I was on my way to finalize and pay for a black 430 after negotiating for weeks and took my wife along. She then saw a red one sitting next to it and went: you are not buying a black ferrari.
I now have a red 430 that screams look at me and I am having to get used to it. The red does make the details come up better than black.

My black ferrari has been deemed sinister in appearance, while my red ferrari's has been considered much more civilized. (By my neighbors) I like both. With the myraids of red corvettes......i feel somewhat opaque in my red car, its the black one that gets all the attention......especially by the Local police. (excuse sp. no spell ck on this comp.)

Not much choice with an F40 unless you repaint it yourself or buy 1 of the very few cars in other colors

It does attract attention like Salma Hayek in a bikini :)

Well, gorgeous blondes with large breasts are quite cliche too...but does that mean we should abstain from riding in one?

I've always thought red was a bit too "LOOK AT ME!!!" But, Ferraris have a licence to wear red. It's a cliche like a Rolex watch or a navy polo shirt -- you don't have to justify it. You obviously don't buy a Ferrari to sneak around.

Personally, I like the darker colors more because they make the viewer really look at the car before it registers as a Ferrari. Also, black makes the tail lights really pop, and it hides body seams, so the viewer gets an uninterrupted experience of the design.

Also, IMHO the newer Ferraris are too large to be at their best in red. I saw a red 612 (and I like the 612) in downtown San Diego, and it looked wrong. Ditto the 599. Too heavy a car for such a sporting color. I saw a black metallic 612 at Symbolic Motors about a year ago, OTOH, and it was an elegant and imposing car.

But, I was parked near a Starbucks earlier this year - my black met 328 next to FChat'er 3forty8's red 348. A older couple walked back to their minivan, which was parked right next to us, and the guy immediately locks on to Eric's 348 and says "I like that one, because it's candy apple red." So, there is something to indulging the public perception. ;)

Non-red Ferraris stand out more than red ones!

Sorry shy guys, but the polls prove RESALE RED (rosso corsa) is numero uno for Ferraris! When I told my parents I bought a Ferrari, one of their first sentences was, "I hope you got a red one."

True, Ferraris look great in different colors, too! No doubt about that one, but come on... "I have a Ferrari, but I'm scared to be seen in it, so I got a color that won't let people see me, and I don't have shields either because I don't like the attention, and I wish I didn't have a Spyder, but I never take the top off because that's showing off." C'mon - LIVE and SMILE :) !

I had a dark slate-blue BMW 635 from '95-'99, then a black 2000 VW Beetle from '99-'01, swore off very dark colors after because they show every spot of dirt in an instant and suck in that 100F TX summer heat.

    My 330 2+2 was silver/tan, current 308 GTS Rosso Corsa/tan.

Brother, I don't know how old you are, but Ferrari = Midlife Crisis no matter what color you have.

I had a some of the same thoughts when I bought my Rosso Corsa 308GTS and stuck a Tubi on it, now don't give it a thought.

If people want to call me a pitiful old fart in a noisy bright-red Ferrari, their prob, not mine. :D

I bought my first Ferrari (a 246 Dino gt) as a basket case for $8 grand in 1980. It was red. I was 24. I don't think I would consider 24 "mid-life crisis".

Since then I've had 4 different Ferrari's -- ALL RED.

I hate to say it, but the whole red Ferrari, aside from F1, was a Magnum PI thing that started in the 80's. Before then, most road going Ferraris weren't red.

I thought red was the color, but that all changed today when i got up-close to a Yellow F430. Red F430s may be nice, but these cars look absolutely BEAUTIFUL in yellow.

Here's a pic i took today of that amazing car..

I to was concerned also about the amount of attention I might receive with my 348 spider, red/tan but nobody seems to notice, or ask anything about the car, maybe it's that Phoenix has so many exotics, I don't think I'm that scary looking that people would run the other way so it must be Phoenix.

I just got my 612 last week (my first F car), and wanted only black. Personally, I feel the V12s look better in that color, and wanted something as low profile as possible. I am exceptionally happy and stand by my decision.

My father's neighbor has a 365 GTB 4 in "fly yellow" and it's unbelievable. Red is beautiful, but there are other options.

Cal is so full of ferrari's and lambo's people don't really notice me. Drove by Mcdonalds yesterday saw a lambo in the parking lot. When i got home, there was a 430, 360 and NSX parked around the neigborhood all at the same time, at different homes. Most of my attention comes from young kids and the homeless...........

When i got my blk 308 gtb i went to show my friend........he was all excited and called his family to come see........the 2 teenage girls come up.....look at it and say..........oh......its an old one and turn around and leave........felt like slapping her.......i just gave her my miata as a gift for her 16th B-day..........

When I was shopping for my Ferrari, I had it narrowed down to 2 that I had to choose from - red and yellow. I had to think it over for a few weeks, and really was torn. I asked some friends, all but 1 said to go for the yellow because it is different, they said "everyone has red". I eventually settled on the yellow, but red is definitely beautiful.

I bought a TDF car because I do not like the attention. Didn't work. Driving at night is a pretty good way to avoid the paparazzi.

To me, Rosso Corsa is the generic Italian Racing Red from F-1 and endurance races, so it's representative of any Italian sports car. I had a rosso corsa Alfa Giulietta Sprint Speciale and that was the perfect color because it made the tiny car look larger. My Abarth was more like a rosso fiorano and looked about as big as a Smart-for-Two. Ironically, I painted my Lola 1100 sports racer rosso corsa, even though it was British. It looked gorgeous; almost like a Maserati Birdcage.
Those are the only red cars I've had.

Personally, I think that bigger cars look ungainly in red. My first Ferrari, a 330 GTC, which I got when I was 31, was dark green. I wished that one had been a rosso corsa or fiorano because it looked pretty tame and I was a young guy. I don't think my 456 would work in red.

Your first Ferrari MUST be red. After that you can own any color you want.
