Hi guys, Recently I added another horse to the stable. Athought it's not here yet and will not be in another month or so i do like to share my story. Although living in Europe i was long tempted buying a Ferrari in the States. They are cheap there guys! But i found a nice 328 GTS in Germany last year so i was not looking any further. After arrival of the 328 the spark really hit me and just a few months later i bought another one, a 308QV GTS, which was at that time located in Japan. Why two? for me the only thing tht can beat a 3x8 is two 3x8's After again some exciting months of waiting it came and after some good polishing it was pretty! The last 12 months i drove, oke I did an engine out on the 328 and a major on the 308, but I mainly drove. Sometimes the Qv sometimes the 328 and sometimes, as a familything to a local meeting me and the wife drove one each, accompanied by our two sons. Just recently i bought another one, a carbed '78 model GTB. This one however is in really bad shape and will need lots of attention. I know, i know it's stupid to do and although i'm a DIY mechanic all my life, in the end it will cost me probably more that when i just bought a good one but this poor little thing just couldn't be left to die. Call me weak, call me stupid but the lady with all her curves did it again..
Never stupid to save a beautiful girl like that. Maybe financially risky, but definitely not stupid. PDG
Stupid! You should have bought my '78 308 GTS, which is in excellent condition!! Still no takers. Oh well. If I end up keeping her, so be it. But she'd be a great buy for someone looking for a nice 308 driver with not a lot of work to do on it. BTW, I fell for the same trap as you. So I've got the 308 and an '86 328 sitting in the garage. I forgot the old saying: "Be careful what you wish for, you may get it."
Considering the value of a 308 as a parts car I suspect you would have been stupid if you didn't buy the car. ;-)
I am still interested...but never "closed the loop" in getting up there to see the car. I also have some "house cleaning" to do, but I'd love to see it anyway. I'll try to set up time - my schedule has been hell of late.
Okay, "You are stupid"...... Just honoring your request (and kidding, of course )! Actually, you are not even close --- please allow me to enlighten you as to where the "stupid bar" is.... Many years ago, before I wised up and stepped up into Italian machinery, I simultaneously owned (3) Triumph TR6's and (2) Jaguar XJS's ------ Now that, my friend, is the very definition of S-T-U-P-I-D....... not to mention masochistic!! --- LOL
You can't have enough of a good thing. Reminded me of another buddy of mine, the dude has quite few Land Cruisers: One was at a shopped being professionally modified, 2 at his home, he ran out of space to store them so he rented someone's garage to store another cruiser, he had so many exotic parts imported from Japan and Australia. He finally custom built his home to have space to store a total of 7 cars and parts. Another buddy when I visited him he also got five cruisers around: couple cruisers rusted out in the backyard, one being parted out in the front yard,...It's not stupid but it's kind of obsessive.
Stupid? 99.99% of the worlds populous must not be stupid, because they do no not own what we do. Call me stupid, but I own one, and love it. Cheers, Dwight
You have a carbed GTB, a QV, and a 328? Just tell people you're doing illustrations for the next "definitive 3x8" book. Is a collector "stupid"? And a Monet is just "some dabs of paint that's only important to some very silly rich people".
I was fortunate enough to get my car from a collector like you, who knows his 3x8s and appreciates them, too.
stupid is as stupid does..... So you have one of each of the most desirable of the 3X8 series? Very nice! All that's missing is a single mirror TR and a carb Boxer and the set will be complete.
Guys for the support. At least now i know i'm not loosing my mind ( the money is another concern however...) BTW did i mention that the engine was stuck too?
Ummm, you didn't mention that! But it's ok, I'm sure your not in a hurry with the third car and you can drive the other two any time! I owned two MG's for about 10 years, a 1978 MG B and 1978 Midget. Was on my way to get a 1978 MG B GT but got lucky and was committed to the local insane asylum! Now I just play with my QV. Hey Finnerty, weren't you down the hall from me for a while? I seem to remember some Jag chatter a few doors down! LOL

Someone had to save Her ! It might as well be you . Any one of us would pick up a hurt puppy and nurse it back to health. These cars have souls and we must remember this as we grow old because someone is going to put us out to pasture some day and I want to be cared for when I get old and crusty. Carma people Carma.
Carma apples, Karma People Steve hope the rebuild or whatever on the engine goes well....looks to be a nice one to save.
Well done Steven. Living in Germany you have a very rare opportunity to enjoy giving it a bit, i.e. the Autobahn, I know they are not fun in a straight line but will still be a hoot having a go. I must also say I'm glad to see after 2 failed attempts you finally got a real 308, a GTB. "Now runs".
