I'd give my left nut for that Alfa TZ..... saw a black California this morning - thought it looked OK in traffic & I don't even like black cars.
Watched a TZ2 racing in a Tasman sportscar div1 race at the Farm in '68 last night. Great old video. He was just holding off a number of Elans and clubmans making up the numbers behind the stars in the big bangers, Amon, Matich, Neil Allen etc in SR3, P4, Traco Elfin and Repco Elfin. He was lapped after six laps by the big boys but that's no shame with Matich doing 1:29 dead in the SR3 damn close to the circuit record attt.
Congrats, Tristan! Thanks also for posting some fantastic photos from what appears to be an epic trip!
I,m with Pap! kids are great but,I,gee, hard to walk away from the views..........thanks,great pictures and a hell of a nice trip...........thats why I'd like an F40.
Oh,and congrats Tristan...........do you know what the names going to be?? good luck ,enjoy, uncle Trist.
There seems to be a lot of us on here that want an F40, perhaps we should all put some money in and and buy one as a syndicate, just like some do with boats.
Count me in for $100K. We can register the car in the NT and garage the car in Mount Isa if you guys like? We can all share the car and can do all the maintenance/repairs on it.
If it was white, it was probably Max Brunninghausen - that car was a real giant killer, esp in long distance races. In '68 at Warwick Farm, I was probably there - went to almost all the Tasman & sports car meetings(at WF) in the 60's. The little Alfa went really well, considering that in Europe it raced as a "production" car, in Oz it got mixed in with the real sports racers - Lotus 23s & up. Great days of real racing sports cars, not blinged MX5s.
Yes it was Max Brunninghausen. The visiting 'expert' drowned out May's voice as he says the beginning of Brunninghausen but one hears enough to confirm it. He was getting the best out of the little Alfa, very neat driving. There was a 23B running but it seemed in difficulty. The cameras pretty much stuck with the SR3 and P4 as they put on a great show and had most of the Hume straight over Neil Allen in 4 laps. Amon had some problem develop and pulled into the pits and retirement on lap 6 or 7 of the 10 lap race. It wasn't before he and Frank M had put on a real show for the fans though. As I recall those days, the 1:29 Matich set would've put you near abouts the front row of the Tasman open wheel events. Funny how I remember Jack Brabham doing a 1:29 dead for the track record in one I attended but forget numbers from last week. Great sportscar racing indeed. The Tasman annual infusion of cars is badly missed these days. Not to mention the visiting talent we got to see as the NZ and aussie stars came home to race.
Only a $100K Pap? that means we need another 6,7 blokes?,I dunno? Mount Isa a long way to go to drooooooll!! haha........but not a bad idea. While we're at it why not go the whole hog and get that 288GTO over here.Oh dear, the mind boggles. You know what they say? Be careful what u wish for? u,I mean I,will lose some sleep over this, then again, sweet dreams?.
$100K is not out of reach for the average bloke. 6 blokes, 6 shares, 6 ways to share costs in "owning" registered Ferrari F40 sounds good to me. Bah, Mount Isa is only a 6 hr flight away for you Mexicans! Ferraris LOVE the open road!!!! I can vouch for that!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Last time I saw an F40 up close was Grand Prix weekend at Albert Park last year and couldn't stop thinkin about it WOW!
Yeah yeah! The BEST roads are the ones heading out of town! Well, for the first 100 km or so anyways. The roads in town are ****ed. Saw an immaculate example in San Deigo 2 years ago. Gave me an instant horn and made me realise that guys who actually own and drive these cars are very lucky to get to experience an F40...........at least once in their lives!!! Last time I saw one up close there was no one around and it was parked all by itself at a race track! <enter snappy joke> Interesting car visually. One I could look at for a long time before thinking what driving would be like. Sort of sucked you in like a good painting with your eye going from one detail to the next throwing up thoughts and feelings you wouldn't expect.
At least they do have "AIRCON" if not much else, door handles etc........a hint of sarcasm perhaps from someone who may know them better that it seems?,hmmm......
