Scheduled for a factory visit next week. In all likelihood I'll be going there from Florence. Is there any good recommendation for car rental? So far all I found is Hertz who can probably offer a Peugeot 207 Convertible or Sixt that offers Audi A4. While I was not hoping for fancy one like F-car I would prefer to get something better if possible. Not sure how the receptionist at Ferrari would respond if I do pull up in a Peugeot... :)

Trust me, they won't know or care. You'll probably be parking across the street anyway.

Oh, I thought it's going to be a huge compound where I'll be directed to visitor's carpark full of fancy wheels? Looking at some video I thought it was fairly large? How long is the drive from Florence anyway? Or would I be better off spending a night a Modena or somewhere closer? Tx in advance...

Your tour should start in front of the Galleria Ferrari.
    There is no receptionist.
You will meet your tour guides in front and they will take you in.

I'd stay in Modena. They won't see or care about your car.

Go to Ristorante Montana while you are there.

Thanks RD. Just checked it out on google map and looks like it's going to be 2-3hr drive so I'll probably try to stay at Modena as I have a 9:30 appointment scheduled. Will try to take as many pictures as possible...

I guess the impression from the receptionist is really just my lame excuse but I do would like to see if there's any way I can rent something of better quality.

actually, you will buzz at the main gate and they will let you into a waiting room. the tour guides will come out and brief you then load you on to a bus and drive you over to an auditorium, then you will watch a presentation. then back on the bus and over to the factory. we never went near the galleria. But, that was two years ago. maybe they changed it. Either way, no one will see what car you drove.

Don't forget the lambo factory, only about 25 minutes away. pagani, maserati and ducati aren't far either.

Make reservations at the Planet Hotel, directly across the street from the factory gate and arrive the night before your tour and have dinner that night at Montana. The hotel has safe, secure underground parking if you do rent an exotic. Tell Franco Fregni , the hotel general manager, that you will require parking when you arrive. And don't worry, you do not pull up to the factory gates. Just walk across the street to the reception area. You can not park on the factory grounds.

There are numerous threads under "factory visit". Use the search feature to obtain all the iformation you will need to enjoy Maranello.

The tours no longer start at the factory. They start at the Galleria. I believe they changed that this year.

I have just returned from May 2009 tour and it was as I have described.
Also the tour included F1 Client Garage and FXX Client Garage.

Your description is accurate of my tour of 2007

Quite right. We stayed at the Planet in May and the underground parking was fine...even some fun to navigate! Lunch at Cavallino (twice) and dinner at Montana (only once). We were fortunate to get a tour of Ferrari Classiche as well. We skipped the factory tour due to time constraints.

    Jack.

Did the tour last year, when it started from the factory gate building - had to park on the street some distance away. At least the galleria has a parking lot.

Lunch at the Cavallino is recommended!

Avis rent Alfas of various types - a 2.4 turbo Diesel 159 6 speed is comfortable, economical and surprisingly quick.

Lancias are also interesting and fun.

Exactly what we drove. It was fine although I really hankered for a Fiat 500 Abarth!

I think the drive from Florence was around 3 hours, maybe less. If you're coming that direction, you might also consider staying in Bologna.

I was there in June, the tour started at the Gallaria, there is a reception desk inside the door, 23.5 feet at a forty five degree angle from the door, they will give you credentials, there is room to have caffee and buy books and trinkets. The tour moves upstairs for a brief movie and instructions in how to work the recorded message thing, then you go to the museo to see some neat cars which I liked quit a bit and which JTL didnt, then to the bus where they collect phones and cameras, then to the paint shop...etc. I liked the tour more than I thought I would, our tour lasted more than three hours. I wish it had gone to classiche instead of the F! and Clienti areas. Parking is in a car park in front of the Gallaria. NO ONE will know or care what you are driving. This is big business, not the old factory. I liked the Formula 1 store for trinkets, better than the factory store, it had a great book selection, but you can buy them on line and not have to carry them. If you drive to Florence the ss 112 route is very nice. I liked lunch at Cavallino as much as any food, didnt make it to Montana in spite of trying to eat four meals a day. Have a good time. Malcolm

Boy, how things have changed. Did a tour with my sister XMAS week of 1987...
Just show up at the gate, walk into reception area, hang around a bit until
private guide shows up. Just the three of us, all over the assembly area
(no foundry, just assembly area). Take all the pics you want.
Little wrap up session, complete with trinket(key fob) and off you go.

Stayed in Modena(or Maranello, don't quite remember), took cab/bus for transportation, so no big deal.
On the way out of the tour, was standing at the street/curb, saw this
THING come creeping out...driver saw us, then floored it/blasted off,
got one good pic, one blurry/fast motion pic, then it was GONE.

Early F40, it turned out :)

I'm in Florence and my dealer has yet to confirm with me regarding the possibility of a visit, other than the fact that my original preference weren't available. Calling the factory myself didn't help neither as they insisted that I need to go thru my dealer....

You better get 'on it' with your home dealer, to confirm a Tour....this is not sounding good...I don't think 'walk ins" are allowed any longer???

Man, I'd hate to see this be our first "turned away" thread for a real owner!
