    ..that b61 sure LOOKS nice.......somehow I'll bet, given the fact you are doing your own work, that you will come out ok on your new purchase. How about letting us know what you have into the car when you finish the mechanicals??

    Or, the former owner was up to something rather naughty and had to take a powder. There has to be some sort of interesting story as to why the car was just left in a warehouse. You just don't do that to a Ferrari.

    Man, you are quickly on your way with this car! It is really fortunate that the car found its way to someone with mechanical skills. Once the car is all fixed up I am sure you will love it!
    I think Davehelms was putting together a complete silicone hose set for the car, I'd PM him to see if it is available.

    I pressure washed the entire engine while still in the car. Engine was pumping oil from somewhere in the front of the valve cover on cylinders 1-4. It was more than a drip as there would be a puddle of oil underneath the car after running it for a short time. The air conditioning compressor and alternator were soaked in oil and dirt. You could barely see the aluminum housings underneath all the gook. The timing pickups, located near the crankshaft pulley, were also covered in oil and dirt. Amazing what 5 gpm of hot water under pressure will clean.

    It sounds like whoever had this didn't bother to maintain it well. A bad oil leak left for a long time is a sign of an owner who doesn't care a whole lot about what he's driving or couldn't afford it. The oil and water leaks may have been what finally parked it.

    They next question is, was it overheated badly from the water leaks before it was parked......

    I'll admit.. I like your spunk on this project. Most impressive and fun to read. We're all rooting for you!

    That still does not explain why the window were left open. It is as if someone pulled up in it and walked away meaning to return shortly. I may be wrong but I would never leave my Ferrari sitting in my garage (or anywhere for that matter) with the windows done no matter how long I was going to be away. Maybe this guy didn't care about stuff like that. Any more details on the previous owner please? :D

    Makes me feel bad that I forgot to take a pic of my 348 up on four jack stands last night as I was checking the RPM sensor connectors. It looked cool up there anyway. :D

    When I first saw the car the obvious question was, “Why did you park it?”. The seller really didn’t give me a reason as to why. He kinda skirted the question. He did state that he couldn’t get the driver’s window to roll up, and I assumed that he tried to repair it, got frustrated, and this is why the left door side panel was removed and sitting inside on the seats. He’s the kind of guy that didn’t strike me as being very mechanical. And it is evident by looking at the wires that power the driver’s window that exit the door jamb area into the connector at the door. Two wires were cut. Actually they look pulled/jerked loose.

    After discovering the water leaks from the two ballooned radiator hoses, and the corroded/eaten through 10mm bung, I’m thinking that maybe this is what helped park the vehicle. When I opened the radiator cap upon first inspection, there wasn’t one drop inside the tank. I thought maybe it had been sitting so long it may have evaporated or something. No great cause for concern in my mind. Upon disassembly of the water outlet manifold connection duct, the one sensor, Table 23 No 26 on FerrParts 348 (2.7 Motronic), appears as though someone had tried to repair a leak at the threads as there was silicone all around the threads where it screws into the manifold. I don’t believe this came from the factory in this manner. I like to order a new one. Does someone have a cross/Bosch number for it? I can’t read the Bosch number on this one as it is damaged. Probably by the hack that tried to repair the leak. FerrParts has it listed as part # 104628, Table 23, No 26, on FerrParts 348 (2.7 Motronic) . The sensor was installed so tight that I had to heat up the manifold with an ox/acetylene torch just to remove it. None of the other sensors were that tight. Frankly, I’m not sure if this is the correct sensor. It doesn’t screw into the threads right. It’s way too tight. I think it might be a pipe thread on the sensor and a straight thread in the manifold? No, maybe not. After studying the picture of the sensor on FerrParts I can’t see a flat washer needed for this sensor. It must be a pipe thread. A new one would be cheap insurance and remove all doubt. The sensor checks out ok electrically. I put an ohm meter across it, heated the sensor up and the resistance went down, cooled it off and the resistance went up.

    Of course there is the oil leak at the front of the right side valve cover. Maybe this also contributed to the parking of the vehicle. Again, the oil was running out while the engine was running. It wasn’t just a drip. Maybe I made it worse by tearing/damaging a cam seal when I cranked the engine to start it after it had been sitting six years. I can’t imagine driving the vehicle with this kind of an oil leak. I don’t think you could keep enough oil in it to drive it very far. I haven’t removed the right side cams yet to check the condition of the seals.

    I pulled my first Aw ****! yesterday when I removed the 10mm bung from the water outlet manifold connection duct. I pressed out the bung. It was threaded. Snap! Oops! If I just would have taken 30 seconds to look at the bung from the back side I would have seen the threads and not screwed up. I was in too much of a hurry. I was lucky in the fact that the male threads on the bung snapped off, as it was so corroded, and remained inside the manifold female threads. I just unscrewed the male threads left behind in the manifold. The Ferrari Gods were watching over me this time. I won’t be this lucky next time.

    Great thread! Even if you did pay too much, look at all the fun you are having, and you are entertaining millions, too.

    With you doing all the labor, even if you did pay a little too much (I doubt you paid waaaay too much, right?), you'll come out ok.

    I have been watching this thread, and I can't understand why everyone wants to know how much you paid for this "barn find". This is the last thing I would have expected to read on this forum, guy's, your asking him a personal question, if the owner is not wanting to tell the world that information that is his choice.

    Looks like this car found the right owner, great work and I look forward to following along as this car is sorted and driven hard!

    The reason everyone wants to know the price of the car is because that would complete the mythical story about the "barn car". It has nothing to do with him personally. It has everything to do with the story of the car. This is a story that you want to tell other people. You want to tell them that you actually witnessed a real "barn car" find. Of course one of the first questions people will ask when you are telling the story is, "How much did he pay for it?". This is because as the legend goes, the farmer tells the guy that if he will haul the 356, '66 vette, Ferrari whatever, etc. away, he can have it for $500 or whatever. Now we know that he paid more than $500 for the car but the price is just part of the story. If the price is higher than hoped, it is not like people will tell him he screwed up. People just want to complete the last pieces of the story puzzle. He is having a blast working on the car and it looks like he is going to have it up and running well in no time. So do we really have to know the price of the car in order to appreciate this project? No, but it is just an itch that wants to be scratched. ;)
