ouch! Paul Tracy, a bitter rival during Sebastien Bourdais' successful prior career in the United States, has said he is "not surprised" Toro Rosso fired the Frenchman half-way into his second formula one season. "The guy was a misery even when he had the best car and was winning everything, so I guess he's been pretty unbearable this last 18 months," the Canadian wrote in his racer.com blog. http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090720233750.shtml
Brendon Hartley has insisted that he harbours no resentment towards former Carlin Motorsport team-mate Jaime Alguersuari after the Spaniard was handed the chance to make his Formula One debut at this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. The Kiwi had been the Red Bull squad's officially nominated reserve and test driver until the British Grand Prix, when the job was turned over to Alguersuari in a move that many saw as precipitating that reigning British F3 champion's ascent to the top flight. Although it took another round for the point to be proved, Alguersuari will replace the lacklustre Sebastien Bourdais at Red Bull's 'second' team, Scuderia Toro Rosso, in Budapest from Friday, while Hartley remains trying to run parallel F3 Euroseries and World Series by Renault programmes. "I knew some time ago that Alguersuari would get the Toro Rosso drive, and I have to say that, when I first heard the news, I was obviously disappointed," Hartley told TVNZ on Monday night, "But, in fact, I think, for me, it would be really the wrong decision to be driving in F1 right now." The 19-year old admits that there may have been commercial reasons for Alguersuari being selected ahead of him - and ahead of more seasoned competitors such as Takuma Sato and Bruno Senna, both of whom tested with STR earlier this year - but insists that his own form does not necessarily warrant an F1 opportunity. He also admits that he asked to step back from the reserve role to both Red Bull F1 teams because he felt he was 'too stretched, mentally and physically' as he attempted to combine three categories in one season. "There's a lot of reasons why I am not there - there is a lot of politics, and money and sponsorship goes a long way when you are trying to get a seat [in F1]," he pointed out, "But, at the same time, the racing season has not been going well for me for many reasons, [with] a lot of car issues and some mistakes as well. "To be an F1 reserve driver was ahead of my goals and, while it was nice to be there, in the end we made a decision [that] it was too much. I needed to do a bit less and concentrate on getting results. I didn't really expect to be the driver to replace Bourdais and I don't feel that I deserve to be an F1 driver just yet. "If I was put there, okay, it would be nice and exciting, but I have to [remind] myself what everyone else is going to say if I didn't really deserve to be there [on merit]. My racing year hasn't gone well, but I'm still working very hard, I have been fastest during races but nothing has come together and I have had lots of problems. I'm trying hard to put it right in the second half of the season and need a bit of luck on my side." Hartley revealed that Red Bull had 'kept him in the loop' regarding its plans to replace Bourdais, and have since told him that 'if I do a good job, the opportunity will come to be there', but denied that he would seek to fill Alguersuari's place by returning to the reserve driver role. "It's more important I get some results and prove myself," he stressed. The Kiwi currently lies 18th in the World Series by Renault with ten points from ten races after inking a late deal with former team champion Tech 1 Racing, and eleventh in the F3 Euroseries with eight points after eight races with Carlin. Alguersuari hopes to continue his WSbR campaign with Carlin alongside his new F1 commitments. The Spaniard is eighth overall. http://www.crash.net/f1/news/150069/1/hartley_disappointed_but_not_bitter_at_str_miss.html
Well ferrarifixator doesn't like him, but I guess some do.......... Red Bull Racing has confirmed Mark Webber for another year: the Australian driver will therefore line up again with Sebastien Vettel to defend the team's colours during the 2010 championship, adding a season to his original two-year deal with Red Bull. 32-year-old Webber signed his maiden Formula One victory at the German Grand Prix two weeks ago, his fifth appearance on the podium out of nine races held so far this year. "I'm extremely happy that Red Bull and I have been able to agree to race together again next year," he declared. "Even in the leaner and tougher years at the start of my relationship with the team, I've always enjoyed working with them, so now to go through this purple patch, which we hope will continue for a good while to come, makes the work even more enjoyable." Webber is currently third in the drivers' standings, very close to second-placed Vettel, with Red Bull second in the manufacturers' rankings. "We've got a very exciting finish to this year's Championship, but I'm also looking forward to helping to develop and race the RB6 in the 2010 World Championship," Webber stated. Team Principal Christian Horner is also obviously satisfied in holding on to Webber's services: "I'm delighted that we have re-signed Mark for 2010. He has continued to show huge commitment and determination this season, especially following his bike accident at the end of last year." Webber's podium tally follows a determined recovery: a head-on collision between his bike and a car last November left him with a badly broken leg and a heavily injured shoulder. The Australian will have additional surgery on his right leg following this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. "His recent results show he is on the form of his life most notably with his recent win at the German GP and he has the motivation to deliver at the highest level," Horner said. "It was therefore a straightforward decision to extend the relationship." "We believe that the driver line-up of Mark and Sebastian is one of the strongest in the sport," Horner concluded. interesting rumour Senna to STR or Brawn next year particularly if Barrichello chucks his toys out of the pram again in public
what the hell? Maybe I should make an announcement too "I'm thinking of driving for an F1 team at the end of this year. I don't know if I will though. I also don't know if I will next year either, but probably not because I want to do something else" Sebastien Loeb has admitted it is possible he will make a one-off formula one appearance for Toro Rosso at the season-ending Abu Dhabi grand prix. The multiple world rally champion, who still drives in the WRC for Citroen, was recently linked with Sebastien Bourdais' Toro Rosso cockpit. Jaime Alguersuari ultimately landed the vacant seat while Loeb, 35, and Citroen played down the F1 rumours. But now the Frenchman has admitted the possibility of a one-off race with the Faenza based team in November's season finale, even if he rules out a full-time switch to F1 for 2010. "If I do Abu Dhabi -- and at the moment nothing is done for this -- it would be too late in the season for me to change my mind for next year," Loeb said. "I'm sure (in November) I will have signed for Citroen next year and I would have already begun testing for the WRC," he is quoted as saying by Britain's Daily Telegraph. "I am keen to sign a contract with Citroen and that is the only negotiation that I am having at the moment. It would be a pleasure to drive in F1, but I don't know if I am able to do that or not." Loeb clarified that his plans for 2010 involve rallying "and not F1". Source: GMM
‘Heimi Al-gay-shuari’. And in 4 hours time we'll all see if a british F3 champ can make it around an unknown track in a F1 car in company with the entire F1 field. First time he's driven it other than in a straight line. ps: That's not a dig at his name. Its his first answer quoted from this morning's press conference.
