if i was the guy who bought the 599 i would have been laughing my head off at the dude who just spent similar dollars on the merc. To each their own though
Yes (*red face*) ooops was thinking of MHH's car. Didn't think the 2 seater was that expensive new yet alone second hand.
Sorry to nitpick here old chap, but I prefer to help you maintain your Bentley expertise. The Bentley Continental and Flying Spur are actually based on the VW Phaeton, a risible attempt by VW to take on Mercedes. It is mercifully not sold in Australia and has been a complete flop in Europe. It has a steel body but otherwise uses the running gear of the Audi A8. Why a company that owns Audi would build a car that cannibilises A8 sales is something that beggars belief and perhaps indicates the out of control ego of Ferdinand Piech. It would have been more logical and technically superior if they'd used the aluminium structure of the A8 for the modern Bentleys, but VW had built a shiny new factory for the Phaeton and not much for it to do, so the beanies made the decision. The Flying Spur is built in Germany too, I think they trim it in the UK but that's all. Its also a sales flop. I see them in the streets of London, already looking dated and unloved. Its a badly proportioned design, unlike the A8, which is for me the best looking large sedan in the world. btw walking past the Bentley showroom in Berkely Square last week, I noted a new Veyron on the floor, with an "immediate delivery" sign on it. Things are getting desperate - can you imagine the massive depreciation Veyrons will suffer? They also had a Bentley Arnage coupe thingy, which has now been sitting there for three months, a handsome car but no demand in the current market.
Must admit I show interest in those cars,my brother inlaw had the 1st VW Continental in Australia, shocking thing. IMO they have a hide calling the VW cars after some of the great names of the past weither it be pre or post 1931. Those Spur things wholesale down here are about 125k.If you can find a buyer. The Arnage coupe is a Brooklands? Over priced and also a sales flop. Like anynew prestige car after 18 months worth half their retail new price.
I'm on this board too. Feel free to ask. Doesn't really matter whether there were bids or not (there were), but I had a price I wanted to sell it for (Pickles reserve was higher than my bottom price) and it didn't reach that. I wasn't a forced seller, so decided to keep it for now. The market has been very difficult to get a real sense of what the car will sell for. Offers have not changed at all in the last 9 months since I last tried to sell. Other sales of similar cars make me think that mine is either worth lots more or lots less than I want..... so who knows....?? I will be moving to the US in a few months, so will need to sell it at some point though.
haha, hey mate, yeah i didnt want to pry, as you say the market is hard to pick. I sold my car for quite a good price (i have no idea how), yet some cars are being handed away for really low (i.e. that Audi R8 for $130k). as with anything as soon as the right buyer comes along it will attain a good price, and yours being a manual will definately be the right car for an enthusiast. but i really thought the market wouldve been around $210k for a 360S these days. good luck with it though, and have a blast in the US, i'd love to live there.
