The door logo is hard to read, but if it says Mr 4 Speed, that is Herb McCandless. Or Ronnie Sox if that is wrong.

    Next? :)

Great cars all around in that picture!

Good to see some old rodders here - long time Englishtown patron dating back to the early 70s.

    Hmmm. Right place, right time.....

Did you ever see Scott Shafiroff's black monster nitrous 67 Camaro run?
That was one of my all time favorite late 70's match racers going.

I remember Shafiroff's cars, but not specifically his Camaro.

My old man was a racer in the 50's / 60's, out at Westhampton. When I was just a child, he'd take me to Englishtown and I was hooked ever since. I have some great pics from the '75 Summer Nationals, which was notable because it was Jungle Jim Liberman's only tour win.

I still recall the slingshot dragsters too - I have a few pics of them as well. My hey day in the sport was the 80's - the emergence of Kenny Bernstein in Funny Car and Joe Amato in Top Fuel. At that time, I was driving, even doing some Friday "Run What Ya Brung" events there.

Fancied acquiring a slingshot with provenance, but I don't have the funds or the space for one. I especially love the work Pat Foster was doing before he passed away. Too many of those cars were left for dead and never to be found...they hold great memories for me and my childhood!

How about a shot of the A/MP Motion Camaro driven by Dennis Ferrari. 1970 1/2 model if I recall and it had the 'ribbon' paint scheme. It ran at the 1970 Division 1 points meet at Niagara Dragstrip. Also present was the dark red 1970 SS/DA Hemi 'Cuda sponsored by the magazine 'Super Stock & Drag Illustrated'.

Hint. There were four fiberglass Chevy II bodies built by Bill Thomas race cars for road racing. They could not be homulgated so the cars were sold. CKC out of San Antonio, Texas bought one of them for $2500 and Dick Harrell helped them find a 427 mystery engine to put in it. It went through all the stages from A/FX, through fuel injection and finally supercharged, altered wheelbase. The driver of it had just gotten out of the service and his dad, who campaigned a B/FD at the time, did not want him in a fuel car so they built the Chevy. I saw it run a number of times. Lots of fun to watch.

Needed a little help but CKC was Buddy Cortiner at the controls with J.E. Kristek and Fritz Callier. Kelly Chadwich was part of the Coke Cavalcade of funny cars in later years driving a maroon and gold Camaro.

What was significant about the altered wheelbase chryco??

I have several four lane track photos somewhere. I will look.

Look in the Texas section for the Old Photos from Green Valley thread. I posted a lot of pictures there. I also started a thread on old twin engine dragsters. You may need to look it up in the archives.

Here are a few for your viewing while I look for the four lane shots......
