Its hard to get used to the new prices. This car looks like a nice driver assuming all checks out. I know that a 330 GTC and Daytona are night and day. A part of me likes the 330 GTC as it is probably a more relaxing drive but the Daytona's styling and history are really something. When I think Daytona, I think of an icon. The 330 GTC is a totally different proposition, a gentleman's GT. Relaxaed, understated, and not a legend in its time. Ofcourse, all my thinking is based on books and magzines I have read....not actually driving the cars. Has there ever been a Daytona story where they don't mention it drives like a truck?

    Being sold by Tom S.

Looks like a good honest car.

    Regards,

    Art S.

PS. I suspect that books and tools can be had at additional cost ;)

The 330GTC is essentially a 275GTB with a different body and 300bhp engine which is a bit lazier - the undercarriage is identical. They are phenomenal to drive, if properly sorted. The term GT is a rather vague one, and the 330GTC is definitely on the sporty side of the definition. The car was very well regarded in its day (motoring legend Paul Frere called it the best roadgoing Ferrari ever made at the time), but because of its concept was never going to be a legend - too much competition from its own stable for that.

I like them rather better than Daytonas. But lose the wire wheels, makes the car look way too soft.

This car is a hell of a lot cheaper than the one I just bought 6 weeks ago and it looks like a reasonable example. Be prepared, though: if you want your car to be the best it can be then money goes out the door quickly (and I mean: VERY quickly). To sort out a 330GTC is the same cost as a $1 million alloy 275. This is why I chose to buy an expensive example that didn't need any work at all. And although you can replace books and tools, it's not the same as a car that has impeccable history.

    Best of luck,

    Onno

    Wow! Nice car, good price!

Onno, what have you got against wire wheels? I like them under a GTC. Probably the last Ferrari that could wear them as 'period correct'?
If there's no rust to cut out, it's half the battle won. There's nothing like a car with a healthy straight body. Everything else is bolted on.
At this level a GTC that you can jump into and enjoy is probably a good proposition.

Jack, I find the wire wheels to make the car too 'chromey'. Gives the car a bit of a tarty look. It just doesn't look nearly as good as the Campagnolos, particularly in real life. Apart from that, they are a pain to clean and they are also less suited to spirited driving.

But they are of course period correct. It's not the last Ferrari that can wear them as such, there was the 365GTC/GTS after that and I see a lot of Daytonas with wire wheels but I'm unsure if that was original.

I retired the Borranis from my own GTC and found a set of Campys to replace them. To me, the car has a better stance, a more aggressive look, and also seems to drive better with the alloys.

Love it, its best angle is 3/4 rear. I like it better than the 275GTB or Lusso.

I agree with Onno, it looks very dynamic somehow, ready to pounce.

Few cars have the perfect balance in their styling the GTC possesses.

As color choices are subjective I too think is wires vs alloys debate. Over the past years I have owned 2 different GTCs, 1 Queen, and 2 C/4s. In my opinion the Queen definitely looked better with wires. My current C/4 came with both new Borranis mounted plus a set of 5 mags. I immediately removed the wires. The more contemporary lines of the C/4 seems better suited to star mags than wires.

The GTCs..my first had the alloys. But I ultimately purchased a set of Borranis. To me the open headlights, gentle curves and overall classic lines of the GTC are highlighted by the addition of wires. Much like the jags and some other classics it just seems like a right fit IMHO.

    just one gearhead's opinion.....

Styling. I have not driven a Daytona so can't comment on the handling other than that I've never seen a 'truck-like' reference to a GTC, unlike the Daytona of course. All I can say is that I really love the handling of the GTC. It's lithe, agile and sporty.

I also like the fact that the GTC is a bit of an underdog. The Daytona is, [flame suit on], teensy bit of a cliche choice for a classic Ferrari. Just my honest opinion, naturally a lot of people won't agree and I would not ask them to. But I had the funds for a Daytona and chose the GTC.

My friend learned this expensive and painful lesson after having recently completed the restoration on his 1969 365 GTC. Not only did it end up costing 3 times than what expected, it took over 3 years to complete due delays caused by parts availability. If you are buying a car from a financial standpoint, it is a huge mistake not to buy the best car that you can afford.

I have driven both a 365 GTC and a Daytona. My experience behind the wheels of these cars leaves me with the impression that the 330/365 GTC is a much better car than the Daytona for U.S. roads. To me, the Daytona is more of a straight-line high speed "autobahn cruiser" as it can effortly cruise at triple digit speeds all day long. This is something you can't do in the U.S. and one obviously doesn't buy a Daytona because of nimble handling so IMO the fantasy of owning a Daytona is far better than the reality if you live in America.

Bidding is at $155k with 22 hours to go. With a final push this car shoud sell at a good price. It seems like good value and unlike an F430 it wont be worth $75k in five years........I think?

Nope. What I said was that I liked the rear of the 330GTC better than the 275GTB or the Lusso. Doesn't mean I don't like the rear of the GTB/GTL, just less than I do the GTC.

i live in america, 10 years ago bought the best daytona i could find..looked at the gtc liked it until i drove a daytona with engine rebuilt to comp specs( then the gtc seemed boring) if i want a nicely balanced car i would buy a bmw or merc...i bought the daytona because it wasn't a 'nicely balanced' car, it has too much engine, and heavy steering( at low speeds, at high speeds its perfect) i still love just sitting and looking at the car, like looking at a beautiful sexy women you never get tired of it..10 years later now, drove a lusso(glad i did not get one) drove a 365gtc( glad i didn't get it either) there is something about 6 webbers wearing velocity stacks, with p-6 cams , comp distributors, high compression pistons, and euro headers 'screaming' down the highway...if you have never owned or at least driven a dayton 'at speed' and i mean AT SPEED do you self a favor.. i still love mine and see why it is indeed an ICON..

Just saw this old thread and thought I'd chime in:

I have wanted a Daytona ever reading about it as a young teen in Road & Track. I've been shopping all year and seen 6-7 of them.
Yesterday at Fantasy Junction, I drove their very nice one, but then saw a lovely Blue 330 GTC parked outside.
Bruce let me take it for a ride and I have to say I had a conversion experience. The Daytonas are fabulous, and driving one is an 'event.'
However, the GTC just feels so much lighter and nimbler, while retaining great sights sounds and smells. I could see myself hopping in the GTC for a quick run to a friend's house on a Saturday afternoon, whereas the Daytona might make me feel like I needed to file a flight plan.

There are lots of other details that surprised me: the view over the hood of the GTC is very dramatic. Visibility is great, the cockpit feels very 'airy' esp with no headrests and all that glass. It has a much more 'vintage' feel than the 365.
The 365 is exudes the aura of serious machinery; all those carbs and cams, much higher quality suspension pieces eg control arms cast vs. stamped.

In an era where even my wife's little bmw 1 has the performance of a daytona, absolute speed just doesn't seem as important as all the other aesthetic inputs. Net net, I think I'm now looking for a 330GTC...

Those are some of the same reason I bought a 330GTC vs. a 365GTB/4 about five years ago, when prices were basically comparable. Now, given current market prices, I think the "value proposition" swings even more solidly to the GTC. I didn't want to make the financial commitment for the Ferrari I always wanted....a 275GTB....so there was never any question that it was going to be either a GTC or a Daytona.
I haven't regretted it for a moment, but either way you'd be getting a great car.

    Jack.
