the decision if Michael will race in Felipe's place at Valencia will be known later this week.... apparently the spill on the bike may have fractured a bone and his fitness level is still under question

Michael Schumacher's manager has called a halt to production of memorabilia and merchandise celebrating the return of the seven time world champion to Formula One.

According to Auto Bild, Willi Weber fears a repeat of 1997, when he spent a million Euros on merchandise celebrating Schumacher's first title for Ferrari, when in fact he was pipped at the post by Jacques Villeneuve.

This time, the fear is that while Schumacher intends to fill the injured Felipe Massa's cockpit in Valencia and beyond, there are growing doubts regarding his race fitness. "As long as the return is not one hundred percent for certain, we are producing nothing," said Weber.

It is rumoured that Schumacher may even have fractured a bone when he injured his neck in a motorcycle testing crash in February.

"It was a very bad accident," his spokeswoman Sabine Kehm told Sunday's edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung, "but we are not going to talk about it in public."

It is a believed a decision about the 40-year-old's Valencia return will be made some time this week.

"Only when all the test results are available can we make a decision," said Dr Johannes Peil, of the Bad-Nauheim Sportklinic. "The last word will be Schumacher's.”

The air will deflate big time from the F1 balloon if Michael cancels out.

It'd be such a PR disaster I can't see it being allowed to happen.

I have a feeling that the "Comeback gear" has been made and WW is sending up this smoke screen just so that he can charge a high price for "limited availability" items;)

They're definitely trying to throw a lot of doubt on this whether it be real or not? Is the motorcycle spill he had posted anywhere?

The most likely explanation for all this nonsense is that Schumi's "private testing" (LOL!) has proven that he is not quite as fast as everybody had initially hoped.

Could very well be true. Regardless the neck thing is provided as a convenient out if he needs it. If he bails he better start wearing a neck brace like the fakers do for sympathy and insurance claims. I wonder what F have lined up for back up?

It would be quite silly to start wearing a neck brace now eh? The G-forces put on one's neck by F1 racing are very demanding and being at perhaps 75 or 85% isn't good enough. You have to be in tip-top shape to withstand even 1/2 a season.

I do believe Ferrari should have figured out the true status of his health before announcing this to the world and creating mass hysteria though.
