    Hey guys

I need an information from you...

I´m replacing my CGT´s clutch and I need to know how much a clutch kit cost in the US. How much is it? I think I´m overpaying a LOT.. if anyone could help me.

    Thank you so much.

I read that the entire work, clutch and labor, should cost around 20k

About 1000 miles, it´s completely new, I bought it less than a month ago.. but the previous owner didn´t have a clue of how to drive it, so the clutch is gone.. I didn´t even had a chance to drive it yet, it has been on the Porsche maintenance facilities since then.. but they are charging me more than 10x this value you told me in our local money (1 Real = 1,90 USD). Something must be wrong..

At $250k for a new clutch, see if they'll throw in the rest of the car for free...

?????? Did you do a PPI with clutch measurement prior to purchase?? I would try to nix that deal or have them perform the new clutch installation as a condition of sale! Holy Smokes........1000 miles and the clutch is fried? Thats not right man.

Por esse valor, voce pode mandar o teu CGT em Miami, mudar a embreyagem la, tirar 2 semanas de ferias com o CGT nos EU e trazer ele devolta com bastante troco :).

E a Porsche Brasil que esta tentando te robar ?

Is the dealership sending you ransom notes ?
Seriously tell them to stop until you can get everything sorted out. Parts and labor costs broken down. Tell them you want to keep the old parts.
    Call Porsche Brazil.
    Something is definitely wrong.

This must be that pearl gold car that is worth 3 times the regular price of a CGT, therefore a stiff upcharge for the clutch...

Porsche Brasil consists of a dealer in Rio de Janeiro (it is located in Barra and has a 4 car showroom) and one in Sao Paulo.......not exactly what I would call a corporate sales organization with management channels and oversight that you could complain to.

Import duty is 100% in Brasil on most foreign items. So, just for parts you are looking at roughly $15K USD = R$30,000 x 2 = R$60,000

    RCV.....

Too bad this didn't happen a little later, I'd bring you a clutch kit from Canada as I am going back to Brasil in December.

I know the Custom boys in Rio very very well ! ! ;) I'm sure they cannot tell the difference between a clutch and a CF Dinner Plate!

That´s what I´m trying, now I have the US values for the clutch to explain them that this is just out of reality, they´re nuts. I mean, the car costs more than 2 million here and I still have to deal with 200k of unfair repairs? No way.

Sim, a de São Paulo (Nações Unidas).

Actually there are two dealers in São Paulo, 1 in Ribeirão Preto, 1 in Porto Alegre and another one in Curitiba, besides that Rio one. They´ve sold more than 1000 Cayennes in Brazil and a LOT of 911/Boxsters/Cayman. We have 5 997 GT2, 1 996 GT2, 5 997 GT3RS and 4 CGTs in Brazil, and more than 50 997 Turbos. It´s not that small.

Too bad indeed, but thank you so much for your kind support. Are you going to spend some vacations here?

It is shocking at first until you see the damn thing. If an F16 had a clutch, it would be very similar I'd imagine. :) That said, I would have much preferred something a bit more pedestrian.

As I’ve been snooping around a CGT for a while, I got clutch replacement figures this week from two dealers in the Bay Area:

    1. $32k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    2. $13k (about 30 miles from the first dealer), $9.7k parts, $2.3k labor

I assume the 2nd quote is for a refurbished clutch, but it’s still the cheapest I’ve seen.

The first dealership said they have only done a couple so their labor is way high. And, they’re charging full price for the parts. Dealer number two is offering almost wholesale on both.

Even $13k sucks, but it’s less than the $20k-25k I’ve been seeing on these boards. So, if you've been quoted $20k+, go down the street.

At $13k, you can have your CGT shipped to/from this dealership and still come out way ahead.

And $13k isn't that much over the mundane Murcielago, not a bad price at all for a Carrera GT. But why did Porsche went that route with the clutch so expensive?

do some reading on the clutch. It is very interesting. Off the top of my head it is 5.5 inches or so in diameter, multiple clutch plates all for a lower center of gravity and less reciprocating mass
