FYI Lexan engine bay screen can in fact be hinged upwards to access the engine bay without lifting the entire rear hood. This pic illustrates that facilitation. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Reaching the world record GTO gathering of 12 cars that came together 24 years ago in June 1985 at Zandvoort will mean getting together half of all the cars in America. No easy feat. Thanks again to all those helping and all those participating. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Just 24 cars in the USA ? i thought there would be a lot more , i saw my 10th different 288 GTO this year on sunday in the UK and i know of at least 10 more that i have seen or i know reside in the UK , how many do you think there currently are in the UK Mr Sackey ??
Stocky: Im not sure exactly how many cars are in the USA, but the process of finding them for the Reunion has affirmed that there are probably 23 to 27 cars. Im personally aware of 23, and maybe there are another 4 hidden here & there. I have to say that for the 288 GTO spotter, the United Kingdom is the land of milk and honey! At one point there were 47 (!) cars in the UK, and Id guess there are still around 40 cars there. I actually think there are more GTOs there than in Germany or Italy, so Im not surprised that you alone have spotted 10 of them.
Can I get in on that action aswell Joe? I have never been the same since I drove next to a 288GTO back in late '84 or early '85! LOL Gregg
We would really love to have one of the GTO Evoluziones at the Reunion. Planets would have to align for that to happen... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks. You've done it already. Your car, as with most of those known, will be featured... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Joe, Cover of your book looks great allready! Can't wait to see it published! I have found a few more pictures of a GTO in Germany. Was also at the Racing Days in 2008 (NUrburgring) These pictures are not included on the disk i have sent you. If you want them in Hi-Res just ask and i will e-mail them to you. Best, Maarten . Maarten: that is Zender's car, and thanks, I have some very good images of it. Here is an image of a 288 GTO driven by a lady negotiating the Grand Prix course at Monte Carlo... image by Martin Vincent Image Unavailable, Please Login
If anything they are a better fit at a F40 "reunion" if you ask me. Except for the name they are much more closely related to the F40 then the 288 GTO. Almost nothing is shared with the road car and they were basically test mules and prototypes for the F40. As I'm sure you know.
True, the car is a candidate at both Reunions, 288 GTO or F40. Remember though that some GTO Evoluzione's did in fact start life as a 288 GTO. Personally, I think of it as the Competizione version of the 288 GTO, just as I think of the F40 LM as the Competizione version of the F40, for example. Strictly speaking, thats the way it was, because the road-going 288 GTOs were simply built to get the pre-requisite 200 Homologation cars so that 20 Evoluziones could be built to satisfy FIA requirements for Group B Racing. So officially, the GTO Evoluzione is just as its name suggests.
