While researching these cars.. and deciding what to trade the m3 in for.. I keep coming back to them.. they seem to be a good daily driver car to compliment the 360.. but not only that.. I am in SHOCK at how cheap some of them are for sale.. there is one with 50k miles asking 36k, another with 19k miles asking 41k.. What confuses me though is the prices seem a bit unstable.. many of them are still 50-70k, is there anything wrong inparticular with the ones that are below 45k asking? anyone else in shock at how cheap these are? these are 110k cars when new.. and only 3 years later have lost 70% of value? what am I missing.. I am considering other cars as a DD, 550, aston martin v8/db9.. but the fact that I can acquire a gransport for 50k or less is hard to pass up.. considering it's got good performance and is arguably just as exotic as the other cars I am mentioning.. what am I missing?
I too have been watching the market, and I think there is a big difference in asking prices and sale prices. It also seems like in the last couple of weeks, prices are getting lower. Maybe because these cars will be another year old shortly.
So Jennie and I got ours last summer. Asking prices were $60-85k. Besides ours being a 2005 and not 2006 I don't think anything that would make it less than a top end car. Bought it from an official dealer, 1 owner, 8k miles, and 1 year left on warranty. We paid $58k. So I think that was close to top end LAST summer. Maybe a 2006 would do $60's. So from there to this year I think they've come down 10-15%, depreciation has slowed though. The big hit was 2007 to mid-2008.
Well I made a bid on some cars.. One is asking 55k for 06 and 12knmilew.. I can't seem to get them below 52k however then I see some 05 cars That seem to be asking 40 to 50 I suppose I will see what they will bring... Shocking to see an 05 granspprt go in the 30 s.. Yet very similar cars are going for 10 or 20k more...
As an owner of 3 Maserati's including a 03 coupe, I have driven 3 GS's and my assistant has a GS, I can tell you that they are great cars, though the CC tranny can be a pain in traffic, it is not as good as the 360, and for some reason everyone one I have driven seems to be very different. Algar found a DB9 for a friend of mine recently, it might be a better choice for a daily driver, and they can be bought fairly cheap.
that's all because of miles, there are so many that are low miles that the high ones stand out. If they had regular service and clutch is strong, then that would be a great value. services aren't expensive on the GranSport, but the clutch job will cost what us Ferrari owners are use to for the major.

that's the problem Rob, they seem to be at 52k and not willing to move an ounce.. I was expecting to get it for 48k or so.. I'll pay the 52k but I just wanted to know if that is a fair price or not.
I think 52k is slightly high, but I think they can sell it at that. It is close enough and not everyone is as informed as us. High 40's would be a deal.
That is pretty high, definitely in ferrari territory.. I thought the major on the gransports was less involved since it has no belt to service? the clutch alone is how much? my guess is 3-4k.. I cannot imagine it could be worse than that.
With a new flywheel, bearings, clutch, it can be close to $5K. It takes 13-14 hours to change the clutch. Less, if the flywheel can be reused. There really aren't "majors" on the car. Unless one considers replacing the air filter and spark plugs as a major at ~30K The service schedule is similar to...the Germans. The initial 6k, then ~12.5K thereafter. Dealer quoted me $1800 for the 6K and all fluid change (two-year due). If buying used, first item after the oil change (or maybe before) is to get the transaxle fluid replaced. Maserati says ~30K miles or two years. Maserati community says once a year. When I changed mine - I am the original owner - the fluid had the consistency of water.
Modern Maseratis, like Ferraris including the 430 and after, don't have "major" services. I pay around $1,500 for an annual fluid flush/filters/et al. As noted above, $5K is a pretty standard charge for parts and labor on a clutch/flywheel/TO bearing change. It should be noted that the flywheels are not flat so very few, if any, shops can properly resurface them.
Well I'm considering selling my '06 Gransport (pictured). It has 6,500 mi and just went through 6,000 mi service. True prices have come down, but such is the case for many exotics (e.g., 430s can be had for $140K). Important thing is find out how much clutch life is left (for example, I'm at 70%). Well maintained? Garaged? Tracked? The usual things to look into. I'd say most G'sport owners fall into one of two categories: those that have sufficient disposeable income and purchased them as daily drivers (evidenced by higher mileage; other car may be a high-end exotic, RR, Bentley, etc.), and those who perhaps 'stretched' to enter into the exotic market. The 'stretchers' will have much lower mileage, and are probably maintained better. I'm probably a good example of a 'stretcher'. I have a Nissan Xterra as my daily driver, which I beat the crap out of. It goes to the local car wash maybe 3 times a year, and to Jiffy Lube for oil changes. My G'Sport however is pampered. Only washed by hand, waxed once or twice a year, stays covered in my garage, is attached to a battery conditioner, and only gets driven during nice, sunny days, usually when we go out to dinner or if I drive with the local Ferrari Club. I'm even paranoid about the surfaces I drive on. For me, this is my $400K exotic. I'd be willing to bet that G'Sport daily drivers, are well, much more beat up. This obviously gets factored into the asking/selling price. Just something to consider... -Don Image Unavailable, Please Login
$52 for a nice GS...with plenty of life left on the clutch is a great price. Probably around a year left on the factory warranty as well! In the past 60 days I have read of 2 new GS owners who paid in the $60s. With that said one was a very rare edition (dont recall the name), the other was a very cool color that made it very unique. Now that I am thinking about it there was another recent sale of a 06 GS spyder for nearly $70k. I am not one to suggest that prices have firmed up but, there has not been any sort of unusual drop like other 'exotics' i.e. F-Cars and Lambos etc. It seems that a good GS that has been well loved will be the the $40s/ $50s for at least another 12 months.... Clutches. A non-dealer can do the work (all in for around $3k).
