The approach is normal (if you can call it that) for that airport but touching down that late on a short strip like that was STUPID.
He had the reversers on hard, the brakes on hard and the nose was buried all the way into the turn.
If I was a passenger I would have punched the pilot in the face on the way out.

    Talk about pucker factor.

Used up the all the runway and most of the airplane. Where's the old axiom of down on the first third or less or go around? That one was scary!.

Here's what it's SUPPOSED to look like:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_z5HtME9n8

Same approach, much different results. If you search on Youtube
there are a lot of vids of this crazy airport in Tegucigalpa - obviously
not built for the jet age but still being used. Remind me NOT to
    go there!

I'm sorry - I don't mean to be obsessing, but this airport has been a fave of mine
to watch videos of because of the insanity of it. Here's another video showing
the view from the cockpit - a bit longer, but you get the 'left seat view' with cockpit audio.
I have this airport in FSX and have never once even come close to not killing everyone
on board :) I LOVE the audio bit at the end "That's not fun - I don't like this one"!!!

Sadly, yes... TACA flight 390 - an Airbus A320-233 in May of 2008...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaqvJjB8Ceg

No video of the actual crash, but a devoted FSX guy like me recreated
the flight from San Salvador with pix of the outcome at the very end...
ya gotta watch the whole FSX simulation first.... this was a devoted
effort to recreate the actual event lacking real video.

I'm sure there have been others, but this is the only video I know of...

From what I understand, the aircraft N501US is a former US Air 737-300 that is now chartered for flights to return illegal aliens to there home country. So I am sure a lot of the passengers want to punch out someone. The A/C is based out of Williams Gateway in Mesa, AZ and uses the Call Sign Partiot501.

For any of you with airliner time, I notice not much use of wing low in crosswinds like we used in the F-111 and other fighters. The wing low really helped with ground track control without so much rudder being needed. Any reason for that, besides not scaring the passengers?

Terry, I'm not an airline pilot but from working on things like the 777 and all that went before it, there is a concern for overloading one truck and oleo with all of the drag loads and especially side loads on a crabbed landing. Braking is an important concern also ...get all the wheels on the runway and kill the wing lift soonest and get the brakes working. I'm sure that the airline pilot guys will have better answers but this is what I recall.

Seems like a simple case of coming in way to fast and therefore unstabilized.

You could here the engines spooling up as he turns to short-final, and presumably all of that speed remains (or is increased) during the steep descent to the threshold.

He floated half-way down the runway trying to bleed up off the speed and you could see him pushing the nose down a couple of times to try to get it to settle before it finally does.

Once the first third of the runway was gone, I think it was a poor decision by the pilot not to execute a go-around.

Amazing how corporate / commercial pilots seemingly make the same poor decisions that plague GA pilots.

That, to me, is the most amazing part. I always bank on knowing the pilot has every
intention of staying alive himself - landings like this really tax that notion...

Oh yes! That crosswind landing in the 747 I've watched many times.

But in light of the OP, at least Kai Tek has severe cross wind issues that must be dealt with,
and most of the vids are just professionals doing their job properly (RUDDER!!! I NEED MORE F******
RUDDER!!!!) rather than the utter stupid choice made in Honduras...

I just have a weird fascination for aviation vids of extreme maneuvers....

Kai Tek also had the sharp right hander at the checkerboard on the hill, THEN they descended into the crosswind.
One of the videos shows #1 engine smacking the asphalt on touchdown. Just nuts!
    Good thing it's closed now.
