Not quite sure what you're after, but...

Remember seeing an automotive show that covered an extremely high-end detailer in Britain who said that if he screwed up the paint on an MC12, it would probably cost around 35 grand to respray it right.

I have no idea if that's accurate, I'm just throwing it out there.

A good job, same color, with the usual prep at a good shop is gonna be about 10K.

Body off, full frame resto job? $20 - $25k minimum. I can't imagine a paint job
going too far beyond that. Mike, my bro-in-law (just called him to ask) certainly
hasn't done one. He was one of the guys that painted all the kooky Rolls Royces
for Bagwan Shree Ragneesh in the 80s who had over 100 of them, all painted in
outrageous colors. The photo below was one of his.

About 15-20 years ago, one of the car magazines (Car & Driver, maybe?) published an article with a title along the lines of "The $64,000 Paint Job." It was highlighting a small business/individual who takes cars completely apart and lovingly refinishes every inch to absolute perfection. The car/customer featured in the article was a black Testarossa.

I'd say he wins if you're talking paint job only.

More recently and a bit more down to Earth, a friend of mine bought a 308 a couple of years ago that had received a beautiful bare metal respray at a cost of around $16,000.

I saw an invoice a few years back for a 1950's Bentley that had a 25k paint job back in the late 1980's.

Keep in mind that a $10k bare metal full body respray, done right, will greatly exceed the quality of the initial factory paint job from Ferrari. Once paint jobs get up beyond about $15,000, you're probably just wasting your money.

That article was written in the 1980s. Hershel "Junior" Conway of Junior's House of Color in Bell Gardens, CA. http://www.hotrod.com/newsletter/hrdp_0611_junior_conway_barris_kustom_city_car_painter/index.html

I was quoted $13.5K six years ago for a complete bare metal job on my 330 2+2, not including undiscovered conditions needing forther repair.

2 yrs ago, I got a quote of $9K for a repaint/color change on my 308. This was not for a complete not bare-metal job, but next thing to it.

These both came out of high-quality, Ferrari-knowledgeable Dallas-vicinity shops.

With these two figures and considering inflation, etc, $15K for bare metal on a production Ferrari sounds about right.

These days, many owners are undoubtedly deferring new paint work. Might be a time to make a deal and help a shop owner keep the lights on.

I repo'd a 68 Corvette about 10 years ago because the owner hadn't made any payments on the $9K loan to repaint it.

I also recall an Aussie Fchatter recently paid around AU $15K for a bare metal respray on his 355. :):)
