As a new member here, a big howdy, to all.....I have just acquired an '86 Mondial 3.2 Coupe, my first adventure into Ferrari land. I came upon the car for sale quite by accident and desires from my youth quickly took over after seeing and driving the car for the first time. Some would say that it is not a rational purchase, the car is old, will not appreciate in value, will likely give my insurance agent, who doubles as my wife, fits and makes me appear as yet another example of a male in mid-life crisis.

But as an outlet for one that loves to tinker, explore the inner workings of a beautiful machine and is soothed by the cacophony created by the belts, gears, intake and exhaust notes....this car could not have found a better home.

You fit right in with the rest of us! Welcome :) Ferrari fever is like poison ivy...you can scratch the itch, but that only makes it spread. One guy wrote, "The only thing worse than Ferrari aquirement is Ferrari withdrawl."

You got one of the finest examples of the Mondial I've seen. I like the white seats against the red carpet and the wide tires (with plenty of new tread).

    Welcome to F-Chat!

A warning: Ferrari's are like eating peanuts. Once you have one, you never want to stop.

Welcome and drive it often and with gusto!

Car is beautiful. But I wonder if the wheel offset is proper...looks like they won't swing under the body on a deep bump.

Welcome here and congratulations for your new Mondial coupé! A great choice even if some people would say that I am biased as a 1987 3,2 coupé owner !!!

You will find here a geat community!!!

Do you use spacers with your wheels?

Where did you find this nice Mondial? I never saw it for sale on the net ...

If it is your first Ferrari, even though I do not know your vintage sportscar background, take time to warm the engine oil ( I start the engine and let it run for at least five to seven minutes before thinking of letting her spin ) and lots of other little important details ... Don't be afraid to ask and use the search option you will learn a lot of valuable informations.

Welcome again and enjoy it in good health!

I don't know if i would have taken the big step to purchase my 77 if i hadn't felt the great support and knowledge evident here at FChat.

What ever you want to do with the car, no matter how involved, you will find an audience and help.

    Welcome,

Oh, BTW, don't be so sure, rendez-vous in ten years to talk about it ... As I already wrote, we are very lucky to be able to get our hands on these cars for so little money ...

Thanks for the welcome folks ... tis good to see that you have a very robust group here that will keep things lively.

Jedi....thank you for uploading the pics for everyone, cool move. I tend to throw in a lot of photos from time to time so I went ahead and upgraded my membership that turns the image code on.

Thanks, I like the looks of the wheels too...They are 17" HRE's (not sure of the wheel widths yet) with 235 45R's front and the rears weigh in with 255 40R's. The tires are some I am not familiar with...Fuzion 93w.

Paul, you are correct. When I first inspected the car before purchase, I suspected that they were sticking out too much, but the tires were brand new and did not show any evidence of rubbing. After purchase, I found out on the drive home that indeed they will hit the wheel arch and have now grooved the left rear. I found out also that when turning the steering wheel to full right lock, the left front tire rubs the A/C vent louvers. I looked for spacers but found none. Given the depth of the center star compared to the factory wheels I am relatively sure the offset is all wrong. HRE offers a service to rebuild/repaint/reset offset and width existing wheels. So I have sent them a quote request to get them squared away. I will probably go with narrower fronts to downsize tires to 225's and see if I can't stick with the fat rears with proper offset.

Effer....I found the car in nearby Overton, NV...on Craigs List. The seller had tried Ebay, to no avail...lucky for me.

With proper offset you won't have any problem, I have 265 35 ZR18 with an offset of + 65mm and 225 40 ZR18 front with same offset.

Another option are Superformance rims if you want to go to a 16" diameter and keep the "stock" look. They have the correct offset, no spacers needed.

Yep, looks like a good alternative. A lot to be said for the original look. I will have to weigh the alternatives once I get some info back from HRE..

That looks soooo much like the car Jim was thinking about from Indiana. It did also have a Texas history, serviced at Sewell Lexus per the paperwork.

Looks great, enjoy. If I lived closer to work, I would drive a 3.2 coupe as my company car.
