I always wanted to take photos like this, so am pretty pleased that its going to happen, but then it struck me..who is going to take me when I am holding a D700? LOL
My other half has a crappy Olympus compact camera, cannot make it like below..so I came up with a solution..I buy her a 500D with a nice L lens!
So she can use that to take me! :D So hunsome

Now shopping for two bodies hee hee

Love your pics! Were you in a robinson? Was reading up the 500D on dpreview, seems like JPEGs are fine but Raw is not..does anyone know any good compact cameras? Thinking of G10 as she is quite reluctant to carry camera gear up a mountain :( Thinking maybe the Panasonics with Leica lens might be good?

Nope, seldom appear in robinson. Of course she is reluctant to carry camera gear up a mountain, unless you are carrying :D

I was reading about the D60, D5000, thought it was quite cheap for an SLR but after reading abt it realised that they save on cost by not having a built in auto focus motor? What does that mean?

Dude, thought u're getting a tripod? And there's a thing call self-timer or IR trigger. Since u love hiking, go buy a GPS kit as well to tag your photos.

Don't be a goon with the Canon, just buy another D90 & you can both share lenses (yes, only the D90 onwards have a built-in motor+ HD video). Otherwise, get her an "idiot" PNS camera like Lumix/Sony/Canon etc that takes pretty good pics. G10 is an overkill for someone who doesn't know in-depth about photography. Btw, I have a G9 which sucks battery big time :( & used it less than 5 times.

Do you even edit pics in Raw??? Do you have the software to do it? Jpegs are more than enuf for most folks, even wedding photographers.

OMG thats a sweet camera! Haizz you can easily afford the "L" Lens series, so as long as you stick to the Ls no worries for pictures!

Hmmm I asked around $3,500 cash for the body only and S$5,200 with the kit with F4 L lens. (CC add 2-3%)

But I also found out the HD video can only take a certain amount of time before you have to start and stop to continue (doesnt matter how big your CF card is)..hope that helps :)

32GB cards can be found at Cathay Photo for 200+

I am looking at a complete set, including GPS the nikon GPS not bad price about $250+ for the GP-1. The Canon price for GPS is crazy as you have to buy the wireless grip $1000+ and on top of that run a wire to the external GPS like garmin etc siao.. D90 abit ex lei for her $1600 for kit? I rarely use raw, only raw for love :D I being reading alot about Panasonic PNS seems like the build quality is really good, all metal and Leica lens....

    So my shopping list is

    D700 body
    24-70 2.8
    Grip
    Extra batt x 2
    B+W 77mm polarizer
    Hand strap
    SB900
Gitzo 1540T tripod (2 or more days hike)
Gitzo 6X 2000Series Monopod (day trips)
    Gitzo Ballhead?
Gitzo holster for Monopod (looks cool mah)
    Gitzo Bag fo tripod
Gitzo outdoor jacket (this one is damn steam LOL)

and since this all cost money and I karang guni, i need to collect more empty bottles and newspapers :(

    Trivia

I found out that one can actually use the D3X batteries in the D700 grip but you have to change the battery cover. With the D700 original batt + the D3 bigger capacity batt you can take up to 2900 pictures between charge.. only catch is

D3 batts cost about S$170 abt double the price for the D700 batts and you have to buy separate charger for the D3 batts another S$170...bummer

But when it revved, WOW I WET MYSELF!

And that is the Pagani Factory? Wow looked like any backstreet. Didn't expect that really.
