serious question. I've been around a lot of car guys over the years and none buy gallardos. Roy would be a good example. no gallardo that i know of. I have met and seen on this forum a lot of non-car guys with a gallardo. In fact everyone i have ever met that has a gallardo ( granted, not many) was not a hard core car guy. Several have been blatant poseurs. That guy that bought one from roy on 10 cc's comes to mind. another guy i met with a G asked me if my diablo was a ferrari. Now before all you g owners have a coronary, i'm not saying NO real car guys buy G's. Just seems to me alot of them aren't. Thought about this after reading the gallardo/prius thread and some of the responses. I know a lot of ferrari owners are not true car guys so lets not go there. What about the G? "Real" exotic that hard core guys buy? I'd like to go on record as saying i wouldn't buy one. Yes, i have driven them.

Maybe we should ask you: what is your definition of a "car guy"?

as all sport cars some are bought from posers..G is not different from most modern exotics

i would say you will see posers on both G, 430, 911....

a G SL or 430 scuderia ? very unlikely posers

a miura or daytona? almost never

a radical? only car guy ;)

I would agree, what is your definition. There are car owners, there are car guys, there are car drivers, and there are owners who think almost all production cars need to be taken apart fixed the right way, and then put back together, and then driven.

hmm, I seem to have come across the opposite.

I don't know tons of owners of either, but the few gallardo owners I've met were big "car guys" in my opinion. The posers I've seen have been 360 or 430 owners that don't have a clue what they are driving. There's probably plenty of both in all these cars though.

I agree too, the less mainstream and older exotics are rarely owned by posers.

I must be a poser: 997GT3RS, 997 Turbo, 997 C2, 356B, 2002i BMW, Lotus Exige S, 59 Bugeye Spirte, SLK 230, oh yes G (2nd one). These are the ones I have now, many cars before gone but, not forgotten.

I own a G and a Murci, love both for entirely different reasons, I owned a Radical before getting rid of the POS and now I own and race a Juno in its place. Does that mean I'm a poser or a car guy, or somehow both? :)

Probably pointless to discus since the original poster is just a trolling ******* trying to stir things up.

A list of why a "real" car guy such as yourself probably does not own one:

    1) At 560 hp, it's way too fast, 0-60 3.9 sec, 201 mph top speed.

    2) It handles so well with all wheel drive nobody will ever give you credit when you out perform them.

    3) drop dead gorgeous looks that could attract females.

    4) Much too reliable so there is no chance to further your image as a car guy.

    5) The noise coming from the engine would drown out your ABBA CD even when cranked.

    6) You don't get invited on runs 'cause it will cause too many people to crowd around wherever you stop.

Who would ever want to own a car like this?

Poser answers like this enforce the negative stereotype of "I am nothing and have nothing so love and respect me for my car". Its sad that some guys act and think this way.

I understand what you are saying wetpet, I know several guys who own Diablo's that would never buy a Gallardo...Nothing bad just personal preference.

Car guys are dying fast. The main topics of Gallardo owners is. How do you operate the blue tooth feature, What kind of roadside assistance package do you have, and how does the navigation system work....These are NOT car guys.

Sounds like you just described a C-Class or 3-Series owner...

I'm a car guy. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Gallardo if I could afford one. Loud, fast, attractive. What more could a 'car guy' want?

wetpet is not a troll, but if you check most car boards these days (including this one), the main topics are more like, how much is it worth, how much with it loose in 2 years, what color should I get, how does the nav or bluetooth work, or how to make the leather smell good, not how do I get the most out of the car, or how to take an apex at 75mph, or should I downshift or use the brake. So how many real car guys are left, and how many own cars like Ferrari's and Lambos, and put 200 miles a year on them. I do not fault anyone for their reasons to own cars like these, to each his own.

i agree, and i do not understand the attack on him.

dollar for dollar , i would buy a BB512i, or carb bb512, or perhaps a Countach 5000s injected 2 valve over a Gallardo. i am sure its a great car, but the new stuff is " too good".

i want to know what states some of you live in that you can actually use the speed and performance of these newer cars and not end up in jail. the old cars you do not have to flog or risk killing people on public roads to get a smile and a great feel for the road. the modern cars are too damn fast, and in the new "Police States" we are now living in, good luck trying to drive a modern exotic hard on public roads.

to me, the Diablo is the last of the visceral Lamborghini's.

A stupid thread like this deserves a stupid response. I guess you did not understand. True car guys drive the cars they like and don't give a rats !@# what others think. Posers are the ones that need to do all this research on what others think. He did seem rather offended when someone asked if his car was a Ferrari, but then again, stuff like that matters to some.

Well..these new cars are so easy to drive that a lot end up in the hands of nightclub posers that will only take the car out to go from a nightclub to a trendy hotel.

But it has nothing to do with the car...The F430/599/997 Turbo/Aston V8 etc also attract this type of crowd.

Wonder where I fit in. Gallardo SL but don't track it (semi poseur?). Diablo SV but only put on 1000 miles/year. I think it is stupid to stereotype any car and its respective owner. Anyway, who cares. If someone wants to have a G and worry about the bluetooth and stereo over the exhaust and engine mods more power to them.

I think the G and Murci are two of the best looking cars on the road. I'm sure others have different opinions but that's why you have so many options. To each his own!!!

I wouldn't exactly call a LP560 a soft car. I have every intention of buying a Gallardo before I buy a Murcie and I'm a hard core car guy.

If you like your car and enjoy it, that is all that matters. It is really quite simple. Leave the bickering and sneering to the crowd that has to constantly judge other people on what they drive and why to feel good about themselves... pathetic really.
