    His kits are very nice, but he is more of an artist than engineer.
    The Profil 24 kits bodies sometimes capture the look of the cars better than even Hiro, but they are not nearly as good at engineering.


    The SCUD 16M is a transkit.

    Looks nice. I hope MG did a good job on the body!! I dont want to spend a 100 hours correcting it like on my last MG kit!! I wonder if they will do any other versions?

    Does "challenging" means bad quality or warped/broken parts? ...or just a challenge to build a complex model ;)

    Mg's are pretty rough..
    I like a challenge, but builders without experience should be aware!

    My next project is a 250TR from which the front of the chassis needs to be corrected, wheels are in the headlight-area.
    Engine is in the right position, so the frame needs adjustment in front of the engine, and behind the suspension-mounts.

    I also have a 166MM which needs lots of ajustment, panels don't fit.


    Ton, I followed the progress on your F40, great work, and you shouldn't have a problem building an MG..

    This might be a novice question as i have only been building around a year but why do some of these really expensive kits have so many problems? Should they not be perfect when i can get a Tamiya kit for £20 that fits together perfectly ?

    Resin kits will never be perfect...and they are mostly made for the advanced modeler.

    Also they are in many cases one man operations who are not using CAD design equipment and other prototyping machinery.

    Price does not equal quality.

    Thanks. So basically they are limited run models using different materials to people like Tamiya and producing cars that are not so 'mainstream'.

    I really like the look of the MFH FW16 but its a lot of money and i know i have no way near the skill level required to build it. Ill stick with my Fujimis and Tamiyas for now :)

    Bedankt Hans ...so it is matter of dry-fitting, sanding, filling, sanding, dry-fitting, sanding, filling, sanding ...I see :) I ordered the 250TR 1957 engine this afternoon as a kind of test run for this manufacturer. And the TR is on wish list too...great model.

    The F40 is almost finished..I guess a couple of weeks and than I am ready after 600+ hours and 16 month building and than this beauty will get a place in my "hall of fame" (very small one :) )

    That F40 is so nice!!

    On the MG kits, you might have to modify and reshape the body panels if you want to make it perfect. They are rather simple models, but become complicated due to the inaccuracy. Hiro kits are much better quality than MG kits(Not even on the same page), although they do make alot of small mistakes.

    Just a quick note for a specialist, tom, I just discovered that the Piper LM at Le Mans 1967 had different numbers on pilot and passenger doors, did you know it ?
    look at this picture (sorry for bad quality) bu the 21 from the pilot door is surrounded by a green line...

    Hi Phil,

    I had seen another shot from a different angle showing the different
    number on Car 21 from Lemans 1968. Was that from this French Lemans Ferrari book that I just ordered?? The first volume had some great color photos.

    Yes, it comes from this book. You will like it. I'm pleased by both volumes as the text (in french...) in quite good, giving some funny little stories and in addition, probably the most important, I think that more than 80% of the pictures were not published in other books before !

    Here are some rare 1/18th scale kits. Not to many people build 1/18th since it is mainly a diecast built scale.

    MG 250MM 1/18th kit

    MG 350 P4 1/18th kit

    S.M. Model Art 412I 1/18th kit

    The quality is more toy like than model kit, although they do include nice photoetch that includes
    window frames. I wish Model Factory Hiro would include (BBR style) window frames in their kits.

    I just finished the Tecnomodel 250 Sperimentale...I must say I'm not a fan of photo etch window frames. The metal look is fine but most frames are not dead flat like that so for realism sake they miss the mark.

    Thats true, but you can bend the frames so they will not be flat around
    the curves. They don't have a better way to do frames in .. kits ..(bare metal foil looks like crap compared to photoetch frames).

    One thing I will say, nickel works much better than stainless steel on photoetch as nickel can be bent without much trouble.

    I don't think either one is ideal...but well done BMF is not that bad...both are a compromise.


    There are a lot of photo etch parts that fail because they aren't 3D enough, window frames fall into that category in most cases.

    Thats true unless its a racing car model like the P4 wich only had flat sheet layed on a fragile door frame to hold the window in. What I like about photoetch is the crispness of the metal edge and also the clear glass installation with plastic sheet. The bare metal foil applications look more sloppy 99% of the time compared to the photoetch unless the modeler messed up the glass on the photoetch window. Your 250GT model has some of the best window frames around in a kit. The only thing I think they could have done was have it fold over to make 3D, but then the glass installation would have been very hard to intall. Good points dino scuderia.

    Alex, I hope you come to the Ferrari Expo 2010 so that I can show you why
    I dont agree with you 100% on this. Bare metal foil can look good if done well. Also some frames are black and photo etch looks good on them also.
