M. Schumacker is Back and It's Official

Well at least until Massa is back MS himself says his back. Not sure what this will do for Ferrari except maybe more winning.

I hardly believe this is true - but it was inevitable that it would quickly be the rumor of the day.

IMHO, Ferrari faces a lost season anyway, and this would be a great time to pick up a somewhat seasoned new guy from one of the off teams that has shown some promise, and start developing a new F-team driver. Yes, even if Massa is able to come back - consider the whole dynamic of that team, i.e. Kimi -

 

It has been confirmed, but we will see what happen next.

 

Really? With a good reference link? I think my F1 rumor immune system has been built up so strongly over the past 3 years that I am not sure the engines really have eight cylinders any more...

Thanks, and I am glad to see it really...although I don't want MS to get embarrased or hurt by this year's pitiful car.

Kimi can't be too pleased about this. I would love to see Schumi clean the clocks of the entire field. I think he can still do it. Would love to see him win...for Massa.

 

Lets say MS scores huge points. Who would get the WDC? Is it a Massa MS split? or points to Massa? or each guy is separate on points?

 

Whoever is driving the car gets the WDC Points. Button has 70 points and there are 7 races left so theoretically MS can win the Championship, but he would have to win every race and Button would have to score no more points these season!

 

Well it's official. It's on the official F1 site, the Official Ferrari site, etc. Frankly I think it is what F1 needs right now. Best wishes to Massa, I want to see him back, but having MS back is indeed awesome.

 

Driver points are individual. Team points are cumulative.

If Schumi wins all seven remaining races, he could total 70 points -- the same number of points Button has now.

He isn't *quite* mathematically out of the running yet: 70 vs 70 points, the WDC would go to the seven wins. But that's presuming Button scores no more points at all, that there are no Ferrari DNFs, and that the Ferrari pit crew don't make any mistakes.

As it stands, Michael is just supporting team points for the WCC ... as best he can.

While I have no end of respect for Schumi's mechanical precision behind the wheel, he just doesn't have the seat time with the F60, nor race experience with non-grooved slicks or KERS.

I'd guess that the driver able to get the most points out of the F60 this year would be Massa.
After that, Kimi. Then Schumi. It's not that Schumi isn't a great driver ... it's just that it's been a long time since he had to run a sub-peak chassis.
('05 and '06 were tire war differences, rather than the chassis.)

Due to the races Felipe is likely to miss, I'd guess that the points totals within the team would be Kimi first, then Felipe, then Schumi. With the F60 improving, Schumi might overtake Massa in points if he runs the rest of the season.
But Massa seems determined to return as soon as he possibly can.

And considering the astonishing improvement he's made in under a week, Felipe might just be back before the end of the year.
Back when I was just a bit older than Massa, I had a routine operation (which had some complications), and I was in the hospital for a week.
Felipe looks to be getting out of the hospital in just over a week after that horrendous crash.
Who says race drivers aren't athletes?

I just wish the car were more competitive. MS may be 7 time world champ but he will not be as sharp as when he quit driving before. Yes, he has spent some time in the seat but not in competition......

 

That's why he's been practicing quite a bit, It's like riding a bike, you'll never forget riding one.

 

But this is a bit like putting Lance Armstrong on a 1950's iron frame Schwinn.
