The Chromadoras I have look like hell, paint chipped and oxidized, etc,

Can anyone recommend a domestic USA distributor that would have a good selection of wheels that will fit w/o issue?

What is maximum width will fit. Anythign I need to know about backset/offset?

Probably going to go 16" to be able to get good performance tires, yet keep tire height essentially stock, as I don't think much is available in 14", anymore.

    Thanks,
    Doug

I have a set of Gotti's in 16" that I would consider letting go. Drop me a note if interested.

9 or maybe 9.5 is it on the width I think without moving stuff.

Look for 16" QV wheels from an owner who went to third party wheels.
If you are patient you can get a set for between $350-$500 each.
A set would consist of Chromodora magnesium 8" rear and 7" front wheels.
They will take proper modern high speed tires at reasonable prices.

No concerns with offset or fit. But they will not fit into the spare
chamber should one encounter a flat. And the 16" wheel/tires look
on the car so much better than the 14" did.

I got my four at $1200 refinished from a paint shop when the owner didn't
return for 3 years. Somewhere there's a qv running around barefoot.

If you check out Superformance in the UK they have replica 16 inch QV wheels which are very nice. $1,200 shipped to your door anywhere in the US.

Incidentally, your 14 inch wheels with 70 series rubber provide a really comfortable ride. 16 inch wheels with 50 series rubber is going to ride a fair amount harder....

Short answer is "no" there's very limited aftermarket selection, that's why they are recommending the 16" QV replicas...

FULDA still has our 14" tires, in a V rating....

    Refinish your 14"s??????

As noted the stock set up on early cars is (5) 14" x 7.5"

    Later cars with 16" are 16 x 7" front, 16" x 8" rears....and a space saver spare! LOL!

The longer answer is yes if you don’t mind running adapters. Most modern stuff has a lot more offset than a 308 so there is plenty of room to run an adapter and have the wheel end up in exactly the stock location.

I ran aftermarket RX7 wheels for a couple years. 18x8 from and 18x9 rear. They came with a 45, offset so I used 25mm adapters which dropped the offset to 20mm and since the wheels were 25mm wider than stock the outside edge ended up within 1-2mm of stock. You could also order 35mm adapters and put the center of the wheel within 1-2mm of stock. Going this way gives you a pretty nearly unlimited number of wheel options.

I have non-abs 328 wheels on my '79 308GTB and have had no problems since I worked through the grease cap issues.
BY FAR, the cheapest solution will be to have your 308 wheels refinished and mount new rubber.

    Those will certainly work.

I was hoping for a some real nice bright chrome/ black chrome rims, but probably won't find any.

I suppose I could always get my 14's chromed, or just blasted and powder coated, or maybe polished and clear powder coated.

I like the look of the 16" wheel, but do know the ride will suffer.

    Now, onto lug nuts....

Last time I checked, many years ago, about buying new lugnuts, I called up the Ferrari place and asked how much new lugnuts were, as the chrome was chipping off on mine.

    They said $30.

I ask, that is $30 per set of 5, right?

    No, that is $30 each......

I can have new lugnuts made and chromed cheaper than that (run quantity, about 100).

Are there less expensive lugnuts available, or did Ferrari drop their price, or do I need to get my old lugnuts rechromed?

I have the Superformance 16" Mondial wheels on my QV. They're a quality product with average-to-typical silver paint.

Rechrome the lug bolts, Hill Engineering now makes them .....but Ferrari is up to $65.00 each x twenty...ten long ones, ten short ones...:D

Spacers are a solution, but I don't run them.....

Just don't let them go crazy on paint stripping, if they go to a bare casting resealing is required to avoid problems, I've seen beautiful paint jobs with telltale bubbling and crazing where the alloy is rapidly corroding under the fresh finish!

i have splitrims 16"on both the 328 and the 308
    Just because i like them!
(for the qv for other obvious reasons as well)

the 328 is equipped with compomotive in 7 and 8" but with 1" more offset
the 308 comes with gotti's in 7,5 and 8,5"" with 1/2" more offset.

I just love them and about cleaning: just use a soft brush and the bolts are kept clean easily

You are aware the new "bright chrome" on OEM wheels is paint?

They are not bare metal, polished......

It was a thread on the 599 Section...yes, exactly right! Bright Chrome paint!

I noticed Ferrari is pretty metallic red on the last F1 race as well!

Correct. It was that way at the last USF1GP I worked. They changed the paint to look more rossa corsa on the TV, once they no longer had to match Marlboro's vermilion red.

Let me know if you hear of a pair of 8" for $350. My car has 7'' all the way around and want to put the correct wheels on the back. I have seen them for $500 and up, not interested in replica wheels

Silly me, the car came with out a spare, I went to the show at Rutlands and bought one with a tire. While I was putting the tire in it's new home one of the sales staff there tells me my rear wheels are 7's and I should buy a pair of 8's when a pair comes available. I should have had Brian do a PPI....

I will probably sell the wheel I bought that was nicly painted and one of my old rears when I find a pair of 8's
