    I drive my cars daily and quite alot on weekends. I use the AC at all times as i prefer to keep my windows up, all my F-cars are Berlinettas. I would like to manually control the use of my AC fan (to save the fan). Such as shutting it off on the Highway when i am always at speed. Is this alright to do? Will a disabled AC fan cause any undo stress on the AC system or is it simply for assisted cooling.

    Your a/c won't blow as cool without it. You need the fan blowing on the condenser.

    I have a berlinetta, too. When using A/C, I run the fan initially, then usually have it off. I also end up turning down the coldness. Otherwise, I'd freeze in my 308. My daughter always reminds me she's too cold.

    probably not but why make more work for yourself? What happens if you pull off the highway and forget? There may be pressure build up issues without the air over the condenser.

    Why not just let the fans do their job? Sort of "set it and forget it".

    Honestly saving the fan is about like downshifting to slow to save the brake pads. You are putting more wear on more expensive items to replace.

    A new and better fan is about $100

    My 308's A/C is the coldest of any car i've ever owned. Such a shame as i never drive with the top on. On a 100 degree day in Florida i still crack the window to heat it up a little so my girlfriend doesn't complain about the cold.

    Are you guys talking about the same "fan"?

    My impression is that the OP is talking about the fan blowing air into the passenger cabin over the evaporator -- i.e., the evaporator fan -- not the condensor fan (which you couldn't disable on a 308 anyway since it doesn't have one).

    (Still, I'm with Tommy and think that just turning down the coldness knob is a better approach.)

    One of the reasons i asked........is i frequently will do 8 hour non stop runs (windows up ac on)........mostly to LV 2 Ca......or AZ to Ca., this is a common run for me, atleast 5x a month. My car has been modified to make high speed runs for prolonged periods through the desert, i have cooling, lighting and engine management "tweaks". I was just wondering about the true effectiveness of the AC fan when at speed, generally a 90mph average. Why run fans for 8/10 hours straight if not needed? I know engine cooling fans are not useful past idle in most cases. Just curious.
