heard the same thing and heard the same thing about one of the places that people are swearing by, which someone really shouldn't and the reason I vouche for Forza is because I've seen the results of over 500 cars being brought in for various services. The owner Steve may be an absolute nutcase but there are very few mechanics like him who can diagnose an issue by holding a cell phone to an engine!
Perrrfect, start a sticky "Where Not To Take Your F-car" Very rarely do we hear the bad stories and often enough we hear the good experiences. Having something like this wide open on f-chat will surely make some shops think twice about how they conduct business. This will clearly seperate the good from the bad. Make it happen moderators!
What amazes me the most is how someone can spend way over 100gs for a complete body off resto and 4 years without the car, get it back, have dozens of things wrong and be told that there is no warranty whatsoever. This just boggles the mind.
Shemmer I was being "Sarcastic". I don't think that this forum is the place to start something like that. If it was I'm sure that people could rant and rave all day long about the stupidest things. besides how I get treated at one place is not necessarily how I would get treated at another.
sue!!! Also theres always going to be the one person who wasnt happy with their service and will let people know it which doesn't nessecarily mean its a bad shop...but then again i've heard LOTS and LOTS of stories about everyone mentioned in this thread, except for who i mentioned but that doesn't mean there aren't any...
Well it's only money, however, there are only so many f car owners who are for the most part business men like myself. You can shave the sheep many times but only skin once. Tony at Modena is not a business man, he is a short sighted grease monkey who happens to be a crook. He is a good mechanic, but if you trust him blindly you better bring a big vat of VASELINE because it will hurt alot less. If you are smart you will avoid that shop... I'm not the only one with that experience.
Agree - have seen him in action - no substitute for years of hands on experience starting from the Fiats/Alfa's when young and working up to the Ferrari's, Lambo's, etc. Ask him about engine design fault in the 430's he found a few years ago. There all coming in with them now. They can't keep up in there - the place is always packed.
For a bench mark # how much are these shops charging for a simple oil change and brake fluid/and bleeding all corners lets say for a 308/328/355....FoO quoted me about $750.
i know the oil change is about 350. I do it myself for about 100. Filters from ricambi 28. royal purple 5/40, 8 litres for approx 60. Brake fluid I don't know.
I only paid about $250 for my oil change this year. That includes 14 liters of oil (20W50 Valvoline Racing Oil) & Filter for my 308 (I have an external Dry Sump System which requires more oil). I also changed the brake fluid (taking it to the track) and that was $35 for the fluid and a half hour of labour ($60 to bleed the brakes on all 4 sides). Pretty reasonable if you ask me. As for FoO quoting $750, well somebody has to pay for that nice building....
Your right. More people should be spreading the word on the bummer shops. Every time we get together for a drive or meet somewhere for a coffee, there always seems to be a story on how someone got screwed royaly. It always seems to be the same places. Nowadays it costs a lot less to own one of these magnificant machines and many are buying what they once could not afford. So when they get screwed over, they are done and cannot afford to take such a hit. We need to let them know where to go and where NOT to go.
I agree 100% but the minute I say anything about anyone or a particular car I get a phone call from the person being spoken about or a bunch of emails from people telling me i'm crazy! just don't like to see people get screwed....
As much as i agree with you and James, there is a flip side to this. There are many owners that are in these cars for the small price to get in, but then have a stroke once they get a bill from a shop, because they bought a car based on price. So now you have a guy who cant afford the bill, or ask the shop to CUT corners, and then try and resale...in the end, the shop that did the work gets hammered because someone couldnt or wont fix it right. Sometimes its not the shop, its the OWNER of the car.
Agreed. But when the problem that was supposedly fixed happens to break again then its the shop not the owner. IE: if someone brings a car to a shop and has the heads done and then the car dies because the heads need redoing then I would think its the shops fault. BTW.... If the shop explains things before hand and during there should be no shock seeing the bill.
It seems unfair to slam a specific dealership or shop when it can't defend its reputation. There is usually more than one side to the story. As a policy its probably not a good idea to start trading stories or creating a list of places to avoid on Fchat. Let's keep the board clean. When I see those posts I ignore them because I don't know all of the circumstances, etc.
I know a horror of a story from both the owner of the car the shop that did the work and the SECOND shop that had to fix the first shop's work, let's just say he was billed iirc $30,000 and NOTHING was done! and this is a VERY VERY well known shop that people on here are constantly talking about...but then again some people just don't care what others have to say and will find out the hard way on their own... And I know for a fact that the owners/mechanics of these shops lurk and post on here so they could defend themselves if they really wanted to but it would only turn into a long long long thread with nothing getting resolved anyways...
Always 2 sides to a story...and the truth is not usually found. What is found though, dishonest business' dont last long term. We are all in business, how many people would bad mouth you James after all these yrs ? Im sure there are a few....im sure there are a few in every business...no such thing as 100% PERFECTION in satisfied customers in any business. If we talk about home renovations the percentage is even higher than that Its always buyer beware....if we had a sticky of bad shops i can asure you we would have nobody to fix our cars...and im includng our daily drivers too ...lol.... PS...only the guy who got taken for the 30K should tell the story, not you. We all have and heard a guy who knew a guy that got taken.
You are right about this and in the last year the story(s) have been about the same guys shop. Cant be a coinsidence when the same guy is being sued by a few different people.
What I find is that there are usually 3 sides to every story. There is one side, then there is the other side, and then finally there is THE TRUTH. Just today I saw the work of one of the shops in the city where the mechanic that did the work is no longer employed there. The guy did some crazy stuff on this 360. He ran one of the coolant hoses between the cam bearings and belt. Eventually it was cut and all the coolant leaked out of the car. The power steering pump was hanging on with one screw because all the others were stripped. The belt driving the pump was vibrating so much that it tore a hole in the plastic cover for the cam belts. The bearings were installed incorrectly and the belts ran on their sides. They will all need to be replaced (steering pump, bearing, belts, hoses). Probably about $5k or $6K of damage for work that was done just last year. Another pet peeve of mine is all these guys that drive around in these leased cars who don't service or take care of them. One 360 I was considering upgrading to had 5 previous owners in 6 years! The car was in bad shape and I wouldn't have taken it for free. Shooters lease them for the summer and then give them back or default on the payments and the leasing companies get left with all these cars in bad shape and are left on the hook for the service (which they don't do).
