Trying to decide whether to tint my windows. Tinting to the legal limit would reduce heat which is the primary benefit in the hot Arizona climate. As a secondary benefit it will look cool on my black/black Modena. But on the other hand, its been said you got a cool car perhaps its good to be seen, lol. Wish I had the Knight Rider tech and just be able to tint/untint whenever I want!
I have tinted the windows in my cars for one reason only and that is to protect the leather interiors, filters the UV light. Otherwise not a big fan of the stuff so I get the lighter shades.
Definitely tint. I had a Nero/Nero 355 and the tints really added to the overall look. I have tints on my current spider also. That said, I don't drive my car to be "seen" in it...
Tint it, black and black would make it look cool and it really does cool your car down in the AZ weather. PAP, whoring your car every chance you get, eh?
Yes, tint! As others have said, it not only looks good, but it's functional. It will help protect the interior and keep it cooler.
for those of you who have 360's or 430's, which windows do you tint? for example is the rear hatch tinted (in which case you won't see the engine as well), or do you tint the side windows and inner rear window only so the cockpit is tinted but you can still see the engine well through the glass of the rear hatch?
I would tint in a minute, but since I am still showing my car in judged events, I can't afford the points I'd be docked. Maybe if I would fix all the other things they always find on my car, I could swing it! Another Daytona owner says it makes a big difference on his car.
Hey Pap, In the US, you would receive a fix it ticket for the dark tint. It already happen to me. Is it legal in Australia?
You betcha! Honestly, it IS illegal. But I am lucky to live in an area where the Police dont seem to mind too much. My brother also has similar on his Chrysler 300C and he drives it more than my Ferrari and has never been pulled over for it. Touch wood, we will be right.
Since the 328's air-conditioning vents are all in the middle of the dash, I found the strange circumstance of being cooled on my right side while heat came in the window on my left side to be quite bothersome. I had a mild tint put on the side windows that only darkened the windows slightly while cutting out 41% of the ultraviolet radiation. This was a good compromise, since the reduction in side heat is noticeable but the visual effect is minimal. Of course, the a/c is still very marginal in temperatures above 90 degrees or so.
I took your thoughts one step further and tinted the windshield with 50%. I know it is illegal, I know about the pain to remove it prior to sale. I didn't care and it makes a significant difference in cabin temps, glare, and comfort.
I tinted the windows on my car. My car is now ~10 or more degrees cooler. I got ticketed 2 years ago for tint. $110ish ticket by the State Police. I talked to my local PD, 2 of the officers came out and said off the record it looked really good but offically it was illegal. We ended up talking for 10 or so minutes. They went back to work and I left. I have a friend that is a state cop. He doesn't care about the tint level. The only time he cared is if he was needing a reason to pull someone over for if they were doing something suspecious but committing no driving violations.
I notice only a nominal difference. The goods outweigh the bads. This is of course after a headlight upgrade.
In a hot climate, i.e. Arizona/Oz, yeah sure, tints are good. But in a country where it rains/cloudy (here in the UK) for half the year, defo NO, looks too a pimpin'. BTW Papster, your 348 looks in fab nick .
