Anyone have any info on these 348's

They are both Serie Speciale variants. Anyone know anything about their history? Also what do you think about the pricing?

Before you get too excited about the Serie Speciale, have you ever sat in one with the SS seats? Personally, I found them VERY uncomfortable, bad enough that I wouldn't want one so equipped. I'm sure some people don't have that issue, but I'd sure try it before buying it.

 

i havent sat in the serie speciale (F40) seats, but they look amazing, so even if they are somewhat uncomfortable i will put up with it. not to mention i hate when seats dont hold you in well during spirited driving, especially leather seats. but i appreciate the heads up.

 

In my opinion, those prices are a little high - and when I say "a little", I am being nice. Those prices may have been valid 12-24 months ago, and may very well be valid 12-24 months from now, but at this point in time those prices are off. In the last 8 months or so the prices of 348's came crashing down to earth (as well as other Ferrari models).

As a current 348 owner, believe me when I tell you that I wish that these prices are current market value, but unfortunately they are not.

By the way, I am lucky in that I have a Speciale but I do not have the Kevlar uncomfortable seats, I have the regular seats.

 

Well, I have the seats in my car. Driving in the twisties for <1.5 hours they are a pure delight because they keep you in place no matter what. You actually use the steering wheel to steer, not to hold yourself in your seat.

Just cruising on the freeway they can be a little uncomfortable because they provide little to no lumbar support (nothing that a little towel can't fix though).

If you are wider than 36inches you will not fit.

I have the CF sport seats in mine, and they are in perfect character with the car. As far as comfort goes, i have driven my car from Phoenix to Northern NV for the VA City Hillclimb on multiple occasions, and lived to tell about it, as well as many other long trips over the years! If the seats bother your back, you can 1 of 2 things..... roll up a t-shirt and put it in your lumbar region or have the lumbar region built up by an upholstery shop, and then the seats are fine.

As for values, I think they are just fine. Good cars are hard to come by, and should bring a premium. However, there are numerous low ballers in the 348 market, as well as apparently desperate owners with a chicken little mind set. It is more than time that 348 owners stop acting like the red headed step child of the Ferrari world, and realize they have a great car, and not give them away when they sell them.

 

I totally agree. I believe they are worth every penny as the two listed in this thread (I paid $59,800 for mine in Oct 2008), but the market and the current low-ball sellers now have brought the value down a bit. Perhaps one day they will reclaim their value.

 

All I know about these cars in particular is that they both have been for sale for a very long time. The Auto Palace car I estimate has been for sale for well over a year. I also recall that it has been discussed previously and IIRC, the reason it has been for sale for so long is that the owner refuses to budge on the price, which is high to begin with.
I notice also that the TB has the wheels on the wrong way, which, depending on who you talk to, is either no big deal or it indicates an uncaring owner. Otherwise, I think both look really great and would be interested in the red/tan car if price were maybe 10-15K less.

lol thats exactly what i was thinking. But ive always liked the 348. Given that it appears to be a well taken care of 348, with fairly low mileage and it is a serie speciale, what do you think is a fair price to offer the dealer?

 

The seats are only uncomfortable for those that are, um, anatomically challenged. Any buttside wider than 19 inches will stress fracture the bolsters. Careless entry and exit of the car will also stress fracture the sides. Still, I wouldn't trade mine out for anything. They are the heart of the SS specification. As for those listed cars, very nice and pretty, but completely out of touch in pricing. A 1995 355 GTB is a better purchase for that money.

I paid $65,000 for my 348TB SS #93 in November 2001. I am the third owner. The car is nearly perfect. It had 9K miles when I bought it. I love my Kevlar seats. It takes a little practice getting in an out. You have to lift your butt up and over the side of the seat. Once in in, it is like a glove. I do admit, that I would be tempted to purchase a 355 at those prices, but you may have to look a long time to find a good clean 355.

 

The MCCarty car has been for sale for over a year. First price was $69K.

 

Comparing a 348SS to a 355 is comparing apples and oranges. The 348 is the last of the Ferrari's that really required driving skills to master the car. As good as the 355 is, with power steering, etc., it is a different type of car... for a different type of buyer.

The 348 rewards a good driver, and punishes a ham fisted one. The 355 is extremely easy to drive fast, and will forgive most drivers. While the styling is similar, it is different enough to garner its own fans, as does the 355. Take your pick, but they are very different cars.

I think you need a lot more information. Maintenance records, recent service, ownership history, etc. The Answer could be between $30K and $60K.

 

This is an impossible question to answer without seeing it. You need to see the condition of the car, interior and exterior, the service history, when the next major is due...too many factors. Once you have all of that info then you can determine what to offer.

 

The McCarty car was offered at 70k first offer to me when I looked at it over a year ago, but the seller had several offers, and I needed to jump on it if I wanted it... It sat in their little showroom til a couple of weeks ago. (I lived 3 miles from the place til last week) Anyone on here purchase it?

+1 I love my seats they hold you tighter than hungry python and for long trips I do use a towel lol. But the absolute best thing is that I can only take skinny women for rides the healthy sized girls won't fit ha ha ha ha ha

 

If you're looking for a nice 348ss, then I highly suggest you look at Matt's (MBferrari). It's the nicest 348 i've ever seen!!! Detailed to near perfection and mechanicals are smooth as butter.
