This is interesting... Who wants to put a bid in? http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/1997-mclaren-f1-gtr-race-car-for-sale-in-japan/ _J
Apparently no one - BingoSports has had that F1 for sale in their showroom and on their website since January 30th, 2008. It's kind of funny how it is just now making the "news" on various motoring websites. >8^) ER
^that Top Gear video of the Mac vs Bug was incredible! Such a great video! Unbelievable that the Big Macca held its own until 240kmh!! What a fantastic, timeless machine!
Sure was - I'm in lust all over again Some screen shots from the show: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thomas Wieringa and Paul Cherry were the ones who brought it into the USA in 2000. There methods for doing so and attempts to sell the car while it was here eventually got them into some hot water with US Customs. Here's the final chapter in the story of its time in the USA: = = = = = Yes, and given their asking price rumored to be between $4M and $5M, it will likely still be there next May too. >8^) ER
I didn't ask the price, but it seems like they are more in the museum mode rather than the dealer mode of late...
I know, i tried my darnedest to do a road trip with him to go see it.... it never happened and when he last checked if his uncle had it, it was gone.
Can anyone identify this? I saw it on friday. Is it a 'normal' F1 or a LM? Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's an F1 road car with the factory High Downforce Kit. The chassis is #020. The car belongs to Tony Smith, former band manager for Phil Collins' Genesis. It's been used on several television programs about the F1 including this episode of 5th Gear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTaXbG43udo Murray Walker, the famous F1 announcer, had a go in it - producing one of the more entertaining F1 clips out there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIws06WoAn4 Ignore their misspelling of "McClaren" at the beginning of that clip. Congrats on the sighting. I assume you were at the Silverstone Classics? Did you happen to take any additional shots of the car? >8^) ER
Thanks for the info, i have only 1 more pic as it was cordoned off and i didnt want to hang around as it started raining, it was probably the only car there that you could not walk right up to and yes, it was at the Silverstone classic. Funny you mention Murray Walker as i met him a couple of hundred metres away, very nice chap who had time to stand and speak with me and my friend for a bit. I have almost 1000 pics of the day between us so there is anything else you want to see that was running let me know The Mac F1 was a definite highlight though. PS I might have a couple more pics from slightly different angles on another computer, i can sort them out and post them if you want. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sure thing - no one will ever complain about more pics of a McLaren F1. By the way - I am not psychic. Some other pics of this F1 parked in the grass by his motorhome showed up on PistonHeads.com over the weekend: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=63&t=725119&mid=0&nmt=F1 >8^) ER
I really don't know? Who are you... my mother? Actually I am up late, been working on finishing a project, taking little sanity breaks here and there. >8^) ER
They obviously got a bit closer to it than i did when it was in the pits, i didnt go to the campsite as i was only visiting for the friday. Do you know what classic he was racing as the F1 didnt go out on the track? I saw what i thought was a Ferrari in a garage but it had the cover over so i could only see the general shape i saw a 512s running on the track later so i guessed it was that. Ill grab the pics later and post them when i am next online
