Man, not again.... the last month in planes and celebrities has been rough.

This is such a tragedy, makes you wonder when your time will be up when random stuff like this keeps happening.

 

Another Airbus? Is something wrong with them?

they need to ground these things until a clear cause can be determined.

i wonder if the tail broke off of this one also, while these guys were in a hard turn to go around.

what a waste of lives and resources.

I hate flying in planes built by Frenchmen working 32 hours a week. Seriously.

We don't know much of anything about the actual crash yet - except: This <> 20 years old plane had 52,000 hours. It was declared UNSAFE last year when inspected in Paris and not allowed to fly further legs into France.

Weather conditions on TV were called "severe winds" and such. The reported wind at the airport was 38mph - not enough to bring down a jetliner, but you cannot predict what wind shear there may have been on approach. The plane went down about 20 miles from the airport, so it was likely in a pre-approach configuration - probably not real slow or gear down. (like the wind shear crash of the AA plane here in Dallas years ago that brought about the wind shear alert system on most larger airports)

As one little boy of 5 survived, it probably did not hit the water going straight down. Later we shall probably find out if it came down in pieces.

 

I have spoken to some mechanics who have worked on the older Airbus types and they claim that it is a throwaway airplane when the elex are through. Then it's off to a third world outfit.

 

Kind of a bummer when the electrics alone work all the control surfaces and just a little too much on the controls will break it apart in flight.

Correction - the survivor now is said to be a 14 year old girl. Maybe she will be able to remember something (if only marginal) about what was going on when it happened.

 

Early report is they've recovered one of the 'black' boxes - whether FDR or Cockpit Voice Recorder is unclear.

 

Not particularly an Airbus fan, but this event may be more about "third world" commercial airlines and their maintenance practices than about the aircraft itself. Too soon to tell.

 

I have heard the comments about older Airbus aircraft being too expensive and impractical to refurbish into optimum condition structurally as well as the elex. I was asked, " Ever own a 35mm Japanese camera? When the electronics are shot , you throw it away and go out and buy and buy another one."

 

Hope this doesn't become the norm for modern era Ferraris as well!

 

I have never worked on an Airbus (that I can remember).
However as a former aircraft inspector I do not have confidence in fly-by-wire control systems. Especially backed by more of the same.
Give me old fashioned Boeing and McDonald Douglas cables any day.

As an aside Airbus has an unfair competitive advantage in using Government backed suppliers bought by Government backed Airlines.
US based carriers should stop buying them period.

And for our Government to buy them is a sin.
