I'm not sure but I think he owns 2 or 3 of them. One being a street another a real LM that he paid 4 million for sometime ago. I'm sure there worth a hell of alot more now being a real LM. The third car I'm not sure if it's true or not. But he does have at least 2 of them.

Your top pic is LM3, which is now Ralph Laurens car. Your 2nd pic is another of 008R, the subject of the post above this one

You know what I find interesting? Repainting an 288GTO/F40/F50/Enzo generally has a negative affect on the perception of the car in question, but McLaren owners are free to add body-kits, repaint the exterior, redo the interior, etc, and it's not frowned upon in the least.

McLaren do all the work themselves and when you buy the car its an option (not free, of course) to do whatever you want to it. There's a car in Germany that recently had its high downforce kit removed at the request of its new owner.

They essentially deliver a brand new car to you

Thats about right depending on what you want. They really will do anything for you (including R&D for new ideas). Numerous cars have been updated with cell phone mounts and GPS as the technology of the times changes.

They'll also color match any colour you want. People have had cars matched to watches and even a customer's wifes trousers that she was wearing that day (no joke)

But Ferrari has a classiche program, and odds are that if I bought an F40 and sent it to them to add cell phone mounts and color-match my girlfriend's panties, it would be considered a 'story' vehicle and the value would be diminished. Obviously this is an extremely far-fetched but I'm sure you understand the point I'm trying to make.

Regardless, I think the McLaren F1 is the greatest vehicle ever made, and the fact that it's over a decade old and still extremely relevant today both in terms of performance and aesthetics speaks volumes on the engineering that went into creating the car.

The one thing about this car that I never understood was the rediculous roll this thing has when driven hard... In some cases in the following review by Tiff for Top Gear, the car really does seem to nearly get a wheel off the ground under a hard change of direction.

Check out 7:50 in the video and it just looks a bit crazy to me. Journalists did say the car was difficult to handle.

I completely understand the point you're trying to make but you're comparing apples to oranges. You can't even compare ferrari vs. mclaren treatment. For examples like the F40, that only "officially" came in red, yes, it would be a story car (classiche also wouldn't repaint it for you anyway since they restore cars). McLaren pride themselves on the service they give owners. This is an extremely limited production car unlike the F40 where only 1200 (ish) were made. They help you through the buying process and then, if you wish, change the car to suit you. All cars were customized at the begining and they just continue this trend now. Its not a "story" car because all stories are wiped clean when the new owner takes delivery. They really do deliver a brand new car to you.

I love the fact that the racer has the shipping wheel nuts on it! You would normally only see those as the car is coming out of or about to be put in to a transporter.

Bar none, the most incredible car ever made. Perfect.

LM3 is my dream car. Discovery Channel had a program about Ralph Lauren's car collection and they had footage of when he took delivery of LM3. I was and still am completely jealous. He seems to appreciate the vehicles he owns.
