Yes it is nice but I would prefer it to have more lines and character honoring the original M1 which is in the top 10 of my alltime favorite supercars.
Have you seen one in person? IMO, they look completely different in person. Much more squat; less tall.
Nice, but it wouldn't look like this if BMW built it. The weird crests and bulges and especially the 6 series style trunk lid are missing.
Discussed on Jalopnik in May '08. The picture background is from a Ford GT photoshoot. The car itself started out as an R8 with an M3 body stretched to fit. http://jalopnik.com/387022/new-bmw-m1-exists-only-in-imagination-land#comments
Doesn't have that nice beautiful shape of the M1. Looks like they tried to force a bunch of different designs into one and it turned out jumbled. Still looks mean though. By the time the car comes out it will sit two inches higher and the wheels will be battleshipped like they always are. When working for this company we'd stage cars for unveilings and photoshoots etc. We'd use sandbags to lower the car and wheels wider than the actual ones. When you look back on the original design the car always looked better than the real thing as the artist would draw the car with a proper stance. Same here with this mockup.
Looks Like a Frankenstein car......Rear of a 335....middle of an M6....Wheel Arches of an M3.....and Front of a Z4 M Buts its kinda works.....
It does make me wish for their seemingly-lost ingenuity and aptitude that they displayed when they created the 8-series. I had two different 8 coupes growing up (an M70 V12 in college, and an M73 V12 after graduation) and except for the Z8, they've never really had another Halo-car since then. The Ms all run together after a while i.m.o. I don't suspect we'll see another 8 for quite some time with this economy though.
