Has everyone taken leave of their senses? How can anyone think that a random shot of a beaten up black test mule car is in any way a better representation than the official Red car shots? Can you lot get a grip please. Everyone knows that the 458 went through some late stage styling and aero tweaking. From what we can see on this older black car, there was good reason for doing that. The Red car, showing the official configuration, is much better - so we should all be thankful that the 458 will be a legend when it finally appears in September.

Look you can see all the pics available, reality is you really won't know how good the car looks untill you see it in person. The Enzo went over just fine after people saw it and most people hated the back end in pics. The white tape really distorts the true lines of the car and the dark color hides a lot of things. I'm not worried about this pic at all. I wasn't sure about the Cali either but after seeing it in person it is quite nice except for the J Lo butt.

Because the official red car shots are a computer generation, just look at the way the black car does not fill the rear guards, as said earlier by someone else the track is obviously shown wider in the computer generated red shots.

I hope when we see the car at Frankfurt in the flesh it will look exactly like the red computer generated release shots. :)

Why would the Ferrari factory deliberately seek to deceive customers with unrepresentative shots of their real car showing completely inaccurate styling including major bodywork differences??! If anything, Ferrari's track record is to show less flattering shots in their official releases - just look at the official pics of every recent new V8 Ferrari - 430, 360, 355 etc.

They're not deceiving customers, they are tweaked computer images that show naturally the car in its best situation, I certainly didn't say there were major body differences.

I have never seen or heard of any car manufacturer showing less flattering shots at release - seriously you don't mean that, it is important for the best and most flattering shots to be the first release. My first Ferrari was a new 328 and as I remember it the release shots and the brochure/magazine were most flattering, as has every model release since.

One difference this time is the ability to produce computer generated shots that are so life like they look real, without using actual real photographs for a first website release.

Don't get me wrong I still love the car and will have one when they are delivered here - because of the dynamics, engineering and performance of it, for me frankly before the looks - I just agree with some of the comments here about subtle differences that can be noticed between the release computer generated pics and the real life black car, ultimately I hope they are only very 'subtle' differences.

Realize too, everyone, that lighting and body color and such will alter the way any car looks. This happens with regularity among all prior Ferraris that we're so used to seeing, which is just the point.

Because we are so used to seeing, say, the 360, we don't pay any mind or notice lighting or angle changes insofar as altering how it looks so much. We're over it. We have seen every angle and nuance of that car, have driven one in most cases, and at least have a die cast model of one. It's no surprise anymore whether it's in a dark parking garage or by the ocean in the sun. It's just a F360.

But because this 458 car is new and hasn't ever been seen, it's all hair triggers and panic when the color and lighting are different --as if everything is a lie?! LOL .....Relax!!

Dang it! It's all a lie! Every bit of it! We are all living in the Matrix! Just unplug man! Just unplug! LOL.

I agree. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on t.v. but if I was that uptight, not only would you be able to stick a lump of coal up my azz and have a diamond in two weeks, my friends would entice me to get a medicinal marijuana prescription to chill the hell out. But most of my friends are from California so my reality might be different than others. Either way, like chill guys. LOL :)

That doesn't explain the altered ride height (lower) and track (wider) in the press release "pictures".

Ferrari started this photoshop with the Rossa. They used a mock-up and photoshopped the wheels and interior into the picture and cleaned the rest. With the 599 they also used artificial lighting so every bit is visible, like the seats for instance.
I think now they've gone a step too far with the alterations mentioned.

Ferrari by design or merely convenience has exercised control over the images seen of their new models. Journalists come for a few laps of Fiorano and then a drive near the factory accompanied by a minder; then they can write about their new Ferrari experience. However the photographs used for the article are provided by the factory.

Don't get me wrong, I still love this car and I believe the official real car will look the same as the red one.

One explanation for the front being so high: IF this picture was taken on a slight incline, it is quite plausible that the car rolled back slightly as the hand brake was engaged, this will usually pop up the front end and stay there. Amplifying the 4x4 look is the fact that the car is off pavement and the tires picked up dirt, which highlights the fender - tire gap.

Friend, maybe the car wasn't on level ground, or maybe it really is that high, or as suggested, it was on a jack... but .... why is this an issue?! Factory wheel gap can be removed!! It's done all the time with aftermarket drop springs or coilovers.

I don't understand this thread's hypersensitivity to every shred of tiny visual anomaly. The camo car is black, outdoors, taken with a low rez capture, in bad lighting, and some members expect it to look like the artificially slick dealer brochure pics?

But this is why I liked this pic because it was less-severe looking. It's just straight up, no makeup, it's just the car.

Wait until we see more pics of the car outdoors in different conditions, different lighting, different body color, the whole bit like we see the other Ferraris. This car is too new to have been photographed widely.

If you liked the fancy red factory release/teaser pics you will like the car even more in person. Even a car as bizarrely proportioned as the Mondial looks way better when you actually see one on the road moving towards you. The 458 is way better!

I think the 458 looks fantastic. While the 360 and 430 were pretty cars, I think the 458 is far prettier and more dramatic. None of them are as pretty as my 308 though! ;-)

com'on guys the US versions of the 430 have 4X4 ride height, do really think its gonna be any different for the 458 and if so why ? BUT alas don't worry you can lower it just like at 430 needs to be, it looks better in reality than the artist's impressions

I can't believe how some people here are reacting to this. What's going to happen when they see the US spec side-markers?

The issue is the release pics of the 458 looked incredible, the real pic here makes the car look like any ordinary 360 or 430, you can take a off angled fuzzy pic of many cars and they still look like what the car really is, so saying its a bad angle or fuzzy doesn't hold water.

Ferrari has put out a lot of so so average designs lately then the Cali catastrophe so it may appear they are getting desparate photoshopping a photoshop version of the 458, its like seeing some hot model from Maxim in the flesh with blotchy skin and acne and her boobs are smaller along with celluite on her legs, kind of a let down, makes you feel ripped off or taken as a sucker.

I cannot believe that people are STILL arguing about the ride height when it's been clearly demonstrated that the car has its front end lift engaged. What's wrong with you people?

What do you expect on a chat site? Things get discussed. Especially when it's a new Ferrari. Ride height is one thing, smaller track is another.
