COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Grove City police officer was placed on paid leave after he allegedly exposed himself inside a department store, 10TV News reported Tuesday.
Investigators said Officer Steven Howard, a 25-year veteran, exposed himself inside a Kohl's store, located at 1700 Morse Road, on Thursday, 10TV News reported.

Columbus police said they were notified by store security officers who saw Howard.

Howard is in charge of the Youth Services Bureau, but Grove City police officials said he did not have direct contact with children.

You have no idea how many times I've seen cops suddenly turn their lights and sirens on to run a red light, as soon as they get through they turn them off.

 

...many people don't realise that, at least in texas, emergency services are required to obey all traffic laws - even with lights on, all that grants is right-of-way, nothing more...about twenty years ago, there was an officer in college station who made a point of this issue, following other police, ambulances, and fire trucks during deployment, always respectfully out-of-the-way and obeying traffic laws himself, then politely and discreetly pulling them aside to issue a citation once they'd completed business at their destination...

...if only civilians could get away with citizen citations like that; i imagine we'd have much more reasonably-written traffic laws in short order...

And fire trucks as they do not want to stay in traffic on the way to 24-hour fitness or the store. I see it all the time.

You can also make a citizens arrest. Problem is people are too busy in their own lives to notice what is going on around them.

 

The cop who 'lets-it-out' once and awhile is ALSO the cop who will give you a warning while 'exercising' your Ferrari on the backroads. These are the 'cool' guys. The by-the-book, pencil-neck guy who NEVER goes over the double-nickel is the guy who writes you the $257 ticket for ten-over.....think about it.

Oh, yes I do. I've been skewered here for pointing out the out-of-control bully attitude and hypocrisy of the majority of ossifurs here in N. Texas, and I still stand by it. When I've got non-call squad cars (sometimes in gangs, sorry, pairs) ripping down residential streets at 70+ mph (I can hear the wind noise from the back yard, if the engine screaming doesn't overwhelm it), on their way to Pot Belly's or Einstein's Bagels, it maddens me more that I can't do anything if I catch them. Yeah, I've called them in - ever try to get the car number from one that's quickly disappearing in the distance? Know what happens if you get the car number becuase you were exiting your driveway as they flew by? Ossifur bob's word against mine, and I get "higer interest" for a while.

Um, no. No assertion of power in that = no fun.
Of the three I've known who were Police for the right reason, one is retired, and I suspect that only one of the remaining is likely not to have succumbed to the power trip.

 

Not exactly true. While they are required to show due dilagence, they can run red lights, they can break the speed limit. However, if they are in a wreck, they are not immune from prosecution.

 

I have a problem with the cop who gave out the ticket. He should have let him pass. Part of the brotherhood.

 

I know for a fact in both DC and MD they can't run red lights! I am quite positive that it is the same in VA as well. They are supposed to stop completely before going through them. And we all know that this doesn't happen most of the time.

I thought they impounded your car for over 100?

 

In most states, 100+ is felony (as opposed to misdemeanor) speeding.

 

Yes they do, though it does vary by State his vehicle shoulda been impounded and he should have immediately gone to jail. Speeding, reckless driving, etc charged filed. That is the law.

 

I think it's a publicity stunt really.

 

This story is still unfolding here. It was 2 cops on Kawasaki's. Other one clocked at 149 mph. Got them with a plane. Plane had record of time. Call to cop on the ground. Pull them over. Run plates. Too much record of event to let them go or they would have. They didn't get the ticket till 7 days later. Patrol cop let them go and took ticket to supervisor and asked what he was suppose to do. They will both plead guilty and hope to not lose their jobs.


Turns out now there was a 3rd cop with them.
