Given the re-designed door-opener, I think that the 288 door is more akin to the 328, also reflected in the inner door-handle treatment.
It appears that the profile for the air-intake in the door is the same for all, and was only changed for the F40, which had different doors altogether.
I must have a drawing somewhere identifying the different materials used on the 288 body and their relative location which I can look up if there is interest (I'd be surprised if it hasn't been posted yet in this thread)

Christian.Fr: Thanks so much for sending the CD, which I received today for the book!

I just noticed the gauge in top of the dashboard in this image. That's the Swiss car (signed by Schumacher et al) correct?

I have been at SPA for the last week (thats another story) and on Monday as i was leaving the RMA track day burst into life.. had a quick wonder around and was delighted to see this.... i believe ( or i am informed by a Belgian journo friend ) that Tim Samways has something to do with this car... apparently chassis number 2...

Body materials identification in the attachment. I've seen the same drawing published many times when new in 1984, so expect it was included in the press-pack.

    Blue is fiberglass
    Yellow is fiberglass & nomex
    Pink is kevlar and nomex

Looking at it again I am actually quite surprised at the amount of fiberglass used in the production car!

I always thought, they could have build the whole body in fiberglass, they just added the nomex and kevlar for bragging rights, to distinguish it from more ordinary cars like Corvette and TVR.
Or is there a technical reason to use kevlar for a simple front hood and does the Nomex make the roof stronger, I suppose there is a metal frame underneath?

I always thought that the doors are made of aluminium?
Because a friend had a ding in his door and you couldn't buckle the door as a normal one because the aluminium is so felxible?
Is this graph from Ferrari and are the names right with the colors?

This copy was scanned from the first edition of Ferrarissima, but I have seen the same picture published in other publications at the time, hence my remark that it was probably included in the press kit of the GTO. I'd be surprised if nobody could confirm that here.

Then your friend likely has a replacement door of sorts.

The ENTIRE bodywork is composite material as f308jack has clarified.

    Joe,

I never clarified anything, I just conveyed a message as it was presented to me.

I am wondering about the choice of materials though, as I'd think that in 1984 there would be materials more sophisticated available than glass fibre.
OTOH, the choice there may be beneficial to repair any damge, as it is available to all.

    Nevertheless, she's just sooooooooooo beautiful!

Is this modeled from digitized data from a real car?

Yes understood, I have the same illustration as identified by the factory itself in the press package and thats what I meant by 'clarification'.

I think its hard to find another thing on the road thats as beautiful. There are more stunning things, perhaps over-wrought in design, but this car is peerless in its simplistic beauty.

    Hi Joe!

Lovely pics, but have you not have the sensor behind the oilfilter moved? Was there not an upgrade for this?

    Regards

Caley: you are correct, I have not changed anything, but presently, it runs very well indeed.

Are you referring to the oil-line update kit?

    Looks very nice Joe!

Starting Tuesday morning I'll be working on Mike's GTO (and a little on his 275 GTB/4 as well)...probably about 20 hours and hundreds of photos over a 2 day period. I'll be sure to share photos accordingly! :)
