They never cover F1, never and yet today they decided to post the winner of the Hungary race on their front page before it's even viewed in the US. The game isn't even televised until this afternoon on FOX so there's no way that anyone has watched it and ESPN already has the results on their main page. Ugh...

How about F&$# Fox for interrupting 2 hours of non-stop commercials with clips of the F1 race. I was enjoying those commercials!

The commentators were unbearable explaining for the 100th time what KERS is and what the graphics on the screen mean and what fuel strategies are. If it wasn't for the engine sounds, I would have muted the whole race. Dumbing down for the masses.

I guess there is another way of explaining why the announcers spent a lot of time explaining and reexplaining things that are basic to Formula 1 fans. It's because they are trying to educate the 'masses' to the sport. This is not a bad thing if we fans want to see a race return to the USA and be supported. This attitude is the same kind that permeates jazz afficanados. They grip about jazz players not being appreciated and getting financially rewarded properly, but as soon as someone has a hit that crosses genres and has monetary success the artist is labeled as having 'gone commercial' and is shunned by much of the jazz set. Dave Brubreck is a great example of this.

Why, you aren't suggesting that ABC did this intentionally to damage Fox's ratings, do you? Nah.... never happen.

Not just that thought, but ESPN was showing the NASCAR race from Indy, at the same time Fox had the F1 race. I am sure the smart guys at Fox figured the NASCAR folks would get bored and switch over to see F1.

Absolutely atrocious commentary happens in Europe also. I pull the commentary from the BBC radio for the audio portion, otherwise it's unbearable.
A no commentary broadcast would be even better, somewhat like commercial free 2x.

Was this on ESPN's website or was it on ESPN television? If on the web then you can't really blame them which is why I avoid the web like the plague if I am intending to watch a tape delayed event!

What's even worse about the FOX coverage is the intro they do. (In deep movie announcing voice) "Can Mark Webber win again!?!?! Win once and it gets easier to do it again! McLaren's Lewis Hamilton really wants to win! The first car across the finish line will win the race!" it makes my stomach churn.

Yes it was on the ESPN website. IIRC the last time they had any F1 headline on the main page was the $100M fine so I figured I was pretty safe checking out ESPN without ruining the race for me.

If the broadcast comes thru the Fox network then it has to be edited for someone who can't spell F1.

Yes they do - I was watching soccer last night...(lol)

F1 may be the best sport in the world in YOUR eyes, but unless it has MAJOR sponsor dollars
to put it on the air, *OR* they can put it on the air very cheaply, it ain't gonna happen.
And we know since Bernie owns the marketing and broadcast rights, it's NOT cheap, why
on earth do you think ESPN dropped F1 years ago?

I USED to think F1 was the best sport in the world, but not anymore, but hey - we all have
our likes and dislikes, none are any better or worse than the other.

I also find it hilarious that for all the whiners out here complaining about the broadcast crews,
with all the threads we have had on THAT subject, none of you can agree as to whom a great
    broadcast crew would consist of.

It was that, or the #1 MAJOR headline of 'the first black AMERICAN to win a Grand Prix race' when Lewis won in Canada, that one was a hoot.

Oh yes, you're 100% right. That made me just about puke. Like it is a Haloween movie or something. After a while it gets so annyoing you-start-to-think-the-guy-is-to-ta-lly-de-men-ted-how-he-pro-noun-ces-ev-e-ry-syl-la-ble.

    YUCK.

What do you mean? They cover NASCAR all the time! LOL. Unfortuneatly the US masses can only watch cars go in circles and vote for the same morons over and over. We'll see Obama for another 4 years I'm sure.

You know it's all Bush's fault right? ;)
