Championship leader Jenson Button has put his Bugatti Veyron road car up for sale. Only 200 Veyrons, boasting an 8 litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine and capable of more than 1000 horse power and 400kph, have been built to date. Button's, painted all black and with just 1500 miles on the odometer, is being offered by a Suffolk dealership for 900,000 pounds (sterling), or nearly $1.5m, according to Auto Trader. The publication said the 29-year-old Briton also drives a Mercedes CLK DTM AMG, a Mercedes C63 AMG, a Ferrari Enzo, an Audi RS6 Avant, a BMW M5, a Smart car, a 1970s 600cc Honda and a VW campervan. The Brawn driver is currently vacationing with his girlfriend in St Tropez. Edit : I had no idea he had an Enzo!
Cool. I believe this is it. http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/advert+search/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-240-4294942638/advert.action?R=200933339665721&distance=202&postcode=fy6+7du&channel=CARS&make=BUGATTI&model=&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=2008&vehicleRegLetter=57 I thought that racing drivers had to drive the same manufacturer as they race, so wouldn't Jenson technically have to drive a Honda? Unless he bought ALL of these just before the season started because it isn't actually Honda anymore, which is very unlikely.
Hmm - Trulli : Toyota iQ or even Starlet / Rosberg : Williams Clio Renault (old stock) / Fisichella : Tato Nano (?) / Webber : bicycle Any additions to this list very welcome
Jenson Button owns an Enzo? Can anyone (NNO) confirm this? He owned a black 360 Modena at one stage too...
IIRC in his rookie season he caused a bit of controversy by buying a Ferrari with one of his first paychecks. Of course Williams doesn't make road cars but of all brands for him to buy....
Anyone 'get-it' yet how utterly useless this car is? Seems that anyone who buys this monster ends up selling it soon after the thrill is gone. Lambos too (ever look at the used Lambo market? Its HUGE).
There is no rule in F-1 that requires this. Frequently the manufacturers will give the driver a car, but there is no "standard" deal on this.
+1. I loved the old bugatti but I just get can't my head round the veyron. Its a pointless exercise to me 'look how much power we can get from an engine'. It claims to be a luxury supercar but it just isn't. It has a bentley esque interior but its very noisy inside. That's not luxury, that's an illusion. It claims it can go round corners, but you can't bend the laws of physics. A car weighing some 600 KG's lighter, with 350 less horses is a much, much more fun car than that. Yes it will go slower, by only 10 mph but the Mclaren is still the car to beat in many ways. 6 speed, looks good, incredibly quick and costs about the same if you can find one for sale. Even if it was only 350K I probably wouldn't buy one if I had the cash. Including all of the above, it's pretty ugly, although I like Jenson's car since its all black and you won't see much of it. Come to think of it. For 350K us I'd have black one, with red/black alcantara race seats and make the thing about 300KGs lighter.
Unless mentioned in contract. I believe Alonso had this as part of his contract. Once asked by Top Gear magazine, he was asked what he'd drive to the south of france given all weekend. His answer was a renault megane (a bit like a Honda civic). Not a chance in hell he'd say that if the car wasn't renault backed, with a lets say Judd engine.
So is the used ferrari market though......both because of the economy, not because of the lost thrills.... But I will agree that the bugatti is essentially a my ***** is bigger then yours kinda car...which is pretty useless....
Yeah, i thought maybe that Drivers would have a contract with their team for example, Kimi had to drive an Abarth Punto in rally Finland, Schumi has a Abarth 500. I know that the Ferrari drivers are given massers to get to the track, like wise for different teams to drivers. Might be wrong but i can't see the BMW drivers being allowed to drive a Merc or Jag. Don't know how accurate that is but thats whats the way it see it. But evidentially that isn't the case.
He probably had to drive Hondas when he was going to races or when someone asked him what he drove, when Honda was still in F1.
Bought so that when someone asks Button where he lives he can say... "in a van...down by the river!" (have to love the old SNL live skit with Chris Farley). Maybe Button's just an old SNL fan?
I love the Veyron bashing. If I had the money, would I buy one? I don't know... I've never even seen one in person. But do I think the car is cool as hell? Oh yeah. I am sure the novelty of sub 3 second 0-60 acceleration would wear off. And I'd really like the opportunity to wear it off. There was a great article in EVO where a couple guys who owned a CGT and an Enzo drove around with the writers in a Veyron and a Zonda. Both the guys went home and ordered Veyrons.
LOL well Ian if I were in that league I'd rather have these.. And of course a Enzo. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
