Consistent with my weight figures. The Scuderia can use 5 gallons of fuel in just 50 miles (more fuel indeed, overrated at 11mpg) at 6.28 lba/gal that would increase the weight to 3,160 lbs with a full tank.
I'm working on the F40, F50, 288GTO and Scuderia now. I know a local person that has all of these cars, but he's out of town for a few weeks. So if there's anyone else in Southern California who has these cars, please PM me. I'll pay to fill it up, lunch, or dinner, whichever the owner prefers. Or a ride in one of my cars if they prefer that.
Bill the GT3 RS weight is a bit off. With the gauge where it sits, that car is missing close to 4 gallons of fuel, 25 lbs should be added, to an empty weight of 3,099 lbs and a full tank weight of 3,210 lbs. I have the weight of over a dozen of 997 GT3 and GT3 RS (including my former RS weighed multiple times). Base car no options: 3,141 lbs, with PCCB 3,099 lbs, both figures with no fuel. At one event my RS weighed close to 3,300 lbs on the POC digital scales.
Good eyes! I wondered if someone would see that. Actually, the tank is completely full (I filled it to overflowing). The gauge is broken and has been reading low for a few weeks now. This 997 GT3 RS has the options shown here... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fascinating project. I find it interesting that the weights on all these cars are pretty close. Is the technology limited? Maybe all the safety rules affect a car more than anything else?
My guess is technology is keeping the weight down with the increased vehicle size, comfort, and safety requirements. Increased rigidity (desirable) is also adding to the weight. But Ferrari is doing remarkably well with their all-aluminum body work on the standard cars. Porsche is now only doing aluminum on the front hood and doors. We'll know more when we weigh the older cars (288GTO, F40, F50).
Bill see if Jeffry is in town, he has a F40. If you can't find ANYONE in CA let me know and I might bring mine from AZ there on the way to Concorso or something.
Bill, thanks for the thread. I used to think that +/- 3200 lbs. for a supercar was slightly disappointing, and to some extent I still do and would like to see manufacturers strive to dip them well below the 3000 lb. mark (like what Jim did with the P 4/5). But then I Googled the dimensions of both the Stradale and the Enzo and realized what a pretty impressive achievement the Enzo's weight really is. It's ten inches longer, five inches wider, and only two inches shorter than its sister and yet it weighs only 160 lbs. more. It also has four extra cylinders and the accompanying elements necessary to keep the extra heat reigned in... Quite remarkable. I guess carbon fiber goes quite a long way...
Great thread! Would be interested to see if Gordon Murray's claims of his F1 "weighing no more than a Golf" are true. Also, does the Zonda S really come in at only 2700 lbs, or is that a Ferrari-like claim of dry weight only?
Yes, the Enzo's light weight is almost unbelievable for its size. But I'm not sure the next Ferrari super car could be much smaller and still maintain the performance, comfort and looks people expect from a Ferrari super car. So I suppose we'll see new lightweight materials for the body, engine, chassis and suspension. Maybe something stronger and lighter than carbon fiber that can be used in all of these areas.
Thanks so much for the generous offer. I think I'll find a stock US F40 before then (if Jeffry Tipo815?). But if not, I hope we can meet up. BTW, can you tell me what your Owner's Manual says for the F40 fuel tank capacity?
Jeffrey has both the F40 and F50 which would knock 2 off of your list if he would want to have them weighed.
Bill Hope this helps! DM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
While we did have fuel in her on the PF scales in the wind tunnel we weren't full so I'd say about 400lbs lighter. We have engineered a CF front sub frame that we'll be fitting at some point which we think will take even more weight out.
The factory had previously published these dry weights in promotional progaganda while marketing the following two cars: Challenge Stradale: 2822 lbs; and Enzo: 3010 lbs. Note, of course, that this is without any liquid in any reservoir or cylinder or case. I do not remember seeing any claim about the Scuderia, although it is likely the factory published one during its advertising campaign.

DM, thanks so much from scanning and posting those F40 Owner's Manual pages. That gives me a good starting point for when I weigh an F40: F40 OWNER'S MANUAL: Curb Weight (empty): 2,980 lbs Fuel Tank: 31.7 gallons (main + reserve)
By the way, Check out Max speed on the F40 at 171 MPH. Wasn't the F40 the first street car to 200+ MPH stock?
It sure was, I remember reading a thread about how many mistakes were in the US owners manual. I mean look at the 0-60 time LOL....
Here's a summary so far. Note how close the calculated weight without fuel matches what's published in the Owner's Manual: Image Unavailable, Please Login
So I want to know who gets the privilege of doing the in-between process involved in going from a full tank of gas to an empty tank. And would also love to volunteer my services in your noble endeavor.
