I noticed this on a box of pop tarts about 10 years ago. "Microwave on High for 3 Seconds". TRY IT. I have a friend with a zillion watt restaurant microwave oven and even THERE the thing is STONE COLD after 3 seconds. But wait.... you must then let it COOL BRIEFLY!!! Try it - go get a pop tart and zap it for 3 seconds - you'll find it utterly cold and untouched! 3 seconds isn't long enough to create even the SLIGHTEST bit of heating! Surely they MEANT to say 30 seconds - but for all these years, the box just keeps getting reprinted with this on it. What this has to do with anything is beyond me Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sometimes 3 seconds does the trick, depends on the level/wattage of microwave, it's easy to handle though. They have to put cool briefly because of the idiots that "burn" themselves and blame the companies for not having a warning. Call Kellogg and ask them why it's 3 seconds and not 5 or something. On the flip side, throw your pop tarts in the fridge. They taste pretty good that way.
If it didn't even get the SLIGHTEST LITTLE BIT WARM in a 4000 watt industrial microwave in a restaurant, MAN - you must have an INSANE microwave! Certainly not one I've ever tried in 10 years of munching pop tarts comes close then
Well, no response to that, or actually here it is: I never follow the rules man...I'm a rebel, I put it in for 10 minutes!!!! You aren't supposed to have a burning hot Pop Tart, just a nice luke warm one
Flaming hot tongue melting cherry-flavored napalm!! The label continues: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Damn, gotta go recalibrate my microwave to make sure it doesn't go over 3 seconds, because at 3.1 seconds, all hell breaks loose.
That's hilarious. Altho I used to keep my cigars in the freezer and then microwave them for 5 seconds before firing up. They were fine but I was naive and now have a humidor. I do microwave cognac the one time a year I have it. Maybe 8 seconds makes it start to weep... Not as sexy as a candle but I've had a hard time dealing with brandy/candle ritual since I lost my hand in that unfortunate champagne/saber incident...
My wife and I have been having fun with this - we have 3 microwaves of pretty serious duty. We took a pop tart ("his favorite flavor, cherry red!") and tested in all three micros. We noticed that the first entire second is just lost - the magnetron and fan used to spread the energy take a full second (in all 3 ovens) to ramp up. Result? Neither she nor I could detect even the slightest hint of 'warm' - she wanted to see this herself because I've ranted about it for years Made a believer out of her. So what did YOU do to completely waste time tonight? Jedi
Heat that thing up for 30 seconds, take a huge bite of it and see how your tongue feels after that nuclear spackle burns a hole through it and your jaw. What's wrong with Pop Tarts? As SRT_Mike once said, "Sometimes you feel like a pop, sometimes you feel like a tart."
I believe I actually said "sometimes you feel like popping, all over a tart". Not sure what that means, but that's all I got at 11pm after a 6 mile run and some pain killers.
I sat next to an engineer from Kellogg's on a plane out of GR MI. It turned out he worked on the Pop-Tarts line. He explained the pop tarts got pre-cooked by running them on a long fast conveyor through an oven; 16 up per row and since the conveyor makes several right hand turns, it's tricky to get things running correctly, etc. I told him my favorite flavor was strawberry with frosting, and asked what his favorite flavor was. He looked at me like I was from Mars and said something along the lines of "I wouldn't eat that crap if my life depended on it." He had never eaten one. uncomfortable silence.... Oh! That's nice to know. Thank you.....
So this thread got my curiosity up, so I went to the pantry to see if we had any Pop Tarts. Turns out, we do. Original flavor. And I looked on the package and, sure enough, it says to heat for 3 seconds. I tried it, and my Pop Tart actually laughed at me when I took it out of the microwave for believing 3 seconds would do anything at all to it. It was as cold and lifeless taking it out as it was when I put it in. So I stuck it back in the package for someone else to eat. (You didn't actually expect me to eat it, did you?)
Maybe this belongs in the 'Remember When' thread: Remember when you used to put Pop Tarts in the toaster? The last time I had a Pop Tart, circa 1995, I didn't recall there being any microwave instructions.
I just bought some new Cinnabun breakfast bar last week. It says Heat for 3 seconds as well. I put it on 7 seconds and it was still not long enough. Probably just saving their asses.
I'll be honest here. I'm known at work as a sort of Pop-Tart expert. I absolutely love the things. If you are getting any with chocolate, you wrap them in a papertowel and microwave them for 15 seconds. No more, no less. Any others, you do the same but for 18 seconds. I have no idea what wattage the microwaves I use are, so bear with me a little.
