Not to hijack the thread, but did you ever end up suing those crooks? I remember the original thread and it was headed that way, but never saw the follow up post.

Is rubino red or whatever it was really an off color? So you dont think prices are going down? It was sold and for that amount. What does that indicate?

I was looking to buy that nice black 360 (listed at 79k) with great exterior but beat up interior and when I started asking a lot of questions about documentation, history and maintenance, the sales person himself convinced me not to buy it.
I ended up getting a well documented 430 instead. You get what you pay for period.

You see this kind of want brings in the crowd that buys cars at the lowest price possible and then can not afford to maintain them. The time has come for a new toy car for me this year and so my search begins, but I know that the hardest part is finding one with good history. These guys just barely affording these types of cars, are driving them past their service needs and then loosing them back to the banks cause they cant afford the 25% apr or cant afford the service fees. They have to lie to sell them quick or the dealer gets them at auction and then the dealers scam the unsuspecting buyers. Hate to stereotype but...... I am fairly good at buying cars though. If your income is not at least 3 times the amount of the car, maybe not a good idea. Just my $.02!

I always thought the rule of buying cars was that your (annual) income should equal the price of the car. But w/e the point made is good.

Let's see, a person making $15k/year (around minimum wage) would drive a $15k car.

Blue collar worker, $30-$40k/year, would drive a $25-$30k car.

    Middle management, $60k/year, $50-$60k car.

Sounds about right to me, YMMV.

I know this is a bit off topic but the top of the non CS 360 range, a 2005 spyder, with 3k miles sold yesterday wholesale for $111k. Nice clean car , so that is an indication where the "other end" of the 360 range is currently trading.

Remember that I said toy car, not your DD. Plus that does not apply to high end exotic cars where a oil change is more than the weekly spending budget of a annual household.

We are in this financial mess cause households were buying cars well beyond their means. Lets see, you buy a Escalade for $1000 a month lease, $1200 for mortgage with adjustable rate, bringing home $2800. After utilities, gas you have $200 left for play. Oops, the rate goes up and your mortgage goes to $1800. Go figure

Going back to F cars. If you have to scrounge up to purchase a toy car, dont do it. Plus I also think you should buy your toy cars in cash. I dont like to pay a bank interest for a already depreciated car. Lets leave the expensive cars to people who can maintain them and then sell them the same way.

That would probably mean what $120k at the dealer? I'd say thats about right actually.

I see your point I wasn't disagreeing with the concept just the exact figure. Which is why I said w/e, point is spend within your means whatever that happens to be. It also depends a lot on your lifestyle, if you are married with kids, etc... Anyway, on a contrary note, I actually lost out big by not leasing my Corvette. Bought it new for $45k (came out to $50k with TTD) and sold it with only 3k miles a year and a half later for $30k. Of course noone could have predicted the market falling out that happened, but the salesperson for purely selfish reasons was asking me to take a lease at the time and I said no I'll pay cash. I should have done the lease and the dealership would have had to eat that rather unexpected $20k depreciation. Now we are probably back to a time when paying cash is a good idea again though since the prices are probably about as low as they are going to go (not counting regular annual book depreciation) for a while.

Yeah that sucks. I lost 40K in my last toy car in last than a year. Just sold it about a month ago. The way I justify it will be that I am getting a 200K Ferrari for 100K. I remember meeting someone about 3 or 4 years ago, that purchased a used 360 spider for $224K. But that is why cash is usualy better cause when you sell it, you dont have to worry being upside down. If I start worrying about loosing money on toy cars, then I need a new hobby/passion. Purchasing sports cars is a expensive sport!

I would hate to see the 360 you'd end up with for $60K... not to mention the repair/service bill that would probably be lurking over the horizon.

You might be able to find a 99 with 20K plus miles down in the low $70k range though. Just expect it to need $10K worth of service probably.
