Here is same seat saturated with Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil. I kept re-oiling seat twice a day for 6 days. I'm glad I purchased both the Rejuvinator Oil and Prestine Clean in the gallon quantity. That seat was mighty thirsty.

+1, there was an insane story (308 I think) of the metal coin that must have jumped off the road, got wedged between the gear and belt and caused it to fail. Owner did his own belt job and everyone jumped on him for 'doing something wrong' until he actually found the coin and it matched the belt damage perfectly. Moral to the story is yes use the belt covers! (even though his didn't help, still reduces risk).

The 308 story was that a highway token got kicked up through the observation hole and punched through the cambelt and thus detroyed a bunch of valves. One in a million Jerry!

Yes, it was a thread in the 308 section. Owner had just past a toll booth when his belt broke. He could not figure out why the belt snapped in a circular pattern. Coin was found later during engine removal and tear down and matched the tear perfectly. And keep in mind that the owner had his belt guards in place! Who would have ever thought?

308 Guards only cover the front, they are open on the back...

Rally cars in the '70s quickly learned to cover the belt a little better.

    Nice work on the seats!

Amazing story!! How did you find this car anyway if it was stored in this warehouse?? Also, did the owner own the warehouse (and the other cars in there)?

Good luck with this one! Keep up the good work, and congrats on giving this baby new life, and a loving home.

Passion, inspiration, education, thats what its about. Pursuit of a dream despite the adversity. I must agree that knowing the price only adds to the story but having the gumption to follow through on ones passion and getting value beyond what you envision (knowledge).....priceless. For me this dream is 40 years old and this thread gives me faith that one day it could happen. I figure in the 15-25 range is probably a safe bet.

I was able to purchase a used 355 front hub complete from FerrParts. Looked in remarkably good shape and identical to the 348. I did a little clean up and it was ready to install. I took one more look at it, but then decided to count the teeth on the outside circumference of the spindle. These teeth determine wheel rpm by generating pulses to the ABS via a sensor bolted to the top of the spindle mount. Lo and behold the 355 has 100 teeth and the 348 has 102. Had I installed the 355 hub straight away I’d be troubleshooting the ABS at a later date, and doubt I would ever find the problem. Who would think the pulse count per revolution would be off. Self inflicted problems are the worst kind to troubleshoot.

I removed the 355 pin with toothed wheel (I'll call it an axle) and replaced it with my original 348 axle. I had to figure out a way to hold the axle while I tightened the nut. I came up with a piece of wood that I bored a hole in the center the same size as the outside diameter of the toothed wheel. I then cut it in half, placed it in a vice, put the axle in the hole and tightened the vice. Worked perfectly. The wood was “crushed” into the teeth holding it tight, and I was able to torque the 36mm nut to the recommended 185 lb. ft. with absolutely no damage to the outside diameter teeth on the axle. Before torquing the nut, I put blue Loctite on the threads. After torquing, I peened the top of the nut into the axle. It should never come loose until the next owner wants to change the bearing.
