I agree with these, in spirit. Sometimes I read the "what color stitching should I get" threads and wonder if this site has become Cosmo for Car Guys. Also, much as I like sat nav, Bluetooth, power seats, etc., in a luxury coupe like a Merc or Audi, I think modern cars have gotten too 'soft' (Ferrari and Lambo included). But maybe that's because modern drivers have gotten too soft.

I don't own a Lotus, but I think the Elise and Exige are the baseline 'car guy car' of the decade. They're essentially zero b.s. cars equipped with only the tools you need to carve corners and keep you alive while doing it. To some extent, everything else has a little bit of bling or badge going on.

Yeah those Diablos fall apart on the track.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM3EL2tWm-8&NR=1

In spite of that footage trackability is not the Diablo's strong point, but the guys having trouble probably don't know their cars. If you don't know anything about a cars workings your not a car guy. Tracking has nothing to do with it.

Not true at all, why would I force anyone to unsubscribe? I would force a ban upon someone, but force money out of my pocket?

A car guy, at least in my description is someone who doesn't decide, based on brand, whether another guy is a "car guy" or not.

Every guy who shows up Saturdays for cars and coffee is a car guy in my book, in that they have a real interest in cars, and want to hang with other car guys.

We spent more time last week talking about a mustang that showed up than we did about the scud. Probably because we hadn't seen the mustang before.

Car snobs decide you're in or out based on what you're behind the wheel of. You can't be a car guy if you don't own a car? Or you can't be a car guy because you drive a gallardo?

I've met car guys driving pintos, caddys, bmws, a mini cooper, a motorcycle, various Ferraris and Porsches, and SHOCKINGLY a Gallardo.

Ed, the car doesn't make a car guy. The attitude does. Sure some jerks buy Gallardos, don't know what they're doing with it, but what the hell, there are more non-car guys than car guys in the world, some are bound to be able to afford a lambo, right?

I do know that if Ferrari and Lamborghini were building their current cars as spartan as the bb512, GTO, Countach and Miura... Well not many
    people would be buying them.

I'm with you on this; I've had my G for three years and have driven it at Sebring several times, the most recent I pushed it a bit too hard and melted the brake pads onto the rotors; I'm hoping to get it back next weekend with my new girodisc rotors and Pagid pads to see how they hold up. But anyway, I just added a Murci to the garage a few months ago and I love the car but have absolutely no desire to track it, the car is huge and handles nothing like the G, to the point that it would be scary driving it at the level I drive the G at on track.

There are posers for all car models, from Murci's and Diablo's down to $1500 Hondas with massive wings on the back.

Actually if I could afford a G I would own one, but hey we are not all rich guys, but hey if you wanna buy me one to make me a so called car guy your welcome to and I would luv to take it and park it it right next to my Vette. Just because I only own a Vette and a couple of other cars does not mean I'm not a car guy. I happen to love many other cars including many exotics.

No, after 5 years of 360F1 ownership, out of frustration went for a 6sp G. Two years later thought things had improved and went for an 06 Egear. Wasn't the case, just as bad. Thank God for the GTR. (at least for us Drivers who don't smoke cigars.)

you guys are so full of ****. That email was sent the day you banned me about the thread were the guy said he was quitting f-chat. that was in the beginning of the year. it was obviously a joke and you did nothing with it. i never sent it again. you decided many months later to de-subscribe me because of a post i made in "how can we make f-chat better". Typical high school crap that goes on with you and your mods. Say, like this thread jack. Force money out of your pocket? oh, yeah i'm sure you were real broken up to give me back 8 dollars. you can post whatever you want, i know what happened. Anyway, back to the thread.

gotta disagree. seen many late model ferraris and lambos on the track that aren't driven by car guys. Also doesn't matter that your modern G could beat my 12 yo diablo. i'm sure there are some miatas out there that could beat your G. Your G could beat a muira around the track too. so what? This thread isn't about what a car guy is, i'm sure everyone's definition differs slightly. It's about whether car guys by G's. In my experience, few do. that's why i'm asking other people if they have had the same experience. If i implied that NO car guys own gallardos, i apologize. Of course i know some do. just haven't met any.

if you think all the early cars are about posing, i think most would disagree with you. probably one of the silliest statements i've ever seen posted on ferrarichat. and i would know.:)

but what do you have to add to the discussion except that you consider yourself a car guy and you would buy a gallardo if you could afford it? Do you know any gallardo owners? are they car guys? that's what i'm interested in.

As a matter of fact if you look back thru the posts I stated that I have a friend from on here that owns a G and is a car guy. So that was als a contribution to this threa, so there really isn't any need to be like that toward me, as far as I know this is a free open chat.

the email says what it says, does it look like a joke to everyone? proof about your intent is why didn’t you resubscribe, you could have resubscribed since the day I gave your refund but you haven’t. I hope you don’t resubscribe, because your moods and flip flopping seem to correlate with your med regulation and whatever bender you are on. I actually get stuck with the fee for a prorated refund, don't go away mad, just go away.

Ed. I actually see what you are saying, but I would put it this way. IMHO, there are 2 types of exotic owners... Those who make a ton of money and can afford any car they desire in the range of 100-300k, and those who who strech to afford the exotic they have always dreamed of. I am of the latter variety, but I digress...
There are those who have the $$$$ to buy an exotic and might be attracted to a car like the Gallardo and it could be the only car they own aside from there DD. They buy it for the neighbors and their friends. The other group make things work so that they can afford the exotic they have always dreamed of. These people typically buy the Ferrari or Countach (maybe even a Diablo) that they have alway lusted for. 5555
If there were a third group, which I suspect there is, these are REAL car guys who have the $$$$ to buy what ever they want and a Gallardo is one of many exotics they own. I know I am a real car guy. I own my dream car (F355) and I know that if I had the means to have a multiple exotic stable, a Gallardo would be a car that I would own. And you know what color it would be... :)
