    What were they testing exactly?

    It looks like the same tilton clutch I have for my 308. It work excellent, honda civic light clutch pedal and will handle 800 ft-lb torque. The down side is just the clutch was $3500, the hole set upfrom tilton runs about $5500. I ran it on a stock flywheel for a couple years but will have it on an ultalight flywheel when the new engine goes in next year. The clutch weighs about 6.5 lbs, my flywheel/clutch/ring gear about 17 total.

    Do you also changed the input shaft? Is it a single or dual disc , two mass flywheel or solid?

    That engine sounds really healthy, what a great sound! But I guess that clutch wont work on the F1... or will it?

    I love the idea, and would be interested for sure.

    Questions:

    Is the 348/355 engine in need of harmonic damping?
    Does the OE flywheel provide this?
    If so, I wonder what long term effect of not having any damping will be.

    or..

    Is the grease-filled FW simply there to balance the mass of the flywheel.

    Upgrade specs:
    Does the upgrade disc use a sprung hub?
    Carbon vs Kevlar friction surface?
    Marcel spring?

    Has this solid flywheel design been tested on a street 355? I ran a solid homemade flywheel on my 348 racecar with no issues. Another fchater ran a similar modified flywheel and says it makes noise. The utube video is on a 355c which has a loud exhaust like my 348 racecar. So...maybe this flywheel will make noise that streetcar guys won't like? It sure does look nice though and the lighter flywheel in the 348 did not effect its take off from a standing start but made a felt improvement out of turns under power.

    The EXEDY clutch for F355 made same pattern to 348 Competizione clutch system.

    Light weight flywheel is popular for a modified engine.
    The 348 Competizione clutch system is using single mass flywheel type, not like genuine dual mass type.
    The purpose of Grease-filled Flywheel (Dual mass Flywheel) is damping to fluctuation of engine for absorbing noise and vibration from transmission or differential gear as well as protection for transmission and differential gear from shock torque at hard engagement.
    However race purpose flywheel is made at single mass for light weight , because quick engine response.

    The hub will be unsprung., however this kit adopts the carbon disc.
    The carbon disc makes a soft engagement feeling when together with the steel plates. This soft feel will protect the transmission and differential gear from shock torque at hard engagement.
    And another merit of the carbon disc is the enhancement in the shift feeling. The friction surface will be carbon friction disc with steel pressure plate and intermediate plate.
    As for the Marcel spring (cushioning plate), there will not be one equipped on the clutch disc.
    However this clutch has cushion system in clutch cover.

    We check at street , gear noise come out at idling , however the reliability of the engine by exchange of a clutch system is not changed.

    I put a lightweight flywheel on one of my twin turbo 300zx's and it made all the difference in the world. Drifting one of my 300's next to the other, the lighter flywheel car revved up and dropped rpms back down substantially faster, plus put far more hp to the ground through the wheels.

    A very worthwhile mod that in my case made no idle noise difference. Lots of heavy parts in our 348 clutchpack could use a little lightening, too!

    Hi fatbillybob,

    When you modified your 348 flywheel, how difficult was the removal of the spider gear (with the female spline) for the rest of the flywheel.

    The reason I am asking, is that I plan to make my own light flywheel by:

    1) Disassembling the spider gear form the flywheel.
    2) Then drill 8 holes around the spider gear
    3) Machine an aluminum flywheel with a steel friction surface (like Fidanza).
    4) Assemble the aluminum flywheel to the spider gear using the 8 bolt holes
    5) Machine an aluminum cap to support the back of the spider gear and mate to the back hub bearing.

    I am hoping to shave about 10lbs for the assembly.

    This clutch system looks awesome. They have been working on it for a year and half. It is only available in Japan. The only thing stopping them from selling it is pricing. I would think pricing would be the easiest part of the process.

    I asked to EXEDY about the price matter, EXD is preparing the price of F355 clutch now.
    If this clutch sell all over the world, they will have to decide the price for several countries.
    Needless to say, they are considering the price for America now.
    This clutch will be scheduled go on sale in March.
