Hey that's why I used this one for mine. Note slight opposite lock to get her through that corner. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually the black top accentuates nicely the already strong rear haunches. Maybe we'll see it on the Scuderia equivalent.
The very purpose of a concept car is to set the stage for future "production" designs; http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=138838244&postcount=224 BTW, was Jason C. involved in the 458 design?
I'm not sure how much but will ask him. I read that Luca was hands on. Your comments and drawings were/are very interesting. Best
Jim: From all of us who have been waiting impatiently for Ferrari to allow Pininfarina to design a utterly beautiful Ferrari, a throw back to times when the car's shape was not just dictated by the size of a golf bag, we thank you. It is obvious that your special project the P4/5 inspired the 458. It is clear your car was the starting point of the 458. The front bonnet, the headlights, the front fenders, the rear fenders, all taken straight from the P4/5 design. I am thrilled. For all of those who wonder why it took so long for Ferrari to get re-inspired to building beautiful cars again, a look back at the old days holds the answer. Years ago firm's like Pininfarina had a free hand to build cars without a "committee," without compromises in design and beauty, without bean counters deciding we needed to modify it for fat men and women and a set of golf clubs. In the old days they were given a chassis and told to cloth it. That type of small boutique process is exactly what Jim did (at a great expense). I say Bravo to Ferrari for following it and Bravo to our F-Chat member, and my friend Jim Glickenhaus, for making it happen!!!! I firmly believe without his effort, time, expense, and passion he shared with Pininfarina, this car would not be nearly as beautiful.
Amazing work! The similarities are just uncanny for work done in 2006... Agreed! Also, congrats to you Jim for the influences in the new 458. They couldn't have used a better example to keep the bloodlines in the family. The Enzo - P4/5 lovechild. Already indexed in position 2 with part of your quotes in the description.
Thanks and thanks. Don't do this for the praise (I have a daytime job - playing around with airplanes and such) but just the fun of sharing the passion with other car aficionados. Here's another from 2006, the front obviously influenced by a certain car from that same year: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136093106&postcount=1035 In a sense, it's almost a re-birth for the P4/5 as it's thrust back into the spotlight - where it belongs. Congratulations indeed!
Jim (if I may, as we've never met), What about Andrea P., was he a big influence on the design direction of P4/5 or other cars? Thank you for your insight.
Andrea was very involved in and proud of P 4/5. He was a true friend. I think of him all the time but I especially thought of him when I saw the 458. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Too cool. I see a slight bit of 355 tail in the second sketch. Certainly not a bad thing! Very true. She's locked into automotive history, that much is certain!
