panel? What kind of fasteners does it use?
I appreciate the photos in advance
    Best, Alberto

    Ciao Alberto,

I have just sent you the pictures by mail, please check your inbox.

The removable panel is to regulate the air intake,
(normal enviromental temerature = less air intake needed = panel on the car / high enviromental temerature = more air intake needed = panel off)
and i makes it much easier to work on the cooling vents if necessary.

The panel is fixed by four clips (reveted on the panel) and two screws.

    Best Regards

    Götz

    Hello Götz

Thank you for the photos. Now I know where to go!
It looks like the front apron is a continuous piece without the center cutout that I have in my nose?
Does water accumulate in there? I think I will cut out the entire portion with the round intakes
and make a whole new section. what do you think? Are all the cuts smooth or do they have
    a slight lip?
Thank you again for your most kind help. It makes all the difference...

    Best,

    Alberto
PS As far as the extra panel, I shall make one, but I do not think I will need it, as in El Salvador, It is always hot!

    You are wellcome Alberto,

as it never rains in Germany, I don't know about the accumulation of water. ;o)
...unfortunately I am joking, unlike you, I never need to take off the extra panel here in Germany. But no problems with water there, it runs out easily.

Yes I think so Alberto, the round intakes have to come off for the right shape of your L-Series!!!

The cuts are all bent to the outside a little, but I think that is only caused by the way of using the tin shears 40 years ago (maybe 5 minutes before end of the work day in Scaglietti factory).

    Regards

    Götz

Thanks UroTrash, I guess that yours is a late version? Because if it is, someone got the underside of a latter and installed it on mine????
Not to mention that it was done horribly. Back to the drawing board, no?

    Ciao Kevin,

your car on the pictures is an E-Series/3rd-Series car. The production of the E-Series started from #02132 in 1971.
    M-Series/2nd-Series was only made in 1971 (#01118-02130)!
Albertos car (#01104) is definitely a L-Series/1st-Series Dino!

    Gotz,
You are quite right, no idea why I said otherwise. Thanks for the correction.
