Need a Hose Source?

Two weeks ago, I had developed a hole in a return coolant line, and was looking for a replacement hose source - something BETTER than OEM, longer lasting, more durable, etc. I wanted to post what Mr. Dave Helms is now offering to the community as a MUCH better alternative for Ferraris. Dave has taken great pains to find a manufacturer who understands the Ferrari environment and application - his hoses are segregated based on application, be they Oil, Gasoline, or Coolant - and are specially formulated for that fluid. Dave has also taken-care of researching each hose per its Ferrari Part number, cross-referenced the dimensional requirements for the hose, and knows beforehand ID, OD, and needed length. There is NO guessing. Hoses I bought from Dave came with Breeze hose Clamps and clean edges. One hose I requested was a 'splice' for the long hose-run that sends coolant to the front heater radiators - Dave pre-installed an aluminum adapter tube into one end for quick-n-easy splicing. I got a few samples awhile back and was so impressed I ordered EVERY HOSE Dave makes.

I have gotten to know Dave over time. He does NOT SELL JUNK.

great news, and very timely too, i am in the midst of replacing all of my hoses on my QV, i am almost done with the cooling hoses, but i will give him a call for a sample, and i intend to buy all of the fuel tank hoses from him if possible.

We worked very hard on this and it has finally come together. A new company has been opened for all of our products we make, found an insurance company willing to take the time to learn what and why we are doing this and agreed this is a product line that's time has come.

Cataloging each and every hose by size and length for each model variant has been a daunting task and is worked on each and every day.... last night was working through the final details on mwr4440's order..... the kitchen table is now owned by this project, only it was large enough to spread it out on.

Yesterday I received confirmation of each and every hose being in current production with receipt being expected late this week/early next week. All fuel, oil return and coolant hose will now be available. I have decided to only make what was not currently available in what I consider a ultra high quality. Where I was able to find high quality in the aftermarket I purchased it in large volume to get good pricing as feed back I received was folks didn't want to source it themselves, they wanted to get an all inclusive package. All of the best clamps available were sourced for each application and then tested on cars in the shop and then alternatives located where even the best didn't make the grade. I now have hundreds of feet of hose that for one reason or another didn't fit right, didn't look right, didn't clamp right (many of Ferrari's hoses never fit right from the beginning and we didn't want to accept the same mistakes on ours, there is no alternative to hand testing/fitting these things).....sitting in the barn loft destined for tractor use only. If its on the shelf now it has been test fit by the most persnickety quality control people on earth, Niki and Franc. The simple fact is the currently available hose is not holding up these days in the coolant or fuel applications and we had to do this as we couldnt find a suitable alternative for either for our own use in the shop.

With the thumbs up from our NEW insurance company we now have all of the molds and mandrels being made for the molded hoses, fuel and coolant (all straight sizes are now on the shelf), and all of the critical in tank fuel components. There are a great many folks that have helped with this endeavor and much has been going on behind the scenes. B Wright was a great help in taking the time to test fit prototypes of fuel components and that grumpy old cuss refused to give the nod to the first hand laid up parts. This led to the need to develop a method of molding fuel system parts using the same material our fuel hose is lined with, a whole new technology. A lot of time and energy has gone into this (that alone brought a wide smile to Bruce, he enjoys being a PITA to me but his feedback was essential to getting this right the first time) but we are now in full production. Kris is working daily on a new web page that has a detailed Q&A section to answer all of the questions we can think of, drawings and notes of what we consider a "kit" for each model and pricing for each. Scuderia Rampante Innovations is about to become a reality thanks to the help and support of the whole Ferrari community and the best Customer Service and Engineering staff I have ever worked with at our hose manufacturing company.

 

Dave, you are an amazing asset to the Ferrari community! These hose kits are going to make life SO much easier for us old Fcar owners. I have lost track of the amount of time I spent figuring out what hoses to get and where to get them when I was doing my Mondial cooling system a couple year ago. The long front-to-back ones were $500 each from Ferrari (or something ridiculous like that) and none of the normal auto parts places carried any cooling hose in that length/diameter. I ended up having to order in bulk on-line, and it took a while to find the right hose. If you had a kit for the car back then, it would have saved me endless hours, not to mention peace of mind knowing that the hose is the best hose I can buy and will fit right.

Lets spread the word!!! Dave, let me know when your new improved website is up and I'll put a link to it on mine.

please post a link or pm me. i bought a "kit" of cooling hoses from SuperPerformance in the UK last week to finish my car, and i want to do the heater hoses and fuel hoses this month if its in the budget. ( been renovating my house ! )

 

I decided not to make these as they are highly visable and I have access to the proper cloth braided hose for the upper level hoses. Working through Marks Kit yesterday.... Proper Cloth braided hose up high, quality drain hoses from the seperator down and our own design oil drain back hose on the rear of the 1-4 head comprise a " Vent System kit ".

I have held off on making the "7" shaped oil drain back hose for the carbed cars as I do not think the demand would come close to covering the costs of manufacture and am having the same problem with the 45 degree coolant hoses under the 2vi intakes although I may have found a mandrel for those coolant hoses. If the mandrel works I will produce a small run of those as I hate leaving one weak link in the chain...

I was taught the fine points of Ferrari by some of the best this business will ever know. They demanded quality and perfection back then and were able to provide just that. When the parts became the weakest link and we could no longer buy (at any price) top shelf quality.... I *****ed about it for years here and then just decided to do something about it. We decided to develop product line's for those looking for the very best as that is what we demand at our own shop. If we are making it...you can be darn sure we are using it and have found no alternative that suits our needs. I have no want to make parts just to compete with another product line. Cheaper parts are available, better are not and in turn it isn't for everyone. No need to apologize or make excuses about the price when absolute quality is the driving force behind a product line.... folks now have a choice that is MADE IN USA, that's all I set out to do.

Ironically it was a dear friends 3.2 Mondial Cab. that took to blowing out the regular Green Stripe hoses right after he had a knee replacement and couldnt walk well yet. They were only 2-3 yrs old (turned hard as a rock in that time, the formula must have changed in recent years) and that was the final straw that forced us into the hose business. It is because of the Mondials and the Dino's that I have all of our hose made in 12' sections... costs me a bit more but at least I have the belly pan hose applications covered that way. Be sure, in those lengths mine is not inexpensive but it damn sure isn't a regular old chunk of rubber hose either. In the belly pan applications, away from radiated engine heat and UV...our Silicone hose will out last a good many of us if installed properly.

I thought working with the engineering staff in the design of our hoses was difficult... poor Kris and that website... what a Pain... first our server dropped off the face of the planet then this! It will be linked off of ours and I would be delighted to link to yours and a number of others. I know nothing about the computer stuff...Kris wont even let me near the accounting computer, credit card machine.... nothing, as she knows I will muck it up permanently. Between our Advertising Gal and Kris.... verbal male bashing all day long now as Kris is the CEO of SR Innovations because I couldnt break free from a TR engine to go to the laywers office with her. Lesson learned.

 

I'm a believer now. I was looking at my 3-year-old Gates Green Stripe 'links' between the rigid aluminum coolant tubes and thinking to myself......they look awfully swollen for 3-year-old hose...

 

I'm having a heck of a time finding an oil cooler line for my 84 308 QV GTS US, are those being made too? Thanks!

 

Interesting and very odd...

I've got Green Stripe hoses everywhere on my BB. Six years now since they were last replaced...and they still look 100% brand new. I've been using Green Stripe hoses (the real deal, not the Napa "equivalent" for over twenty years now on this car and usually feel that I being wasteful when I replace them at the "majors", as they look and feel as new. Piece of mind, I guess...

I started about a year ago using "Dave's Hoses" on some of my client cars. It too is an extreme quality product. I was so impressed with the quality and fitment that the Green Stripe, in my shop, is now history. Candidly, his products just fit better, with much less effort to install in those "every so special" I can see it, but I can't get my hand in there, places.

You got NOS Green Stripe hose... the product we all trusted for many years. The new stuff (GS) is the reason for this little side track adventure (Aka MAJOR black hole) I am on now....

Gates Regional sales rep dropped in today for a visit... Gates Corporate Hdqrts is 20 miles down the road and I used to be a fairly sizeable customer. Finally able to show a sales guy (engineers had samples the next day) samples of the failed hoses we have on the shelf in both the fuel and coolant varities. What once was...is no longer.

 

Ah ha! You are correct. I had a very substantial amount that I had purchased years back. I did notice the that new 3/4" GS "looked" a bit different than the old...

No matter, you've got all of my hose business.

Bring yours to a commercial hose distributor. They custom make hoses for excavation equipment, power steering, and lots of other applications.

 

I got one for my Mondial last year from Ricambi and the price wasn't bad.

Do you carry the fuel tank crossover fuel hoses for the 308 ?

I bought the suggested PN from NAPA and I honestly can't believe folks would actually use it. It's got to be a good 2mm oversized and I was able to almost fold a crease in it after I slipped it onto the fuel tank connection! Way to loose.

Wonderful hose products you're developing and marketing - undoubtedly a much needed solution for many ferrari owners.

Do you have a list available along with pricing? Do you put together a kit? Something like a complete fuel line kit for a 308 or perhaps a coolant line kit for a 328 or ?

Working on it. Two owners now have the kits or will in the next two days and I am waiting on their feedback prior to marketing it. We have done exhaustive testing and fitting in house but what matters is what others have to tell us regarding their thoughts on fit, ease of use and such. A decision was made to build the kits to coralate to the factory parts manual Tav's, ie...Evaporative kit, Fuel kit, Blow-By kit, Coolant kit... Identifying the correct length for each hose on each model and matching the correct clamps to all is a daunting task but now near the end. I did not make these to be 'cheap', I made them to be reliable and last a very long time. If my name is going on it I want the best money can buy. Cheap options are already available for those looking for that.
