I am doing a two week road trip from Northern California , through Oregon and Washington to Vancouver, BC, ... then back down to Monterey. Could FC members recommend any Service Techs/Shops I could contact in case I happen to be in need of road side service? I believe the 355 is mechanically prepared as it just recently had it's 30M Engine out service done. I just want to have an extra dose of preparedness by having a reference list to call should the unexpected happen. Names and contact phone numbers would be helpful.

Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo and Ferrari of Seattle come to mind. And I believe there is a dealer in Vancouver, BC. I don't think there is much in southern Oregon, unfortunately.

I would take Carlo's number: Alfa of Tacoma 253-572-2532. He is a very experienced Ferrari mechanic; honest and does great work.

Plus a bezillion. Carlo has forgotten more about older F cars than most know. Why else would people send him cars and engines from all over the planet? :):) That's why we call him Pope Carlo. :)

Thanks so much to all who have responded with recommendations. I have made notes on all of them.
Jedi, Your suggestion for Cars and Pasta @ Joeseppi's on the 2nd of Aug. may just work into the schedule. We'll be in Seattle but isn't it a relatively short 45 minute or so drive down to Tacoma? Is this an exclusive Ferrari only event? I have a friend who is also doing the road trip with me and he's driving an Aston Martin. Would an English marque be welcome?

Absolutely! Just do a Mapquest to: 2207 North Pearl Street, Tacoma. And yes, it would be 45 minutes
or less from Seattle (on a Sunday morning - NOT a rainy Friday evening at 5:30 PM!!)

Would love to see you there.... should be lots of 'fun' cars. But no black (dark blue?) Lambos, thanks to Mordalo :(

Well, the adventure has begun. I went to the Matson terminal in Oakland to pickup my 355(shipped from Hawaii). It was covered in a layer of encrusted dirt/dust, the rims were stained and spotted by some sort of hard water residue or salt water residue and the best of all ...... some dimwit of a dock worker decided the best place to scotch tape a sign on how to start the car was to the leather dash. Naturally, after sitting in the sun and heat, upon removing the tape the sticky adhesive remained on the leather surface. I insisted the car be hand washed prior to signing off on the walk around inspection ..... no new dents or scratches. The rims will just need a lot more elbow grease to restore their luster. Matson's claims official and I agreed that the only proper facility to attempt the removal of the tape adhesive without damaging the leather under surface would be a Ferrari dealership. I drove over to Ferrari of San Francisco's Service Facility in San Rafael and asked if they could help me out. Gino Potter, their Service Manager, promptly responded by taking a look at the damaged surface and had his facility's detail shop tech take the vehicle back to the shop area to "work on it". Fifteen minutes later the car was back, adhesive residue removed, leather conditioner applied, ..... and a refusal to bill or charge for their work!! I must compliment Gino's representation of the dealership and his willingness to assist a "Ferrarista" in distress. Gino definitely put a positive spin on a day that started out in misery.

These road trips always yield memories that will remain with a person for their life time. I am positive the memories to come will all be better than what I just experienced ..... they can hardly get any worse. I will definitely make every effort to do the Portland Cars & Coffee on Saturday and Joseppi's on Sunday in Tacoma. I'm catching the NHRA Nationals at Infineon/Sonoma this weekend, then start the drive up the coast on Monday. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions for service facilities. Looking forward to meeting more Ferrari Chat folks in person.

Yes call Kelly (service manager at RTGT) before you go and he will give you his cell phone #. On the weekends he has helped myself and my friends many times. Answers his phone, drops everything and comes himself or lines up a tow truck for safe transport

My wife, baby, and I just did that drive last week- in a BMW, not the Ferrari, as we don't all fit in it. Are you going up 101??? It's a fantastic drive; I think my wife got sick of me saying "if only we were in the Ferrari...."

    Have fun!!

"etip" .... Yes, we're following 101 for most of the way, until we need to cut inland to hit the "big cities". Fortunately, my wife and I are at the opposite end of the life spectrum with an empty nest. Instead of having to worry about kids on the trip, we now have to worry about not packing along too much since the Ferrari's luggage capacity is limited at best.

"jdubbya" ... Sorry to say my car is not "new". I did purchase it new from Ron Tonkin back in '96 but she's an old lady now with 17M "Hawaiian Island miles" on the odometer. She's not a show queen but has road and track day "patina" from normal use. I'm not reserved about putting miles on the odometer. Last summer I put nearly 5000 miles on my Superformance Daytona Coupe, driving from Northern California up to Reno, NV, then down to LA, then following Route 66 over to Tulsa,OK ... and back, with "meanderings" in between. Two summers ago I put about 3500 miles on my CAV GT40 driving from Northern California over to Utah's Miller Motorsports Park ... and back, with "meanderings" in between. I believe our toys were conceived to be driven.

Hope to meet you guys in a couple of weeks.

Glad to hear the 355 is a "driver" and not a "garage queen"....I'm closing on 52k on my car...still looks and drives wonderfully.

Sorry, my misunderstanding. When you talked about picking the car up I assumed it was "new" to you! I do agree with you about driving them though. My 308 has almost 104,000 mile on it, 14K since I've owned it.

I too have had nothing but wonderful experiences at FoSF, in a simlar situation. In fact, I've had exactly the same kind of reception at every Ferrari dealership I've dropped into all across the country.

I highly recomend both Ron Tonkin, and Ferrari of Seattle, preferring Ferrari of Seattle over all others if for no other reason than they've been my dealer and supplier of my biennial fix for years. But more to the poiont, they have bailed me and my cars out of situations no matter the time of day, location or nature of the situation. They are truly the best, in my opinion. But you can hardly go wrong with any of the recommendations you've gotten here.

Have a great trip! and enjoy the drive!!!
