While prepping my car for Coppa Bella Maccina at nationals, I bumped the ignition with the car in gear, the car started and moved 2 ft. into my tool chest. Long story short, I put a slit in my front bumper about 1/2" deep :( I have been searching for a NOS bumper but have had no luck. My question is does anyone have any experience with the referbished bumpers. Are they identical to the original or is a concours judge going to spot it right away. My only other alternative is used and invariably my definition of excellent used is different than the seller! I'm running out of time.

    Thanks!

There's a thread somewhere on the repair kits, it comes out nice.

I agree they are hard to find for some reason, I know of two, they are in DENMARK!!!!

I'm assuming you need the North American version, with the jagged lower edge into the grill......

Correct, 84 US QV. I'm going to search for the repair kit. That is a preferable alternative.

Shipping from Europe is going to pricey as they are HEAVY...but I need one also.

First project 'over there' if one of our cars returns is to get them off....but here in Texas anything I tangle with is gonna be BIG....

Good luck it'll be fine, try to find the thread you do have to paint the whole thing, IIRC.....flex additive and all that...

Mine cracked open a couple years back from rust under it. I called Rutlands and they had them but one popped up on eBay within a week. Unbelievable. I won it and paid about $400. I NEVER get that lucky.

Anyway, if you HAVE to buy another, Rutlands can help.

I hope you can fix yours, though

I'd like your old one, I'd see about getting a mold pulled from it for "North American fiberglass repros"....I think there's a market.....LOL!

These bumpers are not painted. Any attempt even with the correct flex agent will be immediately noticed. The refurbished bumpers are injection molded urethane over the original core. They are done correctly but may not have the original "patina" (quoting Jay Leno!). I say may because I don't know. The fix I found doing a search is for a painted bumper. I'm cursed with being a purist! I have just days to figure this out. I placed a "wanted" add on FerariAds but will shamelessly plead here for contact with anyone who might have a suitable replacement! Thanks for your help Tommy and Tex!

Contact jth5610, in Denmark........have him send you his....

Then you send me one of the repros, that'll be fine.......

Then I'll take my fibreglass Euro one off and send it to jth5610, in Denmark....

    Everybody's happy!! LOL!

Yea, Dr. Tommy.....my last purchase had a Euro on it and I had a bad feeling about the level of protection it offered.

Sure enough, before I could get a North American version mounted, a neighbor rode up the hood and f&%*(%&%& ed up the whole front clip. So those of you swaping or "pushing them in to look cool" might want to consider my sad story...

On the upside, the guy was from out of the country and his insurance paid off thousands $$$$$$$ :D :D :D

BillyD, you have a PM. Big Tex, if I didn't have the US bumper on the damage would have been MUCH worse!

Bert, looks like you found YOUR bumper! LOL!

Play one thru, brudda....I'm buying wheels and luggage sets!! LOL!

It's not a Euro we need, the North American shape is different and matches cut outs in the grill below.....someone put I Euro on mine and a neighbor drove right up the hood, past it......

Not to hijack the thread, but BillyD, did you also put in a euro grille? If yes, where did you source it? Thanks for the help.

You'd have to or you have two big holes in the top bar, the verticals are bent around the "push block" shape as well...

I made molds from my Euro bumper and made new one for my US car. US bumper are HEAVY 18kg's to compare 2,4kg's that I made, here is some pictures:

I'm not comfortable to think anyone actually using bumper Euro or US, if you look the chassi you know why, hit it hard and you have bend chassi.

Btw here is -77 US car:

I DO have my eye on it! I just spoke with a high end body/restoration shop locally who claims they can easily repair the cut in my original. This is a shop that worked on the "Dubonnet" 250 GT. They said they have fixed "many".

It's your Tex! Pictures looked good! I dropped mine off last night at the body shop. They are telling me it will come back perfect and by the end of the week. At this point, time is of the essence for me! I'll post pictures of the repair as this might be and option for others as well. I will state though that except for the cut, my bumper was excellent.

Glad to hear this, we really do need to get a handle on touch ups...

They fix/plastic weld the modern flexible painted bumpers all the time....

They used to recycle the metal chromed ones as well. I must have used seven or eight of them on my 1967 Pontiac Firebird, learning how to drive....:D :D :D

I'll probably get the one from Denmark as well, as it includes the clock....LOL!
