North NJ Craigslist - I just saw this last night. Depending on what's needed, but with a few $ of the decently low price there might be a solid deal 4 someone. Looks Euro as well. (Not affiliated in any way, just simply forwarding).

Hmm ... need more garage room!!

Please don't post this!!! Ok - I am just kidding... :)

I have inquired about this one - awaiting a reply. If anyone knows of the owner - let me know, I am in NJ and highly interested.

I expect it needs a major, but at that price, I am going to try for it - if they get back to me.... :(

I actually e-mailed them a couple weeks back when the car was originally listed for $25k obo. Didn't hear anything back so I assumed that it had been sold. Now it is back on craigslist for $20k? Huh?

Yes, I hear you - sounds to me like they aren't looking at email or it's not legit.

Personally, I can't get clody vision - I've wanted a nice 308 for awhile, but the price is awfully low IMHO. Let's see what happens...

If the car is legit, if it is basically sound, etc., etc. At that price going +15K for major service and assorted proper corrections would still be fair for the buyer, IMHO.

The ad states exterior flaws, plural, which could mean dents, cracked paint....etc. Expensive to repair! The car plus $15K puts you at $35K before addressing the exterior issues. One reallly needs to inspect the car before speculating and getting your hopes too high. $35 - $40K can get you a rather decent QV in this market at definitley half the mileage of this car. If you like boxer paint Forza in CT has a nice one.

Yes, I am aware, but thanks for that. I've seen the Forza car, but honestly, I hate the Boxer trim.

why is the $15K added to the car - a good proper major is not even close to the figure??

$15K for major and assorted proper corrections. A QV with 82K miles, unless precently done(probably not), will most likely need a whole host of issues to be addressed ie: shift shaft seals, steering rack, suspension bushings, to start with. With a proper major costing around $6K just the 3 realistic need repairs will cost well over another $6K not to mention all the while we're at it concerns. It all adds up very quickly. No way to buy a cheap Ferrari....just my $.02

Here was their response when I also enquired about it in May:

It needs some work on the exterior and I would think some minor work on the engine. I'm not sure. I really don't know much about cars, nevertheless, Ferraris.

If you are interested, please let me know.

I have a phone number is anyone is interested. I didn't call yet....

Given the price this could be a real solid buy for someone especially as the description and vague information scares away most buyers. A knowledgable buyer who is willing to take the time to see the car could make out very well. Too bad that most are too lazy or easily discouraged to follow through. I actually thought the description offered by the seller was very honest and an open invite to maybe make a deal. Not a crazy deal but maybe this car is better than described. Hard to say as no one here has seen it yet most act like experts on it.

    Buy that car!

With 82k miles, it has probably had most of the "issues" driven out of it. I would buy the thing without a PPI for $20k. Seriously, it is a $20k car. Records are almost WORTHLESS to have IMO. The only one that is important is the most recent service, if they have it. If not, assume you will be doing one. That still puts the car at $25k for an '85 with a FRESH major.

No way is this car going to need 15k in work. No way.

Look at the thing. It is a shiny, '85, ONE OWNER, 308 with 82k miles that lives in a clean garage. Look at that car cover! You think that is a "beater" Ferrari under there? Let's not forget that it is a $20k nice looking 308.

You MAY need a major for $5k. That still puts you at $25k with a car you can drive the heck out of for the next 5+ years with minimal maintanance.

Heck, I would first get that car in my garage as quickly as I could and then start calling the service places around the guy's Zip code. I am assuming that, if the guy owned it for 24 years, people around the scene there KNOW the guy AND know the car. I am guessing he has been taking to the same mechanic for the entire life of the car. Maybe two mechanics. I;ll bet Grandma knows. Either way, there is a trail somewhere. Buy the car ASAP and then start searching to see what you can find. If you try to start doing your search first, someone like me will be driving the car before you find out where it was even serviced.

I can't tell you how many guys I know that have suffered from Analysis Paralysis and ended up always kicking themselves about the "one that got away". If you are a true car fan, that feeling/memory will knaw at you till the day you die. A lot longer than any lemon.

With the lemon, at least you get to go to the grave knowing "what might have been" instead of wondering.

I just don't get the logic: needs a major plus extras and you can get a good one for $X so run away...... Fact is, most of those other "good ones" have a bunch of issues and deferred maintenance too. And, there's a chance the car is in OK shape anyway as-is. Whenever I've gone to look at a supposedly "no issues" or "perfect" 25 year old ferrari, what I generally find is an owner who doesn't wrench themselves and who has written a bunch of checks to mechanics thereby assuming his car is now "perfect." No, it's not. Just because you wrote a bunch of checks doesn't mean your car is perfect. It just means that it's really expensive to own a ferrari and have somebody else work on it if you can't do it yourself....
