It has been a long road but #2169 is finished for the most part outside of a few pickup items. Some of you may have been following the progress through Tom Yang so you know the incredible attention to detail and accuracy that Zac Dugger has been working towards over the past 3.8 years.

Here are some more photos courtesy of Larry O’Rourke and myself of 2169 which I showed for the first time at the Rodeo Show in Beverly Hills on Fathers Day. 2169 is one of the pre-production 250 GTE’s and was also the Paris car show car for the world wide launch of the GTE and the car used in most of the GTE road tests, ads and launch materials. Rumor has it that it was also driven by Enzo Ferrari for some time after the show before being shipped to Luigi Chinetti where it was sold to Daniel Gerber the founder of Gerber baby food.

Being a pre-production car 2169 has many interesting differences from production GTE’s which include a flat steering wheel, a different shaped center tunnel and back seat, longer door pockets, no metal kick plates on the door or center tunnel next to the accelerator, no Ferrari logo on the trunk, a rear lifted license plate, no reverse light, no rubber bumper inserts in the front bumper, red trunk carpet along with multiple differences mechanically.

I have also posted shots of 2169 in the Pininfarina’s Studio, 2169 at the 1960 Paris Car Show for the World wide launch of the GTE, 2169 in the 1960 Ferrari Yearbook and a few ads. And yes this is the original color which was matched and not easily reproduced from an interior window trim piece.

    Hope you enjoy…

That is so pretty, absolutely a virtual brand new car. Enjoyed the comparisons with the old photos of the original too. Patience and diligence. Thanx for sharing. One can appreciate the luxury and grandeur of this car. w/ smiles Jimmy

    Hi Scott,

After viewing the restoration photos, particularly the engine, I'm suffering a severe case of "Finish Envy". For me, it would take 3.8 years just to coordinate the different finishes in the engine compartment.

It's a beautiful job and your photos are going into my "here's an example of how it's done" file.

    Congratulations.

The finish you have created on this car is amazing, was the color Rosso Rubino Metallizzato originally?

Very very nice work on that 250 GTE !!! Exterior and interior color look fabulous on the car.

One small note: the "italian" license plates on the front and the rear are different. Front has the number 081014 while on the rear the number is 140810 ;)

    Best regards

    Kevin

That's definitely not Enzo. I believe that it's Charles De Gaulle, who was very tall.

Absolutely gorgeous car. The GTE was the first Ferrari that I was aware of as a kid. So many of these have been destroyed to produce fake GTOs and the like. It's wonderful that the original has been preserved.

Yes the original color was Rosso Rubino Metallizzato and we matched the color from an interior window trim piece and the color was also listed on the build sheet. We will not be taking the car to Monterey this year but we will be bringing it to Cavallino for the 50th anaversery of the GTE. Thanks for sending the old thread posted by Sh8kr in 2004 who inherited the car, very interesting. I wish it was all true and the only thing the car needed to be finished was paint...

Thanks for all the kind words, we worked are tails off to get it done for Rodeo. Scott is a great owner and really loves these cars so we were able to do a GTE right.

Thanks Bill, means a lot coming from you. Am I correct in saying you are the only person to get a GTE to Pebble?
