Not a radar detector comparison thread, but just had to say I sent my V1 into Valentine's HQ last week and they had the unit turned around pronto. Repaired and calibrated my V1 in time to make a long high-speed trip to Santa Monica to Idaho.

Fantastic customer service,... they answer phones, answer questions, get it done and do what they say they will do.

Great experience! Just wish they would make laser shifters as I'd like to stay in the V1 family.

The radar sensitivity had diminished so I knew something wasn't right. I have three V1s and have sent them in for software updates but this was a first to have a hardware component issue resolved. Fixed and working perfectly!

I hit so many radar traps on my 1,000 mile trip from SoCal to Idaho I think I got a tan from all the microwaves. Utah is especially challenging as they use unmarked Dodge Ram pickup trucks, Chargers and saw a Mustang with Cobra stripes that had 4 vehicles pulled over in a single stop. The revenue machine is operating in full force. Interesting, there are some stretches of I-15 in utah where they are testing an 80mph speed limit. :)

I bought my V1 about 6 years ago, and absolutely love it. Within the last six months or so, I went to their website and entered my unit's serial no. as I thought I'd probably be due for an update. They said that my unit still has all the latest "stuff", however.

I had Cali-plates, on a 3 year old BMW in early 70's......but going to UofI, Moscow [go Vandals]....and, well, they were more perplexed by the BMW 1600, than Cali
    plates.

shoot, come to think of it, so were the Californians about the BMW

I just had 2 in last week, shipped on Wed, rec'd Fri PM at V1, in my hands Wednesday. One was upgrade, one was hardware/heat issue. Upgrade had newest software, repair moved up 2 levels of software. I used to sell them after 3 years and buy new, took $150 hit. Now you can get upgrades for less (went from 85->130 in 2 years though). We have 6 now, hardwired into keyed hots. Worth every damn dime. Not that I ever speed.

I was just looking at getting a V1, saw it on craigslist. Are these registered to the people that buy them? I was thinking about getting it but don't know if I can have it upgraded or not since I'm not the original owner. A friend bought a portable nav system on CL and got screwed cause he couldn't update the software cause its not registered to him. I didn't want that to happen if I bought the V1 but I don't know how that works.
Also its the 1.8 and hes selling for 260 obo. He doesn't say it has been upgraded. How much do the upgrades cost? Also I read that (I think this model) gives off a lot of false signals, is this true?
Sorry to jack the thread, I didn't want to start a new one for a few questions.
